    Title: What's a Private Osaka Cruise-Port Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. They arrived at Osaka Port on the morning of the tour by cruise ship and were scheduled to depart in the evening for Kochi Port. One of the guests was very fond of Japan and was visiting for the third time, with a particular love for Osaka and looking forward most to eating takoyaki in Dotonbori. This guest had also been studying Japanese, so throughout the tour there were many questions about the language and history, with the whole group joining in. One of the goals of this tour was to purchase kitchen knives that the guests would be happy with, so I guided them to a long-established knife shop in the Doguyasuji district, where they achieved their goal and were delighted. After arriving in Dotonbori, we parted ways, and I entrusted the rest of the guiding to one of the guests.

    Title: What's a Private Edo and Tokugawa History Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group from North America who arrived in Tokyo by cruise ship. On an optional cruise-ship tour, they had visited central Tokyo two days earlier and Mount Fuji the previous day. Today, apart from a dahlia garden, they left the plans to me, so we did the Edo/Tokugawa-themed tour described above. At the Hotel and at Ueno Park before the dahlia garden opened, I gave an overview of Japanese history centered on the Edo (Tokugawa) period, as preparation for Toshogu Shrine, Nezu Shrine, and Koishikawa Korakuen Garden. They were captivated by the splendor of Toshogu Shrine and by the five-story pagoda that now stands alone and somewhat forlorn due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. They seemed to really enjoy the Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi area, occasionally losing sight of each other while taking photos of the buildings and alleyways. Since a proper dinner was planned for the evening, for lunch in the Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi area they sampled menchi-katsu, doughnuts, and sweet potato treats. I was a little concerned about the walking, but one of the guests managed the walk to the Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi area energetically. At Korakuen Garden they did seem a bit tired, but kept exclaiming "beautiful."

    What Is a Private Group Tour from a Cruise Ship Terminal Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America and Europe. In the morning at the cruise ship terminal, despite many passengers waiting, no taxis arrived even after waiting more than ten minutes, and since the group would have needed three taxis, I quickly changed the plan and switched to traveling by train. Although we were forced to alter the itinerary, there were no complaints from the guests, and in the end I was able to provide guiding that satisfied them, which was a relief.

    Title: What's a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe who had arrived in Japan the night before. They planned to stay in Japan for six days before continuing to another destination in Asia and then returning home. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private full-day tour of Tokyo for these guests. The Hotel is located next to a major office building, with its lobby on the 39th floor. Since it offers a full view of the Imperial Palace looking down, I spent about ten minutes explaining the Imperial Palace. Fridays are closed days for the grounds, but they mentioned they would visit the East Gardens tomorrow or the day after. They also planned to visit the Tokyo National Museum, and since they asked whether there were any art museums, I introduced the route to Ueno as well as the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and the National Museum of Western Art within Ueno Park. I handed them a Tokyo Travel Guide and gave an overview of other places as well. As they mentioned taking a day trip to Kyoto, I explained that while the Marunouchi Line is convenient, the station is within walking distance if they have little luggage. On Takeshita Street, they were surprised by the crowds and did not go inside. In the afternoon, as they appeared to have a meal reservation, they did not eat at Omoide Yokocho and returned by metro.

    I had worked in the international business scene for over 40 years and traveled to North America and European countries over 1000 days.
    After I retired from the business, I traveled to most of the major sightseeing spots in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

    I am happy to introduce Japanese Manga/Anime cultures such as Akihabara, Nakano Broadway and Ghibli related sites.
    Travelling along the JR central line where guests can stopover at major animation studios (it is not accepted to visit the inside). The majority of animation studios such as TMS Entertainment, SUNRISE, A1 Pictures etc. are located in this area. Suginami Animation museum, Studio Ghibli and Ghibli Museum are also located.
    Guests can feel old houses in the Spirited Away scene in the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.

    I can also provide a pilgrimage to the sacred place (shooting location) for the Shinkai Makoto animation movies such as Your name, Weathering with you, and Suzume.

    Another interesting feature is to visit authentic Japanese style pub meals such as Yakitori, Karaage, and Sushi etc.
    Asakusa Hoppy Street, Ameyoko Street, Yurakucho, Shimbashi, Shinjuku Golden gai, Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho are nice to visit.

    A Sake tasting at Sake Cellar can be an option.

    In addition to the above, I am available in the neighboring cities.

