Osaka in Half a Day: Shitennoji & Dotonbori

    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:00 Meet @ W Osaka
    • 10:30 @ Shitennoji
    • 11:30 @ Shinsekai (including light meal)

    • 14:00 Disband @ Dotonbori

What Can You See on a Private Osaka Walking Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shitennoji, Shinsekai, and Dotonbori The guests were a small group visiting Osaka. Although we encountered very heavy rain at Shitennoji and Shinsekai, we were able to move around almost smoothly. The guests were very interested in each spot and toured them enthusiastically, eagerly taking photos and videos. Today happened to be the memorial day of Prince Shotoku, the founder of Shitennoji, so admission was free. Near the nearest station, the guests enjoyed some "taiyaki." At Shinsekai, feeling a little hungry, they had a light meal of the local specialties "kushikatsu" and "akashiyaki," and seemed very satisfied. After that, at Doguyasuji they purchased various tableware as souvenirs. In Dotonbori, they also enjoyed the popular soft-serve ice cream and took commemorative photos together with the staff. Since they wanted to explore Dotonbori a bit more on their own, we parted ways there. The guests were also very pleased with the "Ise katagami" (Ise stencil paper) that I presented as a gift.

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.
    Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu!

Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Japan Guide Agency The guests were visitors from North America. The itinerary was as follows: Hotel → Fushimi Inari → Sanjusangendo → Nijo Castle → lunch (a restaurant) → Kinkaku-ji → Shimogamo Shrine → Hotel. The guests kept a fast pace when walking and sightseeing, so in the end we finished with more than 40 minutes to spare, but since they mentioned that they were still tired from the previous day (Monkey Park and the bamboo grove in Arashiyama), we ended a little early. There were no particularly striking moments at each sightseeing spot, but along the way we enjoyed a wide range of topics of conversation. For example, we talked about comparisons between different regions, views on life among younger generations, careers and having children, supply and demand in the labor market of a certain industry, working in the office versus working from home, Elon Musk, the situation surrounding electric vehicles, the presidential election, and their child who is a university student. The conversation mostly consisted of the guide asking questions and the guests answering, but they shared a great deal with me. For lunch, at their request for yakiniku, we went to a grilled meat restaurant, and they were very satisfied.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Sightseeing Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private Hiroshima sightseeing tour for guests visiting from Oceania. The weather was cloudy due to a typhoon, with occasional light rain, but compared to the recent extremely hot days it was very comfortable. The guests said they often come to Japan in connection with work, and today they were enjoying sightseeing in Hiroshima during a break in their schedule. As the guests got along very well, I arranged plenty of free time so that they could enjoy time on their own. Both of the guests finished their okonomiyaki at lunch, and told me it was even more delicious than the one they had eaten in Osaka. It made me as happy as if the Hiroshima Carp had beaten the Hanshin Tigers.

Originally, I’m a cycling guide doing cycling tours all over Japan.
But, already done Hiroshima & Miyajima tour more than 400 times.
I traveled many countries in my younger days. I traveled Europe, US, China, India, US, Mexico, Peru Australia, NZ, and so on.
I decided to use this experience to become a guide.
I’m afraid but no tipping required, because cycling guides are not allowed to have tipping in my association. And you do not need to pay for my lunch, because my lunch is prepared by our group.
Please do not hesitate to ask me anything, I’ll change the plan according to your requests.
Thank you for your understanding and please stay connected.

A Licensed Guide's Report on Shibuya, Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku The guests were a group visiting Tokyo for the first time from North America. Since they wanted to experience Japanese history and culture, [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide showed them the highlights of the city. First, they wanted to buy IC cards, and since it was still a hot day, they wanted handheld fans, so we headed to Shibuya first. After seeing the Hachiko statue and the Scramble Crossing, they did some shopping. At Meiji Shrine, they were able to see a wedding ceremony and a Shichi-Go-San celebration, and everyone seemed very pleased. They shopped along Takeshita Street in Harajuku and had lunch at Ippudo in Harakado, enjoying the day to the fullest.

