Naoshima Art Island in 1 Day Tour

    Tour Itinerary

    • Valley Gallery
    • Apron Cafe
    • Art House Project
    • Ando Museum

What Is a Private Naoshima Art Island Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests visited the Valley Gallery and were very fond of the Narcissus Garden, spending a leisurely time there while taking many photos. They also viewed the 88 Buddhas and were very impressed with the Valley Gallery building itself. Next, as part of the Art House Project, they visited Kadoya and were deeply moved. They also appreciated the concept behind the Art House Project. We then continued to Tadao Ando's restroom and experienced Minamidera, which the guests seemed to enjoy very much. We had lunch at the Apron Cafe and then visited the Ando Museum. The guests said that both the building and Tadao Ando's sketches were wonderful. We then went on to Gio Shrine. Since this seemed to be one of the main things they came for, they took many photos there. The guests were very fond of the other facilities as well, and overall they said it had been a day of beautiful experiences. I shared information about Teshima for the following day, and the tour concluded.

I have been a tour guide for 5 years. I always make an effort to behave as a guide with the spirit of Omotenashi, Japanese hospitality, which contains the attitude to entertain not only guests, but also myself. I specialize in art tour in Naoshima, Teshima, Inujima islands, where I have extensive knowledge about modern art. Additionally, I excel in providing historical context at popular tourist destinations like Kurashiki, Okayama, and Takamatsu.I will tailor your tour to your satisfaction , considering your priority, interest, taste. I do my best to provide as many explanations as possible based on your preferences. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with you.

What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Cover? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Asakusa The guests were visitors from North America, and this was their second visit to Japan. They arrived at the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal on a cruise tour and, after sightseeing in Tokyo, planned to return home via another country from Narita Airport the next day. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was very different from Shibuya. At the Imperial Palace, they listened with great interest to historical explanations about the role of the Emperor, the Meiji Restoration, and the Edo Shogunate. For lunch, they enjoyed Japanese food such as tempura. In Asakusa, they were very interested in explanations about the differences between temples and shrines. They also enjoyed purchasing souvenirs at a T-shirt shop near Senso-ji Temple. I accommodated the guests' requests as they wished, so I believe they were satisfied.

Title: What's a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Prior communication revealed that the accommodation and meeting point were not at the hotel. Learning that the guests would arrive in Hiroshima from Tokyo on the earliest bullet train, we met at Hiroshima Station. After leaving their luggage at the baggage storage, we started the tour. They were lovely guests visiting from North America. Since they had not eaten anything, they bought rice balls at a convenience store and ate them on the train. As they had not yet been to Kyoto, they thoroughly enjoyed the shrines and temples. Lunch was originally planned to be okonomiyaki, but since they were scheduled to have okonomiyaki on a food tour in the evening, and they had already eaten rice balls, we skipped lunch. They mentioned they get seasick, so I recommended returning to the city by public transportation, but they said they wanted to try the boat as well, so they took motion sickness medicine and we headed to Peace Park via the World Heritage sea route. They did not get seasick, and we talked nonstop for the 45-minute ride, making it an enjoyable trip. Since their next tour began in the evening, we ended the tour 30 minutes earlier than planned. It was a busy itinerary and they seemed a little tired, but they smiled and chatted throughout, and I was able to have a very enjoyable time as well.

Title: What Is a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. The itinerary was mainly led by one of the guests, with the others generally following along, and most of the questions came from the same guest. The group happily took many photos throughout the day. At Fushimi Inari, some of the guests wrote wishes on fox-shaped ema plaques and also tried lifting the "omokaru-ishi" stone. At each site, we saw many students on school excursions. The summer heat had eased a little, and we no longer sweated much during the tour. As we are approaching the end of September, this is only natural, and it seems autumn is just around the corner. After visiting Nijo Castle, the guests returned to their hotel by taxi. The photo was taken at Fushimi Inari.

