    Was Nachi Falls and the Kumano Area Worth a Private Car Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report Because we were able to travel by rental car driven by one of the guests, we had a high degree of freedom and could expand our range of activities. Needless to say, the guests enjoyed the area around Nachi Falls, which is famous and popular with everyone. In addition, destinations that are best reached by car, such as Amida-ji Temple and Dorokyo Gorge, were quiet and we hardly encountered anyone, which I believe was a special experience for the guests, who are used to city life. As a typical contrast, the surface of the stone steps of Daimon-zaka, where many people pass through, is cleanly exposed, whereas the stone steps of Amida-ji Temple are entirely covered in moss. The Yamabiko Bridge at Dorokyo Gorge is quite high and thrilling, and everyone is surprised when I tell them that it was washed away in the flood of 2011 and rebuilt afterward. The sanma-zushi (Pacific saury sushi) we had for lunch is a traditional dish of this region, and the guests liked it very much.

    I grew up in the mountain village. I learned many things from my family, especially my grandmother. I can give you many interesting experiences in the wild nature. We eat wild strawberries or “Sukanpo ” the edible grass, fly ferns or cross a suspension bridge.
    I walked all of Kumano Kodo, Koyasan pilgrimage roads and other ancient highways, total length is more than 600km ( 400 miles).
    I want you to show the interesting spots beyond the guide book. Kii mountain range has old history as well as beautiful land scapes. I’ll take you the excellent places you can do Facebook bragging.
    My experiences for guiding foreigners are, town of Koyasan, pilgrimage road to Koyasan, Kumano Kodo Nakahechi, hot springs, Shingu city and Nachi Katsuura town, Kushimoto area, Shirahama area so on.

    Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Osaka Castle Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had arrived at Kansai International Airport the previous night. In the morning there was heavy rain, and by the time we reached the main keep of Osaka Castle, the guests, who only had rain jackets, were soaked. When I suggested buying umbrellas at Miraiza, they took a liking not to the plastic umbrellas but to the traditional janome umbrellas, and both of them purchased one. Perhaps because of the weather, there were few tourists inside the main keep of Osaka Castle, which was fortunate. No one was lined up for the usual samurai helmet and jinbaori try-on experience, which normally has a long queue, so they tried it on right away and purchased the photos that were taken. Had it been sunny, the plan was to visit Dotonbori after the Umeda Sky Building, but since the guests were wet even inside their trousers and shoes, we decided to return to the hotel to change clothes and move on to Kyoto earlier than planned. Travel is greatly affected by the weather, and it can significantly change how much fun you have. Tomorrow looks like it will be sunny, so I hope the guests can fully enjoy Kyoto.

    What Is a Private Kyoto Tour of Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. This was a graduation trip, and it was their first time in Japan. I took them to Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama, but the tour ended up taking place in heavy rain. To avoid the crowds, we entered Fushimi Inari shortly after 9:00, but just like two days earlier, it was far more crowded than expected. In the heavy rain, the area in front of the Senbon Torii went beyond congestion and became completely gridlocked. Since I had built some extra time into the schedule, we were able to finish the tour on time as planned, but I felt especially sorry about how crowded Fushimi Inari was. Even with everyone using umbrellas, we all ended up soaked. It was also raining heavily in Arashiyama, but there were fewer people there, so I think the guests were able to enjoy it a little. Everyone especially liked the bamboo grove.

    What Is a Private Day Tour of Koyasan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Although the itinerary called for a 10:30 meeting time, I waited early and was able to meet the guests at 10:10. Since the indoor tour of Kongobuji Temple tends to get more crowded as the day goes on, we visited it first. I explained that Koyasan experiences frequent afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and because it sits on high, flat terrain, lightning strikes have historically caused many fires, leaving almost none of the buildings from the time of its founding. At the Shinbetsuden hall, an ikebana flower arrangement display was taking place, allowing the guests to enjoy an aspect of Japanese culture. We then moved on to Okunoin, and partway through the walk we stopped at a restaurant for lunch, but for some reason we were turned away at the entrance. We took a bus to the Danjo Garan complex. Crossing the mountain path on the north side, we visited the Tokugawa Mausoleum by the shortest route, then moved to Koyasan Station from the bus stop in front of Kongobuji, saw the guests off, and parted ways. (Please delete the following if it causes any problems.) I believe I was able to respond with a smile throughout. When we said goodbye, I handed over a review card (which I would never do if I felt the tour had gone poorly), but I received a harsh review stating a request for a refund of the guide fee.

    Can You Do a Private Walking Tour of Koyasan's Temples? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from a region with a Buddhist cultural background, so they explored the interior of Kongobuji Temple with great interest. Because the rooms inside Kongobuji Temple tend to become gradually crowded, we began the tour with this visit. Regarding the Mani Treasure Pagoda, while not academically precise, I spoke about the Theravada Buddhist culture of Southeast Asia and the history of the Japanese military's invasion during the Second World War. In the pitch-dark basement, the guests enjoyed the attraction of "seeing Buddha within hell." After walking partway along the approach to Okunoin, we stepped out onto the street for a while and had a late lunch at Tenpu Terrace. They liked its open atmosphere, the number of seats, the variety of the menu, and the staff's ability to communicate in foreign languages. Since the guests' lodging was Yochiin temple lodging, after visiting the Tokugawa Mausoleum, we took a shortcut over the mountain and finally toured the Danjo Garan complex before parting ways.

