What Is a Slow-Paced Private Osaka Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Sumiyoshi Taisha Yesterday I guided a group of guests on a slow-paced private tour of Osaka, taking breaks along the way to accommodate one of the guests. At Osaka Castle, one of the guests found walking difficult, so that person waited near the nearest station while the others toured the site. Although they could only view Osaka Castle from the outside, they seemed very satisfied with its beauty and grandeur. Afterward, at the adjacent "Miraiza," the guests purchased a variety of souvenirs. At the next spot, Sumiyoshi Taisha, all of the guests took great interest and enjoyed themselves. They also eagerly stroked the popular "petting rabbit." Because the tour proceeded at a slow pace, we parted ways after passing the scheduled time by about 30 minutes. Note) As with the previous day, Osaka Castle in particular seems difficult for guests who have trouble walking. It would be very helpful if we could obtain advance information on this point. As a guide, I make a point of informing guests each time that the tour involves 30 to 45 minutes of walking as well as steep, long stairs, but most respond that it will be "no problem."

    Dear my guests,

This is (Mr.) Yama, greeting from Kobe, Japan.
I would like to warmly welcome you to Japan this time. I am from the city of Kobe, which is of course, well-known for very tasty Kobe Beef . You can taste
real genuine Kobe Beef here. Kobe is also called “Home of Japanese Sake” with lots of Sake breweries, and I recommend you would visit those breweries
if you have any interest in Japanese Sake as well as one aspect of Japanese cultures. Of course, you can have tastings of various kinds of Sake there.

Whenever during the tour, I always try to make it safe, pleasant and comfortable for all of the guests, which is my first priority. I am very much confident
that you can have a pleasant and unforgettable experience in Japan. Just tell me about your preference; what you would like to like to see, have, know
and eat and so on. Particularly, I hold the license for cooking qualified by the government here and maybe, I can reply you for questions related to the
foods here. In this respect, I strongly recommend you would try not only famous Japanese cuisine such as Sushi, Tempura or Suki-yaki but some
Japanese traditional local foods, like Tako-yaki, Okonomi-yaki and Kushkatsu. They are sometimes called the soul foods of Japan. Here is the brief
    explanation for these three foods.

    1) Tako-yaki
Tako-yaki is a snack filled with pieces of octopus in a batter of flour , egg and soup stock. You can call them octopus dumplings or balls. “Tako” means
octopus and “yaki” means grilled or broiled.
    2) Okonomi-yaki
This word Okonomi-yaki means “cook just as you like” and you can use whatever you like as toppings, such as beef, pork, shrimp, squid and octopus.
Okonomi-yaki is round shape and just like pancakes or pizza in shape mainly made from egg, flour and water.
    3) Kushi-katsu
Kushi-katsu is skewered cutlet or deep-fried foods on a stick. “Kushi” means skewer and “katsu” means cutlet. Various kinds of foods are used for
ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, squid, octopus and lots of kinds of vegetables.

Actually, the western Japan including Osaka, Kobe and Himeji is called as “Home of such local soul foods”. You should give it a try and I am sure
that you like them very much.

I sincerely hope that I can be your tour guide this time in Kobe, Osaka and Himeji. If my guests said to me after the tour, “I have had a very good
and pleasant time with you today. I hope I can come here again and name you as our guide”, which is my great pleasure. Moreover, I would be
great honored if they say “I like Japan now thanks to you”.

Looking forward to meeting you soon here.
    Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu!

Title: What's a Private Nara Deer Park Tour Like for Guests Visiting Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. During the tour, one of the guests enjoyed spending as much time as possible with the deer and was thoroughly delighted. Another member of the group listened with great interest to my explanations about history, Shinto, and Buddhism. For the first time, I experienced live-streaming the deer and part of my commentary to another member of the group who could not join this time. Some time after the tour ended and we said goodbye, I received this wonderful message through a messaging app: We had the very best time. You have been our most favorite guide and we feel like we learned so much.

Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

  • Takayama Customized Half-Day Tour

    Takayama Customized Half-Day Tour

    Tour Itinerary

    • 12:05 Hida Kokubunji Temple, 12:30 Morning Market, 13:10 Yatai Kaikan (Festival Float Exhibition Hall), 14:10 Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, 14:40 Old Townscape, 15:10 Takayama Jinya

The conversation flowed on many topics beyond Takayama itself, including how vacations are taken in Japan, oshiroi (white face powder), Children's Day, and how pets are kept. Regarding souvenirs, the guests said they would stay in Takayama for a few more days and take their time to look around and shop after the tour. At Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, there were few tourists, and the guests enjoyed the calm and quiet atmosphere. At the Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, the guests were impressed by the floats, saying the level was different from festivals in their own region, and took photos. In the old townscape, they enjoyed a sake tasting and took many photos. One of the guests especially loved it, saying they wanted to stay there forever. At the Jinya, the guests said it was wonderful to learn about the real Japan of the past. As we parted, they told me "good job" and we took a photo together.