In Tsukiji, we simply strolled around the area. The guests appeared to be familiar with the travel industry and seemed to be joining the tour from a customer's perspective. At the Imperial Palace, because of the heat and some difficulty with walking, we limited our visit to the Ninomaru Garden. In Asakusa, the guests were delighted to see the whole area from the tourist information building. They listened with great interest to explanations such as the differences between temples and shrines. For Tokyo Skytree, only the guests went up. We had originally planned to visit the Shibuya crossing afterward, but since there was not much enthusiasm for it, we decided to skip it and headed back to Yokohama together while chatting, where we parted ways.

The guests were visitors from North America who did not often have opportunities to use trains. It took a little time for them to understand how convenient a one-day subway pass would be for getting around that day. Even after purchasing the passes successfully, the guests both damaged their one-day passes with perspiration, which meant we had to explain the situation to station staff at every subway gate — a bit of a hassle. The guests had separately booked another tour of Tokyo for a later date, so they wanted to avoid overlapping spots as much as possible. I thought Meiji Shrine might be covered on the other tour, but taking them only to Takeshita Street in Harajuku felt unnatural, and it was difficult to include Akihabara and Ginza, which they had also hoped to see, so I chose the route described above. One of the guests was a smoker, so especially in the first half of the tour, we had some difficulty finding places to smoke. Since there are many smoking areas in the Shibuya area, I actively pointed them out wherever smoking was allowed. In the latter half, the temperature rose and some of the guests seemed tired, so I slowed the pace a little. As a result, we arrived at the Hotel slightly later than planned and ended the tour.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who arrived in Yokohama on a cruise, continuing from the previous day. Yesterday I guided them mainly around the western side of Tokyo, and today we focused on the eastern side of Tokyo. At Hamarikyu Gardens, the guests enjoyed the beautiful Japanese garden and Japanese tea at the teahouse on the tidal pond. At the Tsukiji Outer Market, they showed great interest in the lively atmosphere of the tuna shops of Tsukiji Uogashi and the many shops of the outer market. At the Tokyo National Museum, they were especially fascinated by the exhibits related to the tea ceremony, Noh and Kabuki, and paintings. Title: What's a Private Tokyo Sightseeing Tour Like, Including teamLab Planets and Shopping? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors to Japan for the first time, from North America. After sightseeing in Tokyo including teamLab Planets, they planned to travel to Izu to enjoy diving. For lunch in Shibuya, we explored the restaurant floor of FUKURAS, and the guests chose a specialty chicken restaurant themselves. One of the guests enjoyed a very spicy chicken ramen, saying, "It's spicy! Delicious. I love spicy food," and was very satisfied. When we had moved from Asakusa to Shibuya, the topic came up about a knife shop in Asakusa, and the guests asked me to tell them where to find a specialty knife store. So, although it was not part of the original plan, on the way from Meiji Shrine to the Imperial Palace, we got off at Nogizaka and I guided them to "Kiya" inside Tokyo Midtown Roppongi. They seemed to like it very much and purchased three knives, both for themselves and as gifts for friends. The guests also purchased a Kutani-yaki sake cup (an antique) at a tableware shop dealing in antiques. This unplanned shopping seemed to be their favorite part. The guests also remarked that Japanese people dress neatly when they go out.

What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Include? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Shinjuku Gyoen The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They had arrived in Yokohama by cruise ship and planned to stop at several other ports in Japan, such as Shimizu, Osaka, and Hiroshima, before returning home via Hawaii. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed deeply impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo Shogunate. At Shinjuku Gyoen, they enjoyed the beautiful Japanese garden and Japanese tea in the tea house. At the observation deck of the Metropolitan Government Building, they were moved by the vast cityscape of Tokyo. Since I responded to the guests' requests as they wished, I believe they were satisfied.
