    Title: What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Himeji Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Himeji Castle, Koko-en, and Engyo-ji Temple Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They had arrived two weeks earlier and, after touring various regions, came to Himeji from Osaka today. After sightseeing in Himeji, they planned to return home from Kansai International Airport the next day. We met in front of the central ticket gate at Himeji Station. At Castle View, I explained an overview of Himeji Castle and the historical background of its construction. We then purchased round-trip discount tickets for the bus and the Shosha-zan Ropeway to the summit station, and set off on foot toward Himeji Castle. It was a hot day for April. As it was a Saturday, the main keep of Himeji Castle was crowded, but the guests were impressed by both the defensive features and the beauty of the castle. Koko-en Garden, which we visited next, was also full of visitors, but the guests seemed to enjoy the beauty of each of the individual gardens. After Koko-en, we had a light meal at a nearby teahouse and then took the bus to Engyo-ji Temple. Engyo-ji Temple was also busy with visitors that day. Even so, the guests were delighted, saying that the quiet path leading from Maniden Hall to the three main halls, and the atmosphere around the inner sanctuary seen from the Jikido (dining hall), were truly moving. Overall it became a somewhat long tour, but in the end I believe it was a very good one.

    Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like for Cruise Passengers? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania, traveling as part of a cruise. We moved at the same relaxed pace, which made it easy for me as a guide since we did not need to rush. At one point I wondered where they had gone, only to find them sitting on a bench eating a banana, which I believe was their own way of managing their energy. Originally I had planned to visit Meiji Shrine after Shibuya Crossing, but since they wanted to head back, we went straight to Tokyo Station. Even so, at the East Gardens they kept saying "Beautiful," and at Senso-ji Temple they enjoyed buying souvenirs and amulets, drawing omikuji fortunes, and reading them aloud in English with great delight. The guests kindly told me I was a "Wonderful Guide."

    Title: What's a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Asakusa The guests were visitors from North America, and it was their first time in Japan. They arrived at Narita Airport the previous evening, took the Narita Express to Tokyo Station, and then walked to their hotel. This visit to Japan was for about a week, with three days in Tokyo, followed by visits to Kyoto and Osaka, and then a departure to Hong Kong, where they planned to stay before returning home. They mentioned that relatives and friends had traveled to Japan for sightseeing, and inspired by them, they had decided to visit. The tour took place in almost hot weather. First, we headed to Harajuku and Meiji Shrine. One of the guests enjoyed photography and wanted to capture "beautiful scenery" in Japan. I explained about the torii gates, Emperor Meiji, the history of Edo and Tokyo, and the Meiji Restoration. At the iris garden, the irises had not yet bloomed. However, the azaleas were almost in full bloom, and photos were taken here and there. Afterward, we encountered a wedding procession within the grounds and took photographs. We then moved to the Imperial Palace and strolled through the East Gardens. The cherry blossoms had mostly fallen, which was a bit disappointing. I explained about the history from the Edo period to the Meiji era, as well as "why did Edo Castle become the Imperial Palace?" and gave an overview of the current Imperial family. There were also comments such as "the pine trees are beautiful, like bonsai," and questions like "does the Japanese Emperor hold political power?" and "who will be the next Emperor?" From there we went to Ueno Station. Since the reservation for the Shinkansen to Kyoto had not yet been made, we purchased the tickets. After this, we headed to Rikugien Garden. The weeping cherry tree at the entrance had already lost its blossoms, but there was a comment: "the Japanese garden is wonderful. I would love to create one in my own garden at home." The azaleas were beginning to bloom beautifully, which was delightful. We took a break at a teahouse, where one of the guests ordered kitsune udon, mentioning having occasionally experienced Japanese food in the city center. Finally, we went to Asakusa. It was extremely crowded with people. Drawing omikuji fortunes, one guest got "bad luck" and the other got "small blessing," which was somewhat disappointing. There was a comment: "we went to Vietnam last year, and the atmosphere of the temples is somewhat similar." We slowly strolled through the Nakamise shopping street. There were also comments and questions such as "there is no trash on the streets and it is clean," "there are no homeless people to be seen," "the city center back home is full of homeless people," and "why are there no trash cans on the streets?" There were also comments like "the trains and subways are clean and quiet, with no one talking loudly," and "the public restrooms are clean." At the guests' request to be taken to Roppongi to meet an acquaintance living in Japan, I saw them off at Roppongi Station / the entrance to Roppongi Hills, where we parted ways.

    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity.     Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Harajuku and Asakusa The private walking tour proceeded without any particular issues, following the route and timing that had been confirmed with the guests in advance. Since part of the Yamanote Line was suspended, I had anticipated crowding on the subway, but it was no busier than usual. Although the day was quite hot, it was not enough to interfere with the tour, and overall we were able to enjoy a walking tour under comfortable weather. When I asked what the guests would like to have for lunch, there was no specific request, so I took them to a popular ramen restaurant in Harajuku, where they enjoyed their meal along with beer and gyoza. After lunch, I guided them around Asakusa, and when the scheduled time arrived, the tour ended on site.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Like? They seemed to really enjoy taking lots of photos of beautiful scenery and fun shots. On Miyajima, rather than Itsukushima Shrine itself, they got very excited taking slightly daring photos amid the shifting flow from low tide to high tide. Since their request was for a "short stay at Itsukushima Shrine" on Miyajima, after returning to Hiroshima City the tour focused on Hiroshima's history and the atomic bombing, centering on the Peace Park, the museum, and Hiroshima Castle. Beyond the destinations themselves, it was a day of endless conversation with the guests.