Hello everyone! Thank you for your interest in Takayama and Shirakawa-go! I live in Takayama city and am really enjoying sharing the interesting history and shops with tourists! Both of Takayama and Shirakawa-go have rich and interesting cultures. Takayama was an isolated town surrounded by deep mountains but was a direct control of the central Edo government; Why? There are as many as seven sake brewers in the small Old Town; Why? Where did the beauty of uniformity in the traditional houses come from? What kinds of lives did the samurai, town people, and farmers have during the Edo period? Shirakawa-go had a unique marriage system during the Edo period that we don’t have anymore. What was that?? Let’s explore many interesting things with me! We can also enjoy hiking on the temple area and enjoy coffee at a nice café. Of course, I am happy to help you finding shops if you are a shopping lover!

What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, a Samurai Ninja Museum, and Meiji Shrine 1. Tour highlights and guest reactions The guests had arrived in Japan only the night before, and some in the group seemed a little tired from jet lag, but they perked up after enjoying soft-serve ice cream and a strawberry dessert in Asakusa. At the Samurai Ninja Museum, the whole group had fun with a shuriken throwing game. For lunch, they had Sanuki udon in a standing-style eatery as requested, and I sparked their interest by explaining that udon was a kind of fast food in the old days. At Meiji Shrine, they seemed moved by the solemn atmosphere, which was so different from that of Senso-ji Temple. 2. Other comments, notes, and requests None in particular.

What's a Relaxed Private Walking Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report I guided a group in Osaka. Since they planned to visit Osaka Castle on their own the next day, their wish was to sightsee a little at a time rather than covering a lot in a single day. Shitennoji was not holding a temple fair, but as it was a Sunday at the start of the month, a market had been set up, and the guests enjoyed browsing the handmade goods. There happened to be a rare chindon-ya (traditional street performers), and we took a photo together. The person wearing a kimono was very friendly. We walked over to Tsutenkaku and I asked if they wanted to eat something there, but they just took photos and decided to eat in Dotonbori instead. After eating at a ramen shop in Sennichimae, we walked around Hozenji Yokocho, came out at Nipponbashi, explored Kuromon Market, and then I saw them off at their hotel. I explained how they could take the subway on their own the next day.

Hi! I’m an official English guide in Wakayama prefecture. I’m also a national guide as well. I’d like to expand my guide area to help tourists.
The town of Osaka offers a different atmosphere than Tokyo. I like both exciting Osaka and nature-filled Wakayama Prefecture.
If you stay in Osaka for 3 days, you can go to Koyasan for one day, or even for a day trip, so I recommend sightseeing at Koyasan.
If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city, the nature of Koyasan will relax you.
I will introduce you to the unique culture, history and must-see sights.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkakuji — A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. I had initially been told there would be more people, but at the meeting point I was informed that the final number had changed. During the tour, I called the restaurant to let them know the number had decreased. It was everyone's first time in Japan and in Kyoto. I took the group to Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkakuji. At Fushimi Inari in particular, I had planned to arrive by 9:30 to avoid the crowds, but even so, the Senbon Torii was so packed that it was hard to move at all. It was the first time I had seen it this crowded at this hour. Even so, the group enjoyed Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkakuji respectively. Since it looked like the tour would finish a little early, I suggested also visiting Heian Shrine on the way back, but the group preferred to finish early, so we parted ways with an arrival at the Hotel at 14:30 (finishing 30 minutes early).

Title: What's a Relaxed Private Osaka Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. The tour route was left entirely to me as the guide, and the only request was to avoid too much walking, so I arranged a relaxed itinerary covering Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, lunch at Kuromon Market, and Osaka Castle. At Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, after passing through the torii gate and the purification fountain and going a little further in, one of the guests took a rest, so I guided the other. I learned that a grandchild was expected at the end of the month, so an ema plaque wishing for a safe delivery was dedicated, and I also guided them to a small shrine associated with wishes for children, which was much appreciated. At Osaka Castle as well, one of the guests rested around the area just inside the main gate, so I guided the other. One of the guests took many videos and photos everywhere we went but did not walk much, which worried me at first, though the other seemed used to it as usual. At the end of the tour, the guests asked to take a photo of the three of us together, and I felt relieved thinking they may have enjoyed the tour.