    Kawagoe is an old town developed in the 17th century. It has very close relationship with the Edo central government. Kawagoe castle ruins, Kitain temple and 500 Buddha statues will welcome the guests.
    These areas are renovated and provide an old days atmosphere.
    Japanese style sweets food stands will fascinate the guests.
    Kawagoe is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Kamakura is the first Samurai worriers government established in the late 12th century.
    The Buddhism are introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and flourished at Nara and Kyoto later. A newer Buddhism sect such as Zen has well developed at Kamakura area.
    Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Gigantic Buddha statue at Kotokuin Temple and the flower temple Hasedera Temple are must-see.
    Kamakura is about 1 – 1.5 train trip from Tokyo.

    Can You Do a Short Private Nara Tour from the Hotel? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests came from North America. When we met, the first questions I was asked were whether there would be a lot of walking and many stairs. I answered yes to both. Since some of the guests were tired from consecutive days of touring and had unsteady footing, part of the group stayed at the Hotel, and the rest went on the tour. Because of a knee condition and a planned surgery after returning home, there was a request to make today's Nara tour as short as possible. After discussing options, we visited only Nara Park and Todaiji Temple, and we finished 2 hours and 30 minutes earlier than scheduled.

    Title: What's a Private Osaka Cruise-Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, and Ikuno Koreatown The guests were a group visiting Japan from Oceania while sightseeing on a cruise (the number was changed from the original count to a slightly larger group). The advance discussion about which places to visit was carried out with the leader of the group. The final itinerary was confirmed as follows: Osaka Castle → Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi → Hozenji → Ikuno Koreatown. On the day of the tour, there had been a forecast of rain in the morning, so I headed to the meeting point prepared for it, but I was grateful that it stayed only a light drizzle. The guests joined me almost exactly on schedule in front of the "Giant Ferris Wheel" at the Port of Osaka. After a brief greeting and confirming the itinerary, we set off on the tour. All travel between the visit sites was done by subway or train. At the first stop, Osaka Castle, we looked out over the city of Osaka from the main keep, helping the guests grasp the geographical and historical characteristics of Osaka. In particular, I explained that Osaka lies at the midpoint between western and eastern Japan, and is also adjacent to the "ancient capitals" of Nara and Kyoto, and that as a major hub for the movement of people and goods, it has developed since ancient times as a "commercial city" and "industrial city." I also emphasized that Osaka Castle was a historical stage that brought an end to the long era of warfare known as the Sengoku period. At the second stop, Dotonbori, I touched on the Osakan temperament nurtured in the "commercial city of Osaka" (frank, unpretentious, and full of humor), and helped the guests understand how this is well reflected in the signs of Dotonbori. After lunch, we also stopped by the currently popular "Doguyasuji" tool street. Finally, we visited and explored "Ikuno Koreatown," which is also rooted in Osaka's unique history and culture. Japan and the Korean Peninsula have had a very deep cultural, economic, and historical relationship through exchanges since ancient times, and I helped the guests understand that Koreatown is an area that teaches us about the deep relationship between Japan and the Korean Peninsula that continues into the present day. The guests were all highly curious and full of a sense of humor, which made for a very enjoyable tour.

    Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Oceania. I first took the group to Shukkeien Garden, and afterward we had lunch at a bakery shop. At the Peace Memorial Park, since the museum was expected to be crowded with school excursion students, I took the guests to the memorial exhibit at Honkawa Elementary School and explained the atomic bomb damage in detail, and then we visited the museum. I felt that the guests were deeply saddened to learn that so many children had lost their lives. In the afternoon, I guided the group to Miyajima, and since the temperature was high and one of the guests was experiencing some discomfort while walking, I provided guidance while taking care to accommodate this.

