    • 2. 9:00 Imperial Palace East Gardens
    • 3. 10:30 Meiji Shrine
    • 4. 11:30 Takeshita Street

    • 6. 13:00 Lunch at Asakusa Udon Sato Yosuke
    • 7. 13:45 Asakusa Sensoji Temple and Nakamise
    • 8. 14:30 Disband at Asakusa Station

Under the extreme summer heat, I tried to walk underground as much as possible while moving around. At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, we entered through the Hirakawa Gate and exited through the Otemon Gate to avoid retracing our steps within the gardens under the scorching heat. At Meiji Shrine, we could pay our respects in the shade of the trees, which is always helpful. Even so, we escaped the heat at an air-conditioned souvenir shop. After exploring the subculture on Takeshita Street, we passed briefly through Omotesando and ducked into the subway. As it was a Sunday, we could observe the lively crowds at the Shibuya crossing very well. After a short break aboard the Ginza Line train, the guests decided that cold udon would be better than hot ramen for lunch, so we waited in a short line but managed to get seats at a long-established udon restaurant. After enjoying Senso-ji Temple and the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa, I gave directions on how to return to the Hotel, and we parted ways.

Born and raised in Tokyo a half-century ago, I have lived in Tokyo all my life except for one year in the UK to study for a master’s course. I am a Tokyo Native with viewpoints based on broader local knowledge than anyone else. I have specialised in Japanese history, culture, and architecture since I was an architect.
Also, I am a foodie emphasising Japanese traditional & healthy foods. I’ve been to many countries around the world, such as the US, Central America, Europe, and Asia. As such, I believe I can anticipate the needs of foreign tourists in Japan.

Despite my experience as a guide for just two years, we can make the best out of our tour by travelling from your hotel to spots time-efficiently with my local knowledge, while accommodating your unexpected requests during the tour.
My strong area includes Yanesen; Old Temples in a Quaint Village, Kamakura, Asakusa Sensoji, Meiji Shrine and Imperial Palace. All give you peace of mind.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They mentioned that they would be working remotely in Japan at night, so they were able to travel around Japan for about a month. Because there had been an earthquake, they asked for my opinion about visiting the Oboke and Koboke gorges in Shikoku. After explaining the terrain and transportation options, I told them that it would probably be fine, but that if they felt strong anxiety, it would be better not to go. Some of the guests had been looking forward to visiting the peace memorial museum, while others were looking forward to visiting Miyajima, and they said, "We were glad we could hear thorough explanations of both." They seemed very pleased with the origami paper crane I gave them as a keepsake.

What Is a Private Day Tour of Koyasan from Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was scheduled to start at Koyasan at 13:00, but the guests wished to travel together from Osaka. With an additional guide fee, I accompanied the guests from Osaka. We were supposed to take the 10:00 limited express train, but due to a fatality accident that occurred at 8:15, the train schedule was significantly disrupted. I explained the situation to the guests step by step, and following the recommendation of the station staff that it would be best to take that train despite a delay of about 30 minutes, we did so. After that, the tour proceeded smoothly, and the guests were very delighted, saying what a wonderful place it was. Since the guests said they would rather stroll leisurely around the nearby area than rush from place to place, they decided to visit Okunoin on their own the following day, and I guided them around the Danjo Garan and Kongobuji Temple. The guests were very happy to be able to actually hear the Koya Shiro bell. At the lunch spot, the guests did some star fortune-telling, and although I struggled to translate the content into English, I was glad they enjoyed it so much.

Hi! My name is YUKA. I’ve got the government license in 2018 and joined a half year traning to do the guide. But a half year later I started my carreer, Covid came. I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Thank you for coming to Japan! Let’s enjoy Japan together!

What Is a Private Day Trip to Horyu-ji Temple and Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Since Horyu-ji Temple is very spacious, simply walking around worked up quite a sweat. The guests really appreciated the air conditioning in the Treasure Museum. They seemed to know very little about Prince Shotoku. Perhaps due to the heat, the usual souvenir shops on the way to the Yumedono Hall were not open. The round-trip bus from JR Horyu-ji Station was nearly full, with about half of the passengers being foreign visitors. Since we arrived in Nara after 3:00 in the afternoon, many of the deer were resting in the shade. On Sunday, access to Kasuga Taisha Shrine was severely congested and took a long time. The road is narrow, and there is only one entrance to the parking area, so even the route buses had to line up behind ordinary vehicles, making it slow just to get in and out of the parking area. It would be helpful if the entrance and exit could be separated. After arriving at Nara Station and finishing the tour, the guests all headed off to dinner together. The photo was taken at Kasuga Taisha Shrine.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

Title: What Is a Private Osaka Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Shitenno-ji Temple The guests were a group visiting from Asia. Because their train from Kyoto was delayed, the tour started about 30 minutes later than planned. At Osaka Castle, although it was hot and humid, an occasional breeze made it pleasant. At Shitenno-ji Temple, the guests were able to take part in the Obon ceremony "Manto Kuyo Ho-yo," in which 10,000 candles are lit within the temple grounds where the five-story pagoda stands, and monks chant the Heart Sutra as they walk in procession. This ceremony has a long history dating back to the Heian period, but since it takes place after 5:00 p.m., it is usually difficult to join on a standard tour, so the timing this time was truly fortunate, and the guests were very moved. Meanwhile, some of the guests took a liking to "kakigori" (shaved ice), which became the only Japanese word they learned.

What Is a Private One-Day Osaka Tour Like from a Cruise Ship? A Licensed Guide's Report Perhaps because the season had progressed a little, today did not have the intense heat of late July to early August. The guests had been staying in Japan since the previous week, arriving by cruise ship, and mentioned that today was comfortable. Since Osaka Castle is always crowded, I picked up the guests at 8:00 at Osaka Port and we arrived at Osaka Castle around 8:40, but there was already a long line at the ticket office, and we waited about 25 minutes to buy tickets. The guests did not seem to mind waiting, which I was glad about. They took photos of popular spots in Osaka and enjoyed sampling food while strolling through Kuromon Market, and I believe they had an enjoyable time in Osaka.

