    Title: What's a Rainy-Day Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, Nijo Castle, and Nanzen-ji The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. The tour was scheduled to start at 8:00, but the guests suggested meeting at Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, so we adjusted the start to 9:00 to match the temple's opening. The guests arrived a little late, and we started the tour in unfortunate rain. Otagi Nenbutsu-ji is becoming increasingly popular, and many international visitors were lined up even before the gate opened. Next, we went to Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, though the rain made the footing a concern throughout the tour. For lunch, we stopped at a ramen shop near Nijo Castle, and fortunately the guests were able to get seats. A long line formed outside the shop shortly afterward. They seemed to enjoy the flavor of the ramen, which was a relief. After visiting the Ninomaru Palace at Nijo Castle, the rain stopped and walking became easier. At Nanzen-ji, the sky even cleared and the autumn foliage was magnificent, so the guests took many photos. Since the rain had continued, we discussed and took a taxi from Adashino Nenbutsu-ji to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. The photo was taken in the garden of the Ninomaru Palace at Nijo Castle.

    What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like on a Rainy Autumn Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America and were on about their fourth day in Japan. They had entered the country via Tokyo and were traveling mainly around Tokyo and Kyoto during a holiday period, focusing their trip on just these two cities. Since a light rain was falling from the start, I encouraged the guests to borrow umbrellas from their hotel before we set off. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, there were many tourists with umbrellas, and the line through the torii gates often came to a standstill. There was no line at the Omokaru-ishi (weight-testing stone), so both guests gave it a try. It was still raining when we arrived in Arashiyama, but the autumn foliage of Arashiyama, partly veiled in clouds here and there, had a charm and beauty different from usual, and the guests were delighted. In Arashiyama, we strolled around the Togetsukyo Bridge, the Kimono Forest, Tenryu-ji Temple, and the bamboo grove. By the time we reached Kinkaku-ji, the rain had almost stopped, and the golden pavilion reflected beautifully on the Kyoko-chi pond. Throughout the tour, the autumn foliage was beautiful at every site. Because the guests walked quite fast and were not the type to spend much time at each spot, about one hour of tour time remained by the time we finished at Kinkaku-ji. When I asked whether there was anywhere else they would like to go next, they said there was nowhere in particular. Instead, as they had become hungry, they asked me to recommend a place serving tantanmen, so I guided them to a shop near Kinkaku-ji. Finding that the shop accepted cash only and that they had little cash on hand, they asked me to show them somewhere with an ATM, so I took them to a nearby convenience store, and we parted ways there.

    What Is a 6-Hour Private Walking Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America. There had been some concern beforehand about whether the full 6-hour walking tour could be completed, and while touring Nijo Castle, some of the guests began to tire, so after leaving the Ninomaru Palace we skipped the garden stroll and headed to Nishiki Market. As soon as they saw the food, they regained their energy, and after enjoying street food at three shops, we proceeded to Fushimi Inari Shrine as planned. We took two short breaks along the way and completed the planned itinerary. One of the guests was interested in the history of Kyoto and asked many questions. Everyone did very well with all the walking. From Fushimi Inari, the guests caught a taxi and returned to their Hotel.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Tour of Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, and Takeshita Street Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. Part of the group had just arrived the day before, so I explained things such as how to use the subway. In Asakusa, they enjoyed eating ningyo-yaki along Nakamise and drawing omikuji fortunes. Some of the guests were interested in topics such as Buddhism and Shinto. Afterward, we visited Meiji Shrine, where we were able to see people celebrating Shichi-Go-San and first shrine visits. We then went to Takeshita Street. Some of the guests bought traditional sweets at Daiso and skincare products at Matsukiyo, while others enjoyed snacks and looked at mini pigs. Some of the guests had apparently been in this area the day before as well and did not particularly enjoy crowded places, so they seemed quite tired. After leaving Takeshita Street, I guided them to a vintage shop that some of the guests had wanted to visit, and since they planned to continue enjoying the day on their own, we ended the tour there. It was a wonderful day with very nice weather.

    Can You Do a Private Day Trip to Hakone from Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report The guest was a visitor from North America, traveling in Japan. The guest was on a three-day trip to see the sights of Hakone. Under clear skies, the views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi were excellent, and the guest seemed very satisfied. Since the guest had a Hakone Free Pass, I suggested routes covered by the pass as much as possible. Our loop route ran Gora – Lake Ashi (Hakonemachi Port – Moto-Hakone Port – Togendai – Owakudani – Sounzan – Hakone Open-Air Museum). Departing the hotel at 9:00, we managed to stay a step ahead of the crowds. The view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from Onshi Hakone Park was wonderful. On the pirate ship, we were able to relax and enjoy the scenery from the deck seats. At Owakudani, the guest was very interested in the black eggs. At this point, the guest mentioned it would be better to head from Sounzan to Gora, so we moved to Gora. We then visited the Hakone Open-Air Museum, where the guest took time to look at Tetsuya Noguchi's "A Dream Seen Wearing Armor." We had lunch at the restaurant inside the museum, where the curry rice was well received. The guest said, "I'm staying in Hakone for two more days. It was great to learn about the sightseeing spots."

