What Does a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Gotokuji, Ginza, Tsukiji, and Asakusa The guests were visitors from South America, visiting Japan for the first time. I explained how to ride the trains, the railway lines, and popular destinations, then confirmed the day's itinerary before setting off. We first visited Gotokuji Temple. One of the guests commented that they enjoyed the quiet residential atmosphere between Miyanosaka Station and Gotokuji Temple. We then moved to Ginza, walked through the district, and continued on to Tsukiji while I explained the area. We toured the Tsukiji Outer Market. For lunch, rather than eating within the outer market, we went a little further to a sushi restaurant a short distance away and had a nigiri sushi set (standing-style dining). The guests commented, "Very delicious. Fresh. It's great because it's not overly touristy." We then moved to Asakusa. First, we enjoyed the view from the 8th floor of the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center and took a break at the cafe. One of the guests commented, "What a wonderful view." After that, we walked to Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise, Sensoji Temple, and Asakusa Shrine. The weather was fine, and the guests took many photos and videos. One of the guests commented, "Asakusa was the best." Since the guests would be staying in Tokyo for about a week, I recommended Tokyo Station, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and the Harry Potter shop in Harajuku.

English / Guide in English and German / Guiding areas are in Tokyo, Yokohama and my home town Okayama. (Since I’m based in Tokyo, I might not be able to guide in Okayama, depending on the timing.) My profile in German follows!
First of all, thank you very much for your taking time to have a look at my profile. My name is Naoki Shimono. Naoki would be fine. I’m a certified tour guide in English and German. After long years of work at Japanese electronics manufacturer, always in charge of international marketing, I’m focusing on tour guide and interpreter. As of now, I did tour guide more than 50 times in English and more than 50 times in German. Not only in Tokyo but also other cities, such as Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hakodate, Niigata, Shimizu, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Naha etc. It is always a big pleasure for me to show around Japan to guests from abroad. I’m looking forward to seeing you in Japan!

Title: What Can You See on a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour of Asakusa and Kappabashi? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. On this day, the third day after arriving in Japan, we headed toward Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. When I suggested walking through the Kappabashi Kitchenware Street on the way to Senso-ji, they said they wanted to experience many things, so we browsed shops selling tableware and kitchen knives before continuing on to Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. While exploring Senso-ji, I suggested "fugu" (pufferfish) for lunch, and they were eager to try it, so we visited a pufferfish restaurant with 120 years of history. They enjoyed fugu at a reasonable price, and also savored hire-zake, a warm sake infused with grilled pufferfish fin, experiencing Japanese food culture firsthand.

What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived from North America the day before. We first went to Tsukiji, where they enjoyed tuna nigiri sushi and grilled wagyu skewers. After that, we visited Sensoji Temple, and they remarked that the buildings and the grounds were very beautiful. We then went to Shibuya, where they purchased a Welcome Suica, and I was asked to take a photo of them at the Hachiko statue, so I did. We crossed the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing and enjoyed taking photos there. They said Meiji Shrine was very beautiful, and they purchased some souvenirs, including gifts for their family. I took them to Takeshita Street and showed them where to have lunch. As they planned to walk along Takeshita Street on their own and return to their accommodation afterward, I brought them as far as a ramen restaurant on Takeshita Street and ended the tour there. The weather was very nice, and I believe they had an enjoyable time.

What Does a Private Tokyo Day Tour Covering Asakusa, Akihabara, and Tokyo Tower Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America. They had arrived only the day before, and with jet lag, some of the group seemed quite tired. They said the buildings at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa were beautiful. In Akihabara, they wanted to see technology, so we went to Yodobashi Camera and looked at various electronic appliances. Since one of the guests was interested in figures, we visited Radio Kaikan to see figures. After that, we went to Tokyo Tower. They had booked tickets for the Top Deck Tour, but as one of the group felt dizzy, we had a light meal at the food court and only visited the Main Deck. It was at dusk, and we were fortunate to be able to see Mount Fuji. Afterward, we returned to the Hotel and ended the tour. Although the physical condition of one of the guests was not very good, I was glad that we were able to finish the tour safely.