Title: What's a Private Car Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Akihabara, and the Imperial Palace I had also visited this hotel last month, and this time as well I suggested meeting on the first floor rather than in the lobby. This tour included a vehicle, and since some of the guests were staying at a different hotel, I believe this was the right decision. Because we spent more time than expected at Tsukiji at the start, in Asakusa I limited the guiding mainly to Nakamise Street. The udon restaurant the guests requested for lunch in Akihabara was a casual place, and since they did not do much shopping in Akihabara, we had quite a bit of extra time in the latter half. I asked the driver to take us around the Imperial Palace by car on the way back to the hotel, and at the driver's suggestion we were also able to stop by Tokyo Tower along the way. I believe the guests were able to enjoy a variety of experiences within the limited time available.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Title: What Is a Slow-Paced Private Walking Tour in Japan Like for Cruise Ship Passengers? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests moved at a slow pace throughout the tour. One of the guests appeared to have a strong interest in photography, and while the equipment and approach seemed like those of a guide, I felt the skill was at a professional level. Rather than being drawn to the interest of each spot, the main purpose seemed to be photography. During the tour, they kindly explained photography techniques in detail. Because they were taking photos everywhere along the way, I nearly lost sight of them two or three times. Meanwhile, the guests purchased a large amount of medicine and cosmetics at a drugstore. Before meeting, I tried to reach them several times via a messaging app but could not get through. They were using a cruise ship, and they mentioned that the internet connection on board was extremely poor and did not work at all. They seemed concerned about the time to return to the ship, so we parted ways about 30 minutes earlier than planned.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.

    Tour Itinerary

    • 09:00 Met at the lobby of the Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Soumya and Damen, who had arrived in Japan the previous day from New Delhi, India. They will visit Tokyo and Kyoto over 10 days. They said that for the four days following the guided day they would explore Tokyo on their own, so while providing helpful information for that, I guided them along the route we had decided upon based on prior contact. The order was Shinjuku Gyoen → Meiji Shrine → Imperial Palace → Sensoji Temple.
    • 09:25-10:30 Guided them through Shinjuku Gyoen. After finishing, we walked out through the Shinjuku Gate and moved from Shinjuku-sanchome Station to Meiji-jingumae.
    • 10:50-11:50 Guided them through Meiji Shrine. When we finished, it had gotten quite hot and they said "We're getting a little hungry," so we decided to save the Imperial Palace for later and head to Asakusa.
    • 12:50-13:55 When we arrived in Asakusa, I asked "Would you like to go to a restaurant first?" and they said "First please show us the temple, then let's go to a restaurant," so I first guided them through Sensoji Temple.
    • 13:45-14:30 I guided them through Kannon-dori, and when I asked what kind of restaurant they wanted to go to, they answered "Ramen," so we had lunch with ramen at Tanaka Soba shop. After finishing, we moved to Nijubashimae.
    • 15:00-15:35 Guided them through the Imperial Palace Plaza and Nijubashi.
    • 15:40-16:00 We moved from Nijubashimae Station to Shinjuku Station, and parted ways at the West Exit.

What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report When I met the guests, I asked whether they were used to the heat, since they live in Asia, and they said they would be fine. However, the extreme heat in Japan over the past two summers has reached a different level, so to prevent heatstroke I made sure we drank plenty of water and took breaks sitting on benches from time to time. As a result, even though the time difference was only three and a half hours, when I was guiding under the blazing sun at the Imperial Palace at the end, one of the guests seemed a little tired. So I kept our time in front of the Imperial Palace short, and when I asked, they commented, "In our city we spend all our time in air-conditioned places, so this heat is honestly quite tough." As a guide, I feel it is better to worry perhaps a little too much to make sure no one gets heatstroke. As for lunch, guests from that region are very likely to want to visit an Indian restaurant, but this time the guests were unusual, saying, "While we're in Japan we won't go to Indian restaurants, because we love Japanese food." So we walked along Kannon-dori while I introduced a few restaurants, and then they said, "Today I'd like ramen." We went into a ramen shop, which turned out to be the right choice, as they were very happy and said it was delicious. Overall, they thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

I acquired national guide license in 2014, and I have been doing guide work full fledged since 2016. In my career before starting guide work, I was a business man and made more than 1,000 business trips both abroad and in Japan, and that experience is my foundation as a guide because I came to know so many places both abroad and in Japan. I have been taking care of both group and individual tourists, and the number of foreign guests I have taken care is close to 2,500 so far. I am based in Tokyo, but I can cover guide work in many prefectures throughout Japan. When I take care of foreign guests, my major concern is to listen attentively to them, find out what they want to know and do in Japan, and give them appropriate guiding in accordance with what I heard from my guests. I would like to provide tailor made tour as much as possible for every precious guest who kindly chose Japan as the tour destination.

What Is a Private Tokyo Family Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa The guests were a group visiting from North America. They were very close-knit and well-mannered. Whenever I was giving explanations, the group encouraged the younger members to listen carefully, and they came across as cultured and thoughtful. At a restaurant in Asakusa, the group enjoyed monjayaki and okonomiyaki. One of the guests had visited Japan several times before but was delighted, saying they had never tasted anything so delicious. The rest of the group also seemed to enjoy it very much. I gave them a folding fan and a Japanese tenugui cloth as souvenirs, and when I bought them some dango and yukimi daifuku as well, they ate them looking very pleased. Overall, I believe the guests were very satisfied.
