Kyoto in Half a Day: Fushimi Inari Taisha & Kiyomizu-dera

    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:00 Meet at Citadines Karasuma Gojo Kyoto
    • 10:25-11:30 Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine
    • 11:50-12:20 Gion Hanamikoji ~ Yasui Konpiragu Shrine

    • 12:55-13:55 Kiyomizu-dera Temple
    • 14:00 Disband in front of Kiyomizu-dera Temple

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera The guests were visitors from Europe. It was cloudy, but there was no rain at all, and it was not too hot, so the weather was pleasant and comfortable. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, the guests purchased a torii-shaped ema to use as a Christmas tree ornament. At the Senbon Torii, the timing was good and there were few other tourists around, so they were able to take many photos and were delighted. We followed the classic route from Gion through Yasaka Pagoda and Sannenzaka to Kiyomizu-dera, and they took many photos and thoroughly enjoyed it. At a newly opened antique shop on Sannenzaka, they purchased a semi-Japanese-style plate. The guests were also collecting shrine and temple seals (goshuin), and today they were pleased to collect them at three places, including Yasui Konpiragu. I believe they were very satisfied.

What Can You See on a Private History-Focused Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, visiting Japan for the first time. One of the guests had a strong interest in Japanese history and had a request to see places related to the Meiji Restoration for academic research. To begin, I guided the guests to the Fukagawa Edo Museum so they could learn about life in the Edo period. After that, we visited Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa as requested. We then traveled from Asakusa to Shibuya to see the famous Scramble Crossing. Following that, we paid a visit to Meiji Jingu Shrine. The guests were very satisfied to be able to learn about Japanese history, and I believe they truly enjoyed the tour.

Title: What Is a Private Kyoto Family Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera and Cool Kyoto The guests were on their first overseas trip together, and it was clear how much they valued spending this time as a group. At the Otowa Waterfall at Kiyomizu-dera, it was heartwarming to see them share the three blessings among themselves, with each person choosing one of the streams — one for love, one for wisdom, and one for longevity. I had been asked to show the guests "Cool Kyoto," and although I could not be entirely sure whether I had succeeded, I felt somewhat relieved when I was told at the end that one of the guests had really enjoyed it. Since the guests were heading to Osaka the following day, I used the materials I had on hand to introduce Dotonbori, Kuromon Market, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu, and takoyaki. The guests took photos of everything on their smartphone.

What Is a Private Hakone Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report For reasons I am not entirely sure of, both the guests and the hotel staff seemed to think I was serving as both driver and guide. The guests were checking out of the hotel that day, which created the question of where to store their suitcases and other luggage during the trip. However, I learned that the hotel offered a service to deliver luggage to Hakone-Yumoto Station, so I had the guests use that service. I felt somewhat sorry that it involved an additional cost, but since the guests were heading to Tokyo afterward, it actually turned out to be more convenient for their travels. There were clouds over Mount Fuji, so there were few moments when it was visible, but the weather was generally good, and I believe the guests were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery at Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine. I heard that they wished to board the Shinkansen from Odawara Station, so I took them to the Shinkansen platform at Odawara Station before we parted ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Can You Do a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Covering Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shinjuku Gyoen? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group of three visiting from North America. They arrived in Japan and were on a trip of about two weeks, planning to visit Kyoto and other places after Tokyo. One member of the group planned to remain in Japan afterward to study at a Japanese language school. For this tour, there was no reply from the guests until just before the day. The first list of places they wished to visit arrived on the morning of the day before the tour. However, since it was a list of ten locations, including places that required reservations, I explained that we would not be able to go to places requiring reservations on such short notice, and that we could only cover three or four locations. The final, feasible list of places to visit was then sent after 6:00 p.m. the day before. After meeting the guests on the morning of the tour, I confirmed that lunch was not needed and that there was no need to return to the Hotel at the end of the tour, and we set off. I guided them around Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, and Shinjuku Gyoen. At the start, Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku had been set as the final stop and the place to part ways, but since they did some shopping along the way, which took time, and because we walked in hot and humid weather, the guests appeared to be tired. When we discussed it at Shinjuku Gyoen, which was the stop before the final destination, they decided to return to the Hotel. I explained how to get back to the Hotel, and we parted ways at Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station.

What Is a Private Kyoto Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Asia who had spent many years living abroad before more recently returning to Asia. They had studied Japanese culture and history well and already understood most of the basics, so what they needed were short, pointed, and concise additional explanations. Even so, June is the time of the summer purification ritual (Nagoshi no Harae) at various shrines, and the grounds were decorated with chinowa (grass rings). This was something they did not have prior knowledge of, and they listened with great interest to my lengthy explanation. For tonight, they had reserved Kobe beef at a Gion restaurant that I recommended. I hope they enjoy it.