    Hi! My name is Kazuhisa To. I was born in Nagasaki Prefecture and spent a total of approximately 17 years there. After graduating from university and completing graduate school, I moved to Hiroshima in 1984. Hiroshima has been my home base for more than 42 years, including approximately five and a half years during which I was posted to Germany and the United States. I worked as an engineer at Mazda Motor Corporation for 40 years. While working at Mazda, I earned a Ph.D. in Engineering through a doctoral program designed for working professionals at a national university. During the final five years of my career at Mazda, I was assigned to Hiroshima University, where I served as a Specially Appointed Professor and Deputy Director of a research center. In this role, I led the development of the center’s organizational and operational framework and advanced more than 20 industry–university collaborative research projects across four major research programs, contributing to regional revitalization. Living in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Germany, and the United States has deepened my appreciation for the distinct histories and cultures of different regions and broadened my international perspective. Drawing on these experiences, I strive to offer tours that allow guests from around the world to feel comfortable and relaxed while enjoying a genuinely engaging experience. After retiring from Mazda at the end of March 2024, I embarked on a new chapter in my life as a licensed local guide in Hiroshima. In addition to renowned destinations such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima, I am delighted to introduce guests to Hiroshima’s history, culture, natural beauty, local cuisine, and everyday life, tailoring each tour to their individual interests and preferences.     What Is a Private Hiroshima and Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe. I have visited their home region myself, so we enjoyed talking about many things together. With some of the guests, we talked a lot about football. I also introduced stories such as the one behind Hiroshima Andersen during the tour. As on the previous day, the tide was high, so on Miyajima I took the guests to Daishoin Temple before entering Itsukushima Shrine. In the afternoon, I took them to Shukkeien Garden and then to the Peace Memorial Park. At the Peace Memorial Park, the guests showed a strong interest in the damage caused by the atomic bomb, and being able to discuss peace and nuclear abolition in various ways was valuable for me as well.

    Title: What Is a Private Walking Tour of Takayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a lovely and close-knit group. As it was the day before the Takayama Festival, the town was a little busier than usual. The weather was fine, and the carp in the Miyagawa River were clearly visible. After the morning market, we headed to Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, and along the way, in front of the festival float storehouses, we were able to see the floats being prepared for the next day. The guests were delighted, saying that although they would miss the festival itself, they were lucky to see the floats up close. The buildings of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, which serves as one of the stages of the Takayama Festival, were decorated for the event, and the autumn leaves were beginning to change color, making for a beautiful scene. The guests also enjoyed the ramen they chose for lunch. One of the guests was looking for "Hada Labo" cosmetics, and was overjoyed to find Hada Labo products at the kiosk in front of the Jinya. The guests smiled throughout, and it was a wonderful group to guide.

    What's a Private Walking Tour of Kawagoe Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests came from Oceania and were very sturdy on their feet. Even though we walked all day, they showed no signs of fatigue, and by the end they were even climbing the stairs instead of using the escalator, which was a great help. Beforehand there had been only minimal contact through the agency, but we met successfully at Kawagoe Station. On the bus we confirmed the day's destinations and whether they wanted lunch (they did not) before starting. At Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine, they were delighted to see many families visiting for baby blessings and children celebrating Shichi-Go-San. This shrine is also nice because, unlike those in central Tokyo, it offers many kinds of experiences. They enjoyed the paper figure ritual, walking the figure-eight around the sacred tree, the ema tunnel, and the fortune-slip fishing. Since this shrine is at the center of the Kawagoe Festival held that weekend, it was a good lead-in to the video shown afterward at the festival museum. At Honmaru Goten, they were able to walk through a traditional Japanese house, and they were very fond of the unique atmosphere of the Kurazukuri warehouse district. I was glad to get a laugh with stories about "udatsu" and "kagemori" and how they relate to money. At the festival museum, it was a shame that the staff's explanations were nonstop, so we couldn't look around calmly (this was not the case before). On the other hand, I was surprised that one guest was admitted free per licensed guide (this too was not the case before). It's a bit of a walk from the Kurazukuri district to Kitain Temple, but they enjoyed the traditional buildings here and there and the quiet atmosphere of the ordinary residential area. At the same time, since there were nothing but famous eel restaurants, it was amusing how they gradually grew interested while laughing, "Eel again." At Kitain, rather than the Japanese building itself, the garden viewed from it was wonderful, and they took photos. Today I arranged the tour so that we walked downhill from Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine to Kawagoe Station, so we were almost always on foot, but during that time we were able to talk about many things, making it a very enjoyable day. Because of that, there were places I had intended to show that we ended up passing by, but since there was no need to force it, I decided that was fine as it was. I ended the guiding once at Dorobobashi and checked what they would like to do, and since they wanted to go to Kawagoe Station, I accompanied them. This also takes about 30 minutes on foot, but as we looked at the shopping mall and I asked about their plans for the coming days, we arrived at Kawagoe Station surprisingly quickly. Having heard a funny story that, just after arriving in Japan, they had boarded a Yamanote Line train in the wrong direction and gone all the way around, taking 40 minutes to reach their destination, I said in front of the Tobu Line ticket gate, "Please take the express on Platform 1; if you take Platform 2 you'll end up in the countryside and never come back," which made the guests laugh out loud.
