What's a 4-Hour Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Koishikawa Korakuen, and Yanaka
Tour name: Tokyo 4 Hours Weather: Sunny, 23°C Guests: The guests were visitors from North America.
[First stop] Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple → Outer Market I explained the history of Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple as well as Shinto and Buddhism, and then we entered the main hall. The guests experienced the pipe organ and the atmosphere inside the hall. Afterward we headed to the Tsukiji Outer Market. We strolled around and enjoyed the street food and the lively, crowded market atmosphere.
[Second stop] Koishikawa Korakuen Garden We strolled through this curious Edo-period natural space, where the modern Tokyo Dome and Korakuen amusement park can be seen in the background, and enjoyed the garden rich in Chinese-inspired design.
[Third stop] Nezu Shrine → Yanaka Ginza The weather was fine and the area was bustling with many tourists. We enjoyed the thousand torii gates, passed through Hebi-michi (Snake Road), and went via Yanaka Ginza to Nippori Station, where the tour ended.
A notable stop on the tour was Nezu Shrine. Nezu Shrine is one of Tokyo's oldest shrines, with a history said to date back many centuries, and it is renowned for its vermilion-lacquered buildings in the ornate Gongen-zukuri architectural style. The shrine is especially famous for its tunnel of thousands of small torii gates and for its azalea garden, which draws many visitors during the blooming season in spring. Located in the quiet Yanaka area, it offers a peaceful atmosphere that contrasts with the busier parts of central Tokyo, making it a popular stop for those exploring the city's traditional side.

The Toyosu tuna auction experience was incredible. I have always wanted to see the auction but until this trip had not managed to fit it into my itinerary. So on this trip I decided to make the early morning effort to see it and in the process I was fortunate to win the lottery and get an even better view of the whole experience ! A shout out to my guide who made the experience first rate, Katsu-San. Katsu-sans knowledge of the market and the tuna auction process, and his enthusiasm to share it, was exceptional. I would recommend him and the tour without hesitation . I would not have understand what I was seeing without his guidance and good humour.