What's a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Tokyo Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Shibuya, and Harajuku The guests were a group visiting Japan on holiday. They had arrived the previous night. Since shops would not yet be open at 8:30, I contacted them in advance and we arranged to meet at 9:00. Although it was unfortunately raining, we proceeded as planned and first went to Asakusa. On Nakamise Street, they enjoyed eating ningyo-yaki, strawberry daifuku, and strawberry candy, took photos of Kaminarimon and the five-story pagoda, drew omikuji fortunes, and offered prayers. After that, we went to Shibuya, where they enjoyed sushi at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, and then took photos of the Shibuya crossing from a coffee shop. Next, we went to Harajuku, and after offering prayers at Meiji Shrine, we visited Takeshita Street. They were delighted to eat bread with stretchy cheese and to see a mini-pig cafe. They mentioned that they would come again the next day. They told me they were glad to have had an enjoyable time even in the rain, which made me happy.

Title: What Is a Private Family Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting on a family trip, and they told me they come to Japan every year. They chose Kanazawa this time because it is relatively uncrowded and because they were looking for fresh fish, which they had built into their travel plans. The city met their expectations and they were very pleased. I had received advance notice that they wished to visit Myoryu-ji Temple, but on this particular day a memorial service was being held and no tours were running. Since their schedule had them staying in Kanazawa again the following day, I advised them to make a reservation on their own and join the tour the next day. (For the Myoryu-ji Temple tour, a guide is not permitted to make a proxy reservation when the guide does not accompany the guests.)

Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Onomichi Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The booking was made at short notice, and I was a little uneasy because my reply email came late, but I received a message on the morning of the tour and the guest arrived at the meeting point ten minutes early, which put me at ease. We had not been able to discuss anything beforehand, so I asked various questions there, and since it was the guest's first visit to Onomichi, I guided them along the standard course. As the guest had plenty of energy and walked quickly, I also added Misode Tenmangu Shrine and Daisan-ji Temple. It was the guest's first time in Japan, and I heard they had already visited Tokyo, Hakone, and Kyoto, and after Onomichi planned to go to Hiroshima City and Miyajima, then to Matsuyama and Kochi in Shikoku. For lunch I recommended Onomichi ramen. When I later learned the guest works in a healthcare-related field involving dietary guidance, I said, somewhat apologetically, that it might not be so good for the health… Nevertheless, they enjoyed the ramen, saying "Delicious!" as they ate. They were also very skilled with chopsticks, and when I asked, they said that they eat Japanese food in Oceania too, so they had bought chopsticks and practiced at home! It made me laugh. The guest listened attentively and reacted warmly to everything — the view from the Onomichi observation deck, the old townscape and the history and culture behind it, the Cat Alley (Neko no Hosomichi), and more. When I showed a photo of Senko-ji Temple with the cherry blossoms in full bloom, they were deeply moved. They were also interested in a cat we met along the way and took photos of it. They enjoyed experiences such as turning the large prayer beads and offering a prayer, making a sound at Tsuzumi-iwa Rock, and trying to lift the "power stone." At the healing Buddha statue, they rubbed the spot where they had scraped themselves falling off a bicycle the day before. Since the guest had cycled to Setoda the day before, I was able to connect my explanations to their next destinations — telling them that a large painting by the Setoda-born painter Ikuo Hirayama is displayed on the wall of the Peace Memorial Museum they would soon visit, that Hirayama was himself a survivor of the atomic bombing, and that the area is Japan's top producer of lemons, and so on. Because the guest works in a healthcare-related field, I shared many stories of people who came to Onomichi and healed their emotional wounds and regained their strength. In addition to Onomichi ramen, I recommended Yamaneko pudding for dessert, Onomichi-style okonomiyaki for dinner, and lemon cakes and bags made of canvas sailcloth as souvenirs. The guest said it was very enjoyable talking during the tour. I feel that I, too, was healed.

Hi! I am Kazuha from Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture. Please call me Kazu chan. I was a teacher for 37 years, and retired last year. After that, I traveled a lot, and met a guide who made my travel much more interesting than other travel. It has become a life-time memory. So I decided to be an interpreter guide to help foreign tourists. I would love to help you to make your travel more interesting and exciting!
I have guided Onomichi, and two World Cultural Heritage sites :Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and Miyajima. Onomichi is my hometown and the starting point for the Shimanami-kaido to Shikoku Island. It prospered from the 12th century to the 19th century, and was not bombed during the war. So we can still enjoy finding unique Japanese culture while walking. Let’s explore Hiroshima and make your travel special!