Hello, this is Kazu Akiyama, your tour guide. Nice to meet you and welcome to Japan. Thank you for joining me on the tour. Now I am a retired salaried worker, living in Osaka. What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Japan the day before and had no fixed itinerary, so I proposed a route covering Meiji Jingu, Takeshita Street, the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and the Tsukiji Outer Market. Since the guests wanted to buy a SUICA card, I guided them to the Eki Tabi Concierge Shinjuku Shinminami at the south exit of Shinjuku Station, where sales of the SUICA card have resumed on a limited basis for short-term overseas travelers. As the guests planned to move to Fujikawaguchiko after staying in Tokyo for a few days, I also showed them the adjacent bus terminal, "Busta Shinjuku." Although it was a hot and humid day from the morning, the guests responded with smiles throughout, even to my English dad jokes. Since one of the guests was a big fan of Hokusai, I recommended the Sumida Hokusai Museum, which I have visited many times privately. The guests said they would add it to their itinerary for the next day.

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like on a Tight Schedule? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. After Kyoto, they were planning to take part in a half marathon in Tsumago. Their main purpose in coming to Japan was to run the marathon, with sightseeing added on. Since they wished to cover the above sightseeing spots in a single day, I kept each stop short and, as scheduled, dropped them off in Higashiyama at 15:00. For lunch, I chose a Yoshinoya where they could be served quickly. With the cooperation of the driver, I believe the guests were satisfied with the tour.

I am an experienced guide, who live in Osaka. I have been a Government-Licensed Guide in English since 2018. I have already guided a lot of tourists overseas in Kansai Area, that is, in the vicinity of my prefecture, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji. I am especially good at guiding in Kansai Area with sufficient knowledge of history, culture and transportation. I have guided people ranging from a small group of one or two to a group of 20-50 people in a big bus, that is, a coach. I like delicious food, because Osaka is a city of Kuidaorre, which means that people in Osaka love to eat and never spend too much money on food. Therefore, as an Osakan, I will do my best to explore restaurants which serve most delicious foods in wherever I take to my guests.

Title: What Is a Private Food and Shopping Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan. Although we were unable to make contact until the day before and there was some concern, we finally connected through a messaging app and were able to meet successfully. No itinerary had been decided, but they said they would leave everything entirely to the guide, so we started that way. At Doguyasuji, one of the guests was very taken with the various food samples said to be purchased by food-and-beverage professionals, and bought some as souvenirs. At Kuromon Market, they tasted "black bean tea," "dried fruit," "takoyaki," and "fruit" at shops recommended by the guide, and purchased some as souvenirs as well. In Dotonbori, they also enjoyed soft-serve ice cream presented by a Turkish performer. At the last stop, a specialty shop for Pokémon and One Piece character goods inside a department store, one of the guests was very interested and bought a large amount of souvenirs. They also purchased sweet buns for a light meal at the Hotel at a department store basement bakery, again recommended by the guide. We saw them off at the Hotel, where we parted ways. As a result, this became a food-tasting and shopping tour, but I believe they were reasonably satisfied. The guests, as well as the group, were fond of Japan, which I found gratifying. Note: As reported separately, this time we were unable to contact the guests until the day before, and the phone number on the confirmation sheet belonged to a third party, which caused considerable confusion. The meeting was listed on the confirmation sheet as 15:00 at the Hotel, but the day before the guests requested a 12:00 pickup at Osaka Station. I informed them that I had another commitment in the morning and that this was not possible, and after confirming, we returned to the original place and time and were able to start without trouble. There have been more than one or two occasions when we could not reach the guests until the last minute and, upon checking on the day, found that the agent had provided no information at all. I sincerely hope this can somehow be improved.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.
    Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu!

A Private One-Day Tokyo Tour: A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a group visiting from North America. They arrived in Tokyo the previous afternoon and checked into their hotel in the evening. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, the group thoroughly enjoyed sampling fatty tuna, Kobe beef, grilled eel, and strawberry sweets to the point where I wondered if it was too much. Upon arriving at Asakusa, the sunlight was very strong, and partly due to jet lag, one of the guests began to show signs of heat exhaustion, so we cut Asakusa short and moved to Shibuya. We rested for about an hour in the Shibuya Scramble Square building. During that time, I helped find a portable fan at a store, and the guests purchased one. It was a shame that it was hazy at Shibuya Sky, perhaps due to the high temperature, but the group seemed pleased (photo). The guest recovered after getting some goods at the Pokémon Center, and the group managed to walk through Meiji Shrine as well.

Hello! My name is Hideki Maruyama. I was born in Osaka and raised in the Greater Tokyo area. I obtained my National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter Certificate in February 2016.
I spent 23 years working at a leading Japanese automotive company, including 7 years posted overseas. I then worked for a German premium automotive manufacturer for 13 years, followed by 6 years as an advisor to a British energy company. Through these roles at global corporations, I developed and refined key skills such as:
    1. Cross-cultural communication
    2. A deep understanding of business elites and affluent customers
    3. The ability to deliver impactful and impressive presentations in English
In addition to my regular duties, I often served as an interpreter for top executives during meetings with foreign government officials. I also had opportunities to introduce aspects of Japan—such as our national character and consumer preferences—to leadership teams in both the German and British companies.
As a tour guide, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding guests from a wide range of countries especially after the pandemic, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Turkey, Jordan, Kenya and Israel.
When guiding, I always keep in mind to go beyond what guests can find on social media or ChatGPT. I believe my professional background allows me to offer unique insights, and I am encouraged when guests mention this in their reviews