Takayama Local Food & Sake Culture Tour

    Tour Itinerary

What Is a Private Walking Tour of Takayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe on their first trip to Japan. As arranged beforehand, I guided them on a relaxed stroll through the main sightseeing spots of Takayama. Everything they saw seemed fresh and new to them, and during the walk they lingered at shops they liked and even stopped by unplanned places such as the Kusakabe Folk Museum. They thoroughly enjoyed Hida-Takayama, which was at the peak of its autumn foliage season, before heading home. The sake brewery tour seemed to be their favorite, and at the tasting corner the guests enjoyed the all-you-can-drink sake and also purchased some as a souvenir.

Since I completely retired from my position at a railway company and started being involved in the tour guide interpreter business, I have experienced almost all types of guiding through FIT, Long Group Tours, Cruises (Shore Excursions), Incentive Tours, Special Interest Tours (Railway Travel, Pilgrimages), Familiarization Tours (Sales Promotion Tours) etc.
However, I noticed that I am not fully satisfied to only be a general guide who just manages a tour itinerary provided by tour agents/clients.
High-end guests have sometimes requested me to answer some enquiries that are actually challenging to answer for Japanese nationals. However, I appreciated those because they provided such a challenge and I felt that they wanted to understand my sense of beauty/values as a guide concerning a new culture for them.
Every time I host my guest I do my best to prepare the most appropriate information based on three travel elements (appetite, logistics, accommodation). Nevertheless, I decided to aim for higher guiding skills after I was motivated by senior guides whose guiding strategies and gestures were particularly impressive.

Title: What Does a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who were scheduled to depart the next day on a cruise, visiting Osaka and then traveling around East Asia. The itinerary had been proposed in advance based on the guests' requests, but when I confirmed the plan in the morning, I found that they had booked TeamLab Planets in Toyosu (15:00-15:30) rather than Azabudai Hills, so after discussing it together, we decided to head there by taxi from Meiji Shrine. At the Tsukiji Market, the guests very much enjoyed items such as grilled oysters. At the Kiyosumi Garden, the atmosphere changed completely, and the guests were delighted by the quiet garden, after which they enjoyed lunch in Omotesando. We walked to Meiji Shrine, but since one of the guests became tired, we rested on a bench for a while before they headed to Toyosu by taxi.

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting the Japan Guide Association to request a licensed guide for your upcoming visit to Japan. My name is Motoko Tanaka. I’m so happy to be assigned to you.
Let me introduce myself. I was born and raised in Tokyo, so it is nice to hear that you are excited about your visit to this wonderful city. There is much to be excited about here in Tokyo. I have really enjoyed guiding in Tokyo and the surrounding areas for more than 10 years.
I live with my husband and a dog named Alice. She was a rescue dog and I adopted her about 4 years ago. Now she is a very precious family member. I have two daughters, the elder one has a child and the younger has a aroma shop in a town near Mr. Fuji. I sometimes visit there with Alice.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to create a special day.

Title: Can You Do a Private Bus Tour of Kyoto's Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, and Bamboo Grove in One Day? A Licensed Guide's Report Today's guests were a group of eleven visiting from North America. They had requested the five locations listed above, but I felt it would be difficult to cover all five by bus within six hours. In advance, I had asked the bus company about a possible one-hour extension and the associated extension fee, and I had also informed the driver of this possibility. However, travel by bus took longer than expected, and by the time we arrived at Kinkaku-ji, it seemed unlikely that we would finish even with a one-hour extension. A two-hour extension would have placed a greater financial burden on the guests. When we entered the Sagano-Arashiyama area, I had the bus drop us off just before the Monkey Park and sent the bus back from there. I guided the guests through the Monkey Park and the Sagano Bamboo Grove, and then took them to Kyoto Station by JR train. The bus tour concluded within six hours, no extension fee was incurred, and the guests were very pleased.

Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Autumn Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The itinerary they proposed on the day was completely different from the one arranged in advance, so I guided them according to that. The new itinerary was based on the autumn foliage information posted at the hotel reception. The autumn colors were still not at their peak, but there were spots that had turned red here and there, so I think we were able to take some good photos. When trying to find a place for lunch, I called around and everywhere said they were full, but Gontaro in Okazaki, which had said it was fully booked, turned out to be quite empty when we arrived, which was a relief. Fushimi Inari was also among the places they wished to visit, but there was not enough time, and since they had a restaurant reservation in Kiyamachi at 18:30, I took them to Yasaka Shrine and Gion before we parted ways.

I’m Ryoichi Kazuma and my nickname is “Kazz”. I live in Kyotanabe city next to Kyoto city. I want guests to enjoy Kyoto by seeing and experiencing not only from outside but also from inside. I offer various information from daily matters to traditional cultures. Most destinations in Kyoto are located on the eastern side or the western side. As I want to guide guests to as many destinations as possible, I make an efficient itinerary and recommend a taxi use to save time. Additionally, I take pictures at various spots and finally share the link to my storage. By doing so, guests can download their favorite pictures from my storage. Please enjoy Kyoto night and day!

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Restaurant Support and Miyajima Tips The guests visited Japan from Europe. On the morning before the tour, the group requested a restaurant recommendation, as they wished to enjoy teppanyaki in Hiroshima on the evening after the tour. I immediately suggested a restaurant near their accommodation and replied that I would be happy to make a reservation for them if they liked. Shortly afterward, they responded that there was no problem, as a reservation had already been made a couple of days earlier. However, on the evening before the tour, the guests contacted me saying that, despite having received a reservation confirmation, the restaurant had told them the booking could not be honored, and they asked for help. I checked with the restaurant several times, but they said no confirmation had been issued to the guests, which led to some trouble. I explained to the guests that there had been a miscommunication within the restaurant (though I suspect there may have been a misunderstanding on the guests' side), and they accepted the explanation. In the end, I recommended a different restaurant to the guests, and by the morning of the tour their frustration had subsided, and they joined the tour in good spirits. As they mentioned they would be sightseeing on Miyajima on their own the following day without a guide, I provided them with various information. I remain a little concerned about whether they enjoyed the restaurant I recommended, but since there have been no complaints so far, I believe everything went well.

Hi! My name is Kazuhisa To. After completing graduate school, I moved to Hiroshima—and have now lived here for over 42 years. I earned a Ph.D. through a national university’s professional program while working at Mazda Motor Corporation. Five years before retiring from the company, I was seconded to Hiroshima University, a national university, where I served as a specially appointed professor. In addition to my domestic career, I spent a total of about five and a half years living and working abroad. These international experiences have given me valuable cross-cultural understanding and the ability to connect comfortably with guests from around the world. Currently, as a Hiroshima Prefectural Government Licensed Guide Interpreter, I introduce visitors not only to famous attractions such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima, but also to the local lifestyle, culture, and culinary delights, tailored to your interests. I hope to provide each guest with a memorable experience that stays in your heart.
I look forward to meeting you here in Hiroshima!

What Is a Half-Day Private Peace Memorial Tour in Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who had a strong interest in the atomic bombing and its history, so I also took them to a peace memorial museum at a former elementary school. Since the main Peace Memorial Museum tends to get crowded, I decided to give more detailed explanations at the elementary school peace museum whenever possible. One of the guests was a big fan of a Major League Baseball team, which had recently won the World Series, so the conversation was lively. Another of the guests had originally come from Europe and had traveled all over the world, sharing many stories that I found very educational as well. The weather was perfect for sightseeing that day, and the guests seemed very satisfied with the half-day tour.