I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries. I really enjoyed showing them around Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Himeji, and Hiroshima. I have been a professional tour guide for about 8 years. I always try to let my guests learn Japanese traditional and modern culture. Since I was born in Kyoto, I know a lot about its culture and people. I myself enjoyed several sports, such as soccer, judo, and marathon when I was young. I’m much interested in baseball and sumo. My motto as a tour guide is to let my guests learn about our tradition and culture precisely and really enjoy themselves. I strongly hope you will enjoy the tour in Japan with me.

What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima for guests visiting Japan from North America. The guests had initially specified a hotel in Osaka as the meeting point, but I explained that it takes about an hour and a half by Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Osaka, and in the end we arranged to meet at Hiroshima Station. The guests later told me that they had thought Osaka and Hiroshima were close to each other, so they had assumed a pickup in Osaka would be possible. The guests viewed the exhibits with great interest and listened attentively to my explanations. At Miyajima, they enjoyed the beautiful scenery and took many photos. They were particularly particular about their photos, retaking them many times until they were satisfied. When I introduced the best photo spot with the five-story pagoda in the background, they were very pleased. On the train back, one of the passengers collapsed, and the train stopped for a long time while an ambulance was called, causing a significant delay. I was very worried about whether the guests would make it in time for their return Shinkansen, but we managed to make it safely.

    Tour Itinerary

    • 8:20 Meet the guests at Hiroshima Port Cruise Terminal

    • 11:10-11:55 Travel from Peace Park to Miyajima [Hiroshima World Heritage Sea Route]
    • 12:00-13:40 Miyajima sightseeing (eat okonomiyaki for lunch, Omotesando Shopping Street, Itsukushima Shrine)
    • 13:55-14:17 Travel from Miyajima to Hiroshima Port [Hiroshima World Heritage Sea Route]
    • 14:29-14:35 Travel from Hiroshima Port Pier to Keirinjo-mae [Bus]
    • 14:45 Disband at Hiroshima Port Cruise Terminal

What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Cruise Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report ■ Meeting Since it was my own first time visiting the cruise terminal, I was a little anxious about the meeting point, but the waiting area, shuttle bus stop, and taxi stand were all very easy to understand, which made it easy to meet the guest. We were able to gather a little earlier than planned, so we could depart with plenty of time to spare. ■ Peace Memorial Park During my explanation of the Atomic Bomb Dome, the guest had tears in their eyes. Because they repeatedly said how truly sorry they felt about what had happened, I told them that having them come here like this is genuinely a source of joy for us and that this is what peace means. Since the guest mentioned they could not stay too long in the Peace Memorial Museum, we left early, took a rest at the rest house, and folded paper cranes during that time. This time, since the guest was traveling alone, it was good that I could adjust the plan even more closely to their preferences. ■ Miyajima As the guest had never tried okonomiyaki, we went to an okonomiyaki restaurant in the shopping street. They told me they were happy to be able to eat local cuisine at such a traditional restaurant, because when traveling alone they never had the courage to go and always ended up at fast food places. After that we visited Itsukushima Shrine and returned to the ferry terminal. I felt I must be careful, because sitting down to eat lunch at a restaurant rather than eating while walking naturally shortens the time available for other sightseeing. I was sorry that we had to rush at the end. ■ Transportation Due to time constraints, we used ferries for transportation this time. In particular, the ferry that goes directly from Miyajima to Hiroshima Port (although it was a little far from the cruise terminal) greatly reduces travel time, so I thought the guest would not feel too tired. ■ Impressions The guest travels around the world by cruise ship and shared many stories about cruising and the places they have visited so far. They told me it was a very enjoyable tour that flew by, which made me extremely happy. This is unrelated to the tour, but there were several times when they were troubled by not being able to use Wi-Fi, so I thought that if the Wi-Fi environment were improved, traveling in Hiroshima would become even easier. Once again, I felt fortunate to meet such a wonderful guest. Thank you very much.