    Title: What Is a 4-Hour Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Shinjuku and Asakusa The guests were staying at a private lodging near Takadanobaba Station, and in their advance email they requested Shinjuku Station as the meeting point. Thinking it would be an easy-to-spot landmark, I suggested the lion statue at the East Exit as our meeting place. Fortunately it was after rush hour, so we were able to meet up easily. The guests were a group visiting from North America, and everyone was sociable, making it a tour full of lively conversation. It was a packed course covering three locations in four hours, but since we were able to start directly from Shinjuku Station, we had time to spare, and in Asakusa I was even able to guide them all the way to the western approach. We ended the tour once we returned to Kaminarimon Gate.

    I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
    I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
    One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.

Some of the guests had visited Japan a few years earlier and were able to use simple Japanese words and phrases. Another member of the group had been learning Japanese from within the group and could read katakana. Hie Shrine was among the spots they had hoped to visit, but during a site check the day before, I found that it was partially under construction, so I guided them to Nezu Shrine instead, and this decision worked out very well. In particular, the guests especially enjoyed the contrast between the lively atmosphere of Tsukiji and the quiet calm of Nezu Shrine. There was a request for recommendations of places to have a casual meal in Ginza, which was close to the Hotel, so in Ginza we took a wide walking route that included Higashi-Ginza with its Kabukiza Theatre, and I also took them to the back streets lined with izakaya and other eateries. After showing them around Ginza thoroughly, I walked them back to the Hotel and we parted ways there.

    Title: Can You Do a Private Day Tour of Asakusa and Tokyo Station? A Licensed Guide's Report Almost at the same moment I arrived at the meeting-point Hotel, the guests came down to the lobby, so we were able to meet up 20 minutes ahead of schedule. The guests were from Oceania, and while at times the English of one of them was a little difficult to catch, the English of the other was easy to understand, so we were able to communicate reasonably well. The tempura restaurant "Sandaya," which I often use for lunch in Asakusa, is closed on Thursdays, so on this day I took the guests to the soba restaurant "Owariya." Since Owariya does not accept credit cards, there are cases where guests decline, but this time the guests kindly agreed to pay in cash, which was a great help. After the tour, the guests wished to activate their Japan Rail Pass and purchase Shinkansen tickets, so I guided them to Tokyo Station at the end before we parted ways.

    # What Is a Private Full-Day Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe, though they spoke very clear, easy-to-understand English. After they purchased a PASMO card at Shimbashi Station, we set off for our destinations. The weather was beautiful, making it a perfect day for taking photos. Yoyogi Park is not a spot I usually guide, but one of the guests, who has a love of nature, found the trees in the park quite interesting. Just as with the maple leaves at Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the ginkgo trees at Yoyogi Park also seemed to be well liked. For lunch, I chose a soba restaurant inside Mark City. Since it was past peak dining time, I think the guests were able to relax and enjoy their meal. As the guests seemed to want to stay in Shinjuku after the tour, we parted ways in Kabukicho.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Family Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The itinerary, meeting place, and time were not finalized until just before the tour, which caused some initial uncertainty. I gave the guests a letter set as a small gift. By centering the tour on conversation and keeping things lively with a friendly, lighthearted tone, I was able to interact with the group warmly and with plenty of smiles. As a result, the group was most delighted when I guided them to Character Street at Tokyo Station Ichibangai for character goods, and to Harajuku for the Harry Potter-related sights the group had been hoping to see.

    Who am I?
    I am a Licensed Guide Interpreter at an age of 61.
    I got an early retirement from 36 yrs of the employment in a Japanese financial sector.
    I hope I can attend to you with the Japanese politeness, hospitality and smile.

    What can I be expected?
    I would like to introduce the photogenic sites, the indigenous experiences
    and good Japanese local food around Tokyo, Hakone/Mt Fuji.
    I might be able to show you the features of shrine and temple with a religious manner if you’d like.
    As a matter of fact, I don’t have a specific religion to believe, though.
    I love Japan and that’s why I started a new career as a guide.

    What do I love?
    Most of all, my family. I have a wife 56 yrs old, a son 28 yrs old and a daughter 25 yrs old.
    I like eating raw fish and sushi, buckwheat noodles and curry rice.

    How do I spend my spare time?
    I run for 5 km in the morning listening to my favorite music.
    I might have a chance to go to a studio program in the fitness club nearby once a week.
