What Is a Private Day Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from Europe. One of the guests had a very strong interest in Japanese shrines and temples, culture, and history. They had already finished sightseeing in Kyoto and shared with me a great deal of knowledge they had gained about Kyoto's history and its shrines and temples. It was the same in Nara, as they had done thorough research beforehand about Nara's history and the places we would visit. They took many photos of my explanatory materials and asked me many questions. I am sure it was a fulfilling day for them.

Title: What's a Private Family Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, Ginza, and Shibuya The guests were a group visiting from North America who had stopped in Asia before entering the Kansai region, touring Kyoto and other areas, and had arrived in Tokyo the previous day. They planned to head home in a couple of days. The guests had a background connected to music. In the pre-tour communication, they had mentioned bringing a stroller, but since they had managed to walk in Kyoto, we decided to proceed without one. The Marunouchi Line happened to be in the middle of the commuter rush, which understandably surprised the younger members of the group, but once we arrived in Asakusa, everyone walked energetically. At Nakamise, they enjoyed some strawberry daifuku. A hozuki (ground cherry) market happened to be taking place, and they watched it with great curiosity. From Ginza to Tsukiji, we walked while choosing shaded routes. Since only some of the guests eat raw fish, we had lunch nearby at a tempura restaurant. Some of the group still seemed full from the strawberry daifuku and did not eat much. Because the sunlight was strong at the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens, we kept to a minimal course. From the pre-arrangement stage, it had been decided that a full visit to Meiji Shrine would be physically demanding for some of the group, so I gave an overview of Meiji Shrine in front of the first torii gate and then guided them to Takeshita Street. Originally we were scheduled to part ways there, but as the group wished to see Shibuya, I guided them to Shibuya before we said goodbye. After browsing a few shops in Shibuya, they returned to the Hotel by taxi.

I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

My guide is starting from a brief history of the site where I am going to guide. I usually add a briefing about Japanese culture based on religions, such as Shinto Shrine and Buddhist temples. A geographic background behind the history is also important.
    My course includes 4 to 5 (in 6 hours) sites from the following depending on where I will pick the guests up;
    – Senso ji Temple
    – Kappabashi Kitchenware Market
    – Tokyo Skytree
    – Ueno Park
    – Nezu Shrine
    – Imperial Palace outer park
    – Tokyo Central Station, Marunouchi historic district
    – Tsukiji Fish Market
    – Koishikawa Korakuen Garden
    – Ginza
    – Odaiba
    – Hama Rikyu Garden
    – Shinjuku Gyoen Garden
    – Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
    – Roppongi
    – Meiji Shrine
    – Harajuku & Takeshita Street
    – Shibuya
    – and Any of your interest.

I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

I am also happy to develop any other site the guests have interest.

Title: What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like from Haneda Airport? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived at Haneda Airport at 5:00 in the early morning and traveled by car to their hotel. Despite the tight schedule of a 10:00 meeting right after finishing breakfast, they spent the whole day energetically. Although Mount Fuji was not visible, they thoroughly enjoyed the natural scenery of Owakudani and Lake Ashi, which was very different from where they come from in North America. They were impressed by the marquetry (yosegi-zaiku) presentation at a local shop and made their first purchase in Japan there right after arriving. They were fine with Japanese food and enjoyed soba noodles. At the Hakone Checkpoint, I talked about the shogun, the emperor, Edo, and Kyoto. We took photos near the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine, and the day came to an end. Since they would be staying the next day as well, I introduced the Hakone Open-Air Museum, and I also let the hotel staff know and asked them to provide support.

Title: What's a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report At the guests' request, the route was Shin-Yakushi-ji Temple, followed by the Negi-michi forest path, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Todai-ji Temple, and then by bus and train to Yakushi-ji Temple and Toshodai-ji Temple. I enjoyed the change of pace myself. Even for eyes that had seen many Buddhist statues in Kyoto, the Twelve Heavenly Generals at Shin-Yakushi-ji Temple seemed fresh and impressive. Even in this intense summer heat, the deep forest along the Negi-michi path was relatively cool, so it may be a good route for midsummer. When we stopped for lunch at a teahouse, it began to rain heavily. It let up for a while, but just as we were about to leave the Great Buddha Hall, the heavy rain returned. It was luckier than blazing sunshine. The guests all walked the long distances without any trouble, for which I am very grateful.

Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

What's a Private Full-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the East Gardens, Asakusa, Akihabara, and Ginza I arrived at the meeting-point hotel early, and it happened that the guests were having breakfast in the café space in the lobby, so we were able to meet about 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Since it was a relatively energetic group, I set a somewhat longer course overall. At the East Gardens, I took them all the way to the Honmaru area for the first time in a while, but as it was a very hot day, I made sure to stop at each rest area for a five-minute break. For lunch, they requested a certain type of food. As there was no issue with the ingredients, I had them enjoy a vegetable tempura set meal at a tempura restaurant in Asakusa. After Asakusa, I had planned to conclude the tour with a visit to Akihabara, but as it was a Sunday and extremely crowded, the guests hesitated to go into the shops, so we ended up with a little extra time at the end. Since they had wanted to go shopping in Ginza after the tour, I took them from Akihabara to Ginza, gave a brief explanation of the area, and we parted ways at the Ginza 4-chome intersection.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

What Does a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Meiji Shrine The guests were a cheerful group visiting from Oceania. Since it was winter in their home region, there had been some concern about the heat and humidity, but they had stopped in Asia before coming to Japan and were already accustomed to it. At Tsukiji, they looked at a variety of ingredients and knives, and in Asakusa they enjoyed browsing for souvenirs and sweets that interested each of them along Nakamise. Everyone also drew omikuji fortunes and had fun with it. After that, we had lunch at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant in Shibuya, and they said the rotating sushi was inexpensive and delicious. We took photos of the Shibuya crossing from Starbucks, and after visiting and praying at Meiji Shrine, we all had ice cream together before heading back. It was a very lively group, and I enjoyed it very much as well.

What Is a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, and the Imperial Palace After departing from the Hotel, I helped all the guests purchase SUICA cards at Shinjuku Station, and then we started the tour. At Meiji Shrine, the guests were very interested in explanations about Shinto and the Meiji Restoration. Since the guests had requested tonkatsu for lunch, I took them to a well-known tonkatsu restaurant in Omotesando. After that, we moved on to Asakusa, where we visited Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise Street, Senso-ji Temple, and the five-story pagoda. The guests listened with great interest to explanations about the differences between Buddhism and Shinto, and about how Japanese people naturally practice both religions together in daily life without any sense of conflict. At the final destination, the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, the guests attentively listened to explanations about the history of the Imperial family and the isolation policy under the Tokugawa shogunate. As the guests had a reservation at a restaurant in the Otemachi area at 17:00 for dinner, I timed the end of the tour accordingly and took them there exactly at 17:00, where we parted ways.

Can You Do a Private Family-Friendly Day Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Harajuku, and Shibuya [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private one-day tour of Tokyo for a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. It was the third day of their trip, and they planned to fly to Naha in Okinawa in a few days, stay there for about three days, and then continue on to Osaka and Kyoto. On the way to the Imperial Palace, I showed the group Tokyo Station from Gyoko-dori Avenue before heading to the Ote-mon Gate. Since one of the guests was feeling worn out by the heat and humidity even before we began strolling through the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, I chose a route that kept to shaded and cooler spots. We then made our way through Kiddy Land on Omotesando and Takeshita Street, and parted ways at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. The guests enjoyed a full day in Tokyo.

What Happens If Guests Are Late? A Kyoto Private Tour with Fushimi Inari, Reported by a Licensed Guide On the morning of the tour, the guests contacted me to say they would be about two hours late for the meeting time. The reason was that they had planned to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto by bullet train using a JR Pass, but they had not activated the pass, and they had also left their passport at the Hotel, which required additional time. Because of this same-day change, the hired car could only be used until 16:00, so we arranged to arrive at Fushimi Inari before that time. After that, the tour proceeded along the planned route on the condition that we would return to Kyoto Station before 18:00. We used the JR line from Fushimi Inari to Kyoto Station. Although the tour became somewhat rushed, the guests enjoyed themselves.

Can You Do a Private Group Day Tour of Kyoto from Kobe Port? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group visiting from North America. They arrived at Kobe Port by cruise ship at 8:00 on the day of the tour, and we had planned to meet at 11:00, allowing three hours for the journey to JR Kyoto Station. However, due to a mistake when purchasing tickets at Shin-Kobe Station for the bullet train, they missed their train, and their arrival at Kyoto Station was delayed by one hour to 12:00. After meeting up, the tour began, but with a large group, everyone had different wishes. In particular, after strolling through the Sagano bamboo grove, some wanted to go shopping in Gion, some wanted to enjoy food along Nishiki Market, some wanted to visit Fushimi Inari, and some were hungry — the requests varied greatly. The group leader became somewhat frustrated, and it was decided that everyone would spend the rest of the time on their own. As a result, the tour ended 30 minutes early.