    What Is a Private Kyoto and Uji Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Byodo-in, Gion, and Nishiki Market The guests today were a group visiting from Europe. The meeting time had been set for 10:00, but while I was waiting at Kyoto Station, the guests suddenly contacted me to change the meeting time, and we arranged to meet at 11:00 in front of a McDonald's. One of the guests requested that I guide them to a place away from crowds, so I decided to take them to Byodo-in in Uji. This was not the group's first visit to Japan, and they had been to Kyoto before as well. The weather was fine today, warm enough to make you sweat, almost like early summer. There were relatively few tourists, and the wisteria at Byodo-in had begun to bloom, so the guests were able to enjoy it very much. For lunch we had pizza to recharge, then moved on to Gion by train and bus. In Gion, I explained about maiko and geiko, and told them about the training and living environment of maiko while strolling around Hanamikoji and the Tatsumi Shrine area, after which I guided them to a shopping street. I also guided them to Nishiki Market, but the crowds were tremendous, so we gave up partway through and had them take a break at a coffee shop, and since it was time, we parted ways there. Some of the guests seemed a little tired from walking, but once I guided them through the shopping street they became noticeably energized, and they happily enjoyed shopping before heading back to their hotel in Osaka.

    As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
    And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.

    Title: What's a Private Tour of Asakusa, Tsukiji, and Nezu Shrine Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe. We first visited Asakusa, where I explained the origins of Kaminarimon and its lantern. They were surprised that nearly all the visitors were from overseas. When they drew an omikuji fortune and got "small blessing," I told them they were lucky, but they were a little disappointed to find the English content did not seem so lucky. They were impressed by the beauty of the five-story pagoda and by how its earthquake-resistant structure has been applied to the Tokyo Skytree. Next we moved to Tsukiji, and since they had wanted to eat sushi for some time, I reserved a restaurant and they enjoyed a sushi lunch right away. Finally we visited Nezu Shrine, where an azalea festival was being held. They said it was the first time they had ever seen such beautiful azaleas, so I felt relieved and glad to have brought them there. There was a one-hour wait to enter the azalea garden, but the flowers were beautiful enough even when viewed from a distance.

    What Is a Private Walking Tour of Nara Park from Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting the Nara area. Despite an unusually hot summer-like day in April, the group managed to walk from Kintetsu Nara Station through the Nara Park area and back to Kintetsu Nara Station. The main challenge was the train ride from Kyoto to Nara. We traveled from Sanjo to Tambabashi and then to Kintetsu Nara. At Tambabashi, the Kintetsu limited express was fully booked and unavailable, and the express train we boarded was also nearly full. Even so, the guests were able to find seats one by one at the following stops, though they were seated separately. It would have been ideal to reserve the limited express in advance, but because of the risk of a last-minute cancellation, I do not wish to make reservations under the guide's responsibility. The same issue applies to restaurants and similar facilities. It would be very helpful if [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) could announce to guests something along the lines of: "For facilities such as restaurants that require reservations, as well as for transportation, please make the reservations yourselves. Of course, the guide is happy to advise on how to make reservations." I would greatly appreciate this. At the guests' request, the tour was shortened, and the actual time in Nara was about four hours. While I personally was left feeling that there was more I would have liked to show, the guests seemed very pleased.

    Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
    I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
    After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
    I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
    What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

    What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Peace Park Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Oceania and a group visiting from North America. At Miyajima, I explained the difference between temples and shrines, as well as the guardian lion-dogs and the Nio guardian statues standing at the gate in front of the temple. They also asked about Shinto and Buddhism, so I explained those as well. The area was overflowing with tourists, but I believe they enjoyed themselves fully. They mentioned that they liked udon, so they were delighted to try Sanuki udon. At the Peace Park, they had many questions, such as how atomic bomb survivors feel about people from North America, the difference between plutonium and uranium bombs, the number and ages of survivors still living in Hiroshima, and how long reconstruction took. They seemed satisfied with my explanations, which was gratifying. One of the guests had very clear and easy-to-understand pronunciation. We had a pleasant time together.

    Title: What Is a Private Half-Day Tokyo Tour from Hinode Pier Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests appeared to have arrived at Haneda Airport that day. They contacted me to say they could not check in to their hotel yet and asked whether we could start earlier, so we suddenly changed the start time from 13:00 to 11:20. Since there was a sightseeing boat departing from Hinode Pier at 11:35, we took that boat and I guided them around Asakusa and the Imperial Palace. Originally the plan was to continue the tour up to Tokyo Tower and finish there, but since they had not slept for 24 hours, they wanted to head to their hotel, so I put them in a taxi in front of the Hotel. The guests were visiting from Europe. They mentioned that they would be boarding a cruise ship from the afternoon of the following day.
