What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa and Tokyo Tower
The guests were visitors from Europe. They were a reserved and considerate group, and the tour proceeded in a warm and pleasant atmosphere from beginning to end. They were surprised by the large population and crowds of Tokyo. They mentioned that it was their first time riding the subway. I received questions about who is buried in and who owns the graves in the cemetery near the temple. At the observation deck of Tokyo Tower, they were especially interested in the video introducing the history of Tokyo and the construction of Tokyo Tower, and the guests watched it attentively, taking their time. I was delighted to accompany such a lovely group.

During my military career, as foreign liaison officer, I was in charge of receiving foreign military officers from various countries. I was assigned to headquarters, units and schools around Japan. Now, I work for the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), attending foreign government officials and supporting foreign students. I am most interested in Japan’s history in general and temples and shrines in particular. I wish to become a tour guide who can represent Japan’s traditional values, such as respect for others and hospitality.

We loved Nakamura as he knew a lot about history and was extremely accommodating. It
was not easy for us to navigate all the different sights that we wanted to see so having
Nakamura was essential. He knew the metro and sights very well.

I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who would like to get an overview of some of Tokyo’s important landmarks. We gave NAKAMURA San free rein to design a tour that he would think interest us. He provided us with interesting insights into Japanese history that provided context to the temples, shrines and landmarks he took us to. The time went by very quickly which was testament to the pace and interest with which we had with each place we visited. A great way to get acquainted with Tokyo with a knowledgeable local Japanese. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