    Title: What's a Private Shopping-Focused Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Akihabara, and Takeshita Street The guests' hotel was conveniently located near Tokyo Station, but because the lobby is on the top floor, it sometimes causes confusion. This time I had let them know by email that I would be waiting in the lobby on the 15th floor, but it seemed they had not noticed the message, so the group was waiting near the entrance on the ground floor. Just as I was about to go down to check the ground floor, one of the guests came up to the 15th floor, so we managed to avoid any trouble. So that everyone in the group could enjoy the day, the spots chosen were all places where shopping could be enjoyed. Recently at Tsukiji I often have lunch at the fish market dining hall, which is popular because even those who are not fond of raw fish can enjoy dishes like mixed fried food and chicken noodle soup. In Akihabara they did not end up making any big purchases, but since they were planning to stay in Tokyo for a few more days afterward, I hope it served as a helpful reference. After showing them around Takeshita Street, I saw them back to the Hotel and we parted ways.

    What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like With a Licensed Guide? A Report on Shinjuku, Shibuya, and the East Gardens The guests came down to the lobby early, so we were able to meet up smoothly. Since they had Suica cards, we traveled between Shinjuku Station and Shibuya Station on the Yamanote Line. The guests were a refined group. As they had not yet seen the Scramble Crossing, I showed it to them before we took the subway. Among the spots they wanted to visit, only the East Gardens were located separately, so I first took them to Otemachi and then we returned to Shinjuku. For lunch I chose a restaurant inside a department store building, and although we had to wait a little, I believe they enjoyed a traditional Japanese lunch. All the afternoon spots were close to their hotel, which was helpful as I did not have to worry about travel time. At the end I saw them back to their hotel before we parted ways. Please note that the admission fee for Shinjuku Gyoen was paid by the guests, so it is not included in the reimbursement expenses.

    Title: What Is a Private Family Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tokyo Tower, Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji, and Skytree The guests were a group visiting from North America. Prior to the tour, they had requested visits to Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Meiji Shrine, and Tsukiji, and I had asked the guests to make the reservations for Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree themselves. At the meeting point, I reviewed the itinerary again before starting the tour. One of the guests, visiting Japan for the second time, had Japanese roots but did not speak Japanese and was very fond of Japanese rice crackers. One of the guests had trouble with their knee, so I made sure to walk slowly and use elevators and escalators whenever possible (though in the subway one always has to walk to wherever the elevator happens to be located). The group had arrived via Kansai Airport and had already finished sightseeing in Kyoto, and the day before they had joined a food tour in Shibuya (they enjoyed many things, but some of the guests said the texture of the octopus in takoyaki was not to their taste). Some of the guests had spent time in Africa. Several of the guests were very interested in food and asked me questions such as "Where can we eat omurice?" and "Where can we find good fluffy pancakes?" In two days they were scheduled to join a 10-day cruise visiting various parts of Japan (Aomori, Hakodate, Kagoshima, and others) as well as Jeju Island in Korea. At Tokyo Tower, they spent about an hour and also bought souvenirs (they discovered Soka senbei rice crackers at the souvenir corner on the second floor! I recommended them, and they immediately purchased five bags). After guiding them through Meiji Shrine, one of the guests wished to leave and head straight back to the hotel, so I saw them safely into a taxi at the taxi stand near JR Harajuku Station, and then guided the remaining members of the group to Tsukiji. Although their jet lag seemed to have worn off, because it was a packed family tour, some of the younger guests looked rather sleepy. At Tsukiji, they sat down inside and took their time enjoying wagyu skewers, wagyu burgers, and ice cream, and then we headed to Skytree Town. Since their entry reservation was for 4:00, they said they would try to find a restaurant serving omurice until then, so after confirming the Skytree entrance, we parted ways with smiles.

    What Is a Private Guided Walk of the Nakasendo Trail to Tsumago-juku Like? A Licensed Guide's Rainy-Day Report The guests were visitors from Asia. Because the tour took place in poor weather, I conducted the guiding with safety as the top priority. For lunch, the group ate at a local restaurant. Since time was tight, I was glad I had checked the menu in advance. In the afternoon the rain grew even heavier and it became challenging, but by taking frequent breaks we made it safely all the way to Tsumago-juku. After arriving at Tsumago-juku, the guests quickly purchased some souvenirs, then moved on to Nagiso Station, where we parted ways.

A Licensed Guide's Report** [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private tour of the Hakkoda, Jogakura, and Kuroishi areas for a group visiting from North America. Everyone in the group was deeply moved by the Chino Chaya and the beech forest, where snow still remained. The guests spoke a little Japanese, and when asked "Benjo doko desu ka?" (Where is the restroom?), the guide sensed a connection to Japan in the question. There was also a conversation about how certain names would be written in kanji. When asked how names such as Kasai, Oshita, Yoko, and Honjo are written, the guide offered some possible kanji versions, while noting that many variations exist and that it was difficult to say which characters would correspond to each family's actual surname.