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like for Repeat Visitors to Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the second time, having first toured the country about ten years ago, and this time they wanted to explore places different from before. On this trip they also planned to visit Izukogen. Since they live in a highland area in North America, they said they felt relieved and comfortable to be free from Tokyo's high humidity today. Some of the guests enjoy photography and turn the photos into jigsaw puzzles. The guests are fond of Japan, and mentioned that a recently awarded film set in Japan's samurai era left a strong impression on them. As a result, they were interested in the relationship between the Emperor and the Shogun, which became a topic of conversation. They were also interested in the culture of that period, so Hakone's marquetry woodwork (yosegi-zaiku), the Hakone Checkpoint (Sekisho) ruins and the surrounding townscape, and Hakone Shrine all made for ideal sightseeing subjects. This private tour was arranged through [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/), one of Japan's largest networks of government-licensed, English-speaking private tour guides, serving all 47 prefectures. Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on History and the Atomic Bomb Body: The guests were visitors from North America. In their email, they mentioned that they had learned about Japan's wars and the wars Japan experienced, and they wanted to ask questions about them. So at Hiroshima Castle, rather than focusing on the history of the castle itself, I explained the wars that Japan initiated or took part in after the Meiji Restoration. I described the background of the First Sino-Japanese War, the war with China that began with the Manchurian Incident, and the Pacific War, along with their backgrounds and reasons. The guests said they had learned a great deal, though I felt I needed to explain things in a more organized way. It was interesting that they were more interested in Japan's wars than in the atomic bomb. At the end, however, one of the guests asked, "Don't the people of Hiroshima hate the country that dropped the atomic bomb?" When I replied, "People hate the war, not the country. Nuclear weapons must never be used," they nodded deeply in agreement.

What Is a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like for International Guests? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. They had been to Japan once before in 1971, and this was their first return since then. They arrived in Japan on the 20th, spent about four days sightseeing in Kyoto guided by an acquaintance, and then came to Tokyo. After Tokyo, they planned to travel around Japan by cruise ship, then visit Singapore as well, for a trip of about three weeks in total. Although they were quite active, and just as they had mentioned in our email exchanges beforehand that they played two rounds of golf every week, they were able to walk the entire itinerary without any trouble. We mainly visited traditional sites, and they took photos at each sightseeing point and enjoyed themselves. Beyond the sightseeing spots, they also asked a variety of questions about Japanese culture and daily life. At the end, once we had passed through the ticket gates at Shinjuku Station, which was nearest to their hotel, they said they could return to the hotel on their own, so we parted ways there.

Title: What Is a Private Car Tour of Kyoto Like With a Licensed Guide? Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Nijo Castle During the tour I learned that one of the guests had some difficulty walking, so I asked the taxi driver to come to Torokko Arashiyama Station at the end of the bamboo grove walk, and the guest boarded there. At Kinkaku-ji, I explained near the gate, using the map, that there were stairs. Since the guest said they wanted to turn back after photographing the golden pavilion, I gave an explanation at the spot where photos of the interior of the pavilion are displayed, and then we returned to the entrance. The guests asked me where would be best to buy a Shinkansen ticket for their trip to Tokyo the next day. As the taxi driver said they would pass Nijo Station on the way to Nijo Castle, I had them stop at Nijo Station and helped purchase a Green Car ticket and a limited express ticket. Since they had little cash left, they withdrew money from the ATM at a convenience store at Nijo Station. At Nijo Castle, I informed them that a wheelchair could be borrowed for free inside the Ninomaru Palace, and since they wished to use it, we did. After guiding them through the Ninomaru Garden, the guests said they wanted to turn back, so we returned to the Ninomaru Palace and exited through the Higashi-Otemon Gate. I explained that entering the Honmaru Palace requires an advance reservation, and since they said they would not use the wheelchair to walk through the garden (they said the wheelchair was only needed inside the Ninomaru Palace), we did not go as far as the Honmaru Palace. The guests had asked me in advance to prepare itinerary proposals, so I had sent three suggestions plus a rainy-day itinerary by email, and the day before they decided on this itinerary. According to the taxi driver, there were quite a lot of tour groups visiting Kyoto today, so I was glad they had chosen this itinerary. Because of the walking difficulty I had been concerned about the bamboo grove walk, but I was relieved that they were able to walk as far as Torokko Arashiyama Station where the taxi driver came to meet us.
