Tochigi in One Day: Lake Chuzenji & Shinkyo Bridge

    Tour Itinerary

    • 13:00 Rinnoji Temple
    • 13:35 Shinkyo Bridge
    • 14:00 Disband in front of Tobu Nikko Station

What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The weather was good and the tour proceeded smoothly. The guests mentioned feeling cold as early as when we were taking photos at Lake Chuzenji, and they bought neck warmers and hats at the shop by Kegon Falls. It was a pity that the main flow of water at Kegon Falls was low. After a break, we visited Toshogu Shrine, but the guests did not seem very interested and kept moving ahead, asking where we would go next, so we went around quite quickly. They took plenty of photos and enjoyed doing so. They also took many photos at the exterior of Rinnoji Temple and at Shinkyo Bridge, and had a good time. In front of Tobu Nikko Station, the guests said they were going to a convenience store next, so with their agreement we ended the tour there. A tip was received.

My name is Eiji Kobayashi (Mr.), and I will be your guide during your stay in Tokyo.
    Please call me Koba.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter of Japan and an expert in Japanese history and culture, and also in nursing and health. I usually work as a Public Health Nurse (PHN) at a Public Health Center in Tokyo, and I hold a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Additionally, I have a Ph.D. in medical science.
Born in 1957 and raised in Tokyo, I have worked for 33 years mainly in the research and development area for some pharmaceutical companies. Then, I changed my career to nursing and entered a university to obtain a PHN and RN license. I took the Licensed Guide for preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and volunteered in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021.

Title: What Is a Private Mount Fuji Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a very bright and friendly group. From start to finish, the car was filled with laughter throughout the day. A magnificent view of Mount Fuji stayed with us all day long, and the guests were extremely satisfied. Although we could only go up to the fourth station of Mount Fuji, the guests were able to touch snow that they cannot experience on the flatlands of their home region, and they even tried a playful snowball fight. At lunchtime, I explained kanji characters, which sparked a great deal of interest. Because I was explaining so loudly, the staff of the restaurant asked me to keep it down a little. At a shrine, I gave a basic introduction to Shinto and Buddhism.

I am Hiroki Morikawa :Hiro:, English guide living with my wife ,just a hop skip and jump from Hakone, Kamakura, Tokyo and the Mt. Fuji.
I am a friendly grandfather of 4 grandchildren.
I would love to help you enjoy Japan, using my 3 strong points.
First: I am used to dealing with any kind of matters. I have experienced various situations in the 40 years of my working life.
Second: I am good at making a friendly atmosphere between you and local people to help you enjoy Japan. I was raised in western Japan, studied in northern Japan and now live in central Japan. So I know various local cultures and dialects to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Third: I can explain things from a technical point of view.
For example, how the Great Buddha was constructed, because I am a master of engineering graduated from Hokkaido University.
Please enjoy Japan with me. See you soon!!

What Is a Private Arashiyama Walking Tour in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The group walked at a fairly relaxed pace and often stopped to take videos and photos along the way, so we fell significantly behind the planned schedule. As a result, we ended up not visiting Nonomiya Shrine, but since the guests were quite tired toward the end, I think this worked out well. The guests were very cooperative and not demanding at all, which made them very easy to guide. After the tour, the guests mentioned they wanted to have a meal in Arashiyama, and we exchanged many messages about making a reservation. However, in the end they said they were not particular about the meal. I had searched desperately for somewhere that could take a reservation during this busy season, so it felt like wasted effort and was a little disappointing. It would be helpful if recommended lunch spots could be shared. I believe the guests were generally pleased. Thank you very much for all your support.

Hello. Thank you for your interest in Japan. I am a guide in Kansai area, the west part of Japan. There are many World Heritage sites in the west area. If you are interested in Japanese history and traditional culture, Kyoto and Nara are the two best places to visit. There are many temples. Osaka has many recreational places. Hyogo prefecture has one of the greatest castles in Japan called Himeji Castle and sake breweries. Hiroshima is famous for the Peace Memorial Park and a beautiful shrine. Also, you can taste different Japanese cuisines in each place. l will be very happy to guide families, couples, and solo travelers. I love children. I’ll do my best to make your time here unforgettable.

What Is a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Takeshita Street, and Shibuya We met at the Hotel at 9:00. The guests were a group visiting Japan. They had only just arrived the night before, yet they showed no signs of fatigue and walked around energetically. At Meiji Shrine, they asked quite detailed questions about Shinto and related topics. A wedding ceremony happened to be in progress, and they were delighted to witness a traditional Shinto wedding. They were amazed at how crowded Takeshita Street was. Coming from Europe, they said they had never seen so many people, and they were even more surprised by the crowds in Shibuya. They wanted to eat sushi, but the first restaurant I suggested was over their budget, so we had lunch at a ramen shop on Miyamasuzaka. They were very satisfied.

I am certified as a Top Guide by the JGA.
Drawing on my past experience as a guide, where I have consistently received positive feedback from guests, I will focus on the following key points in my guiding:
Explain the historical transition from Edo to Tokyo through engaging episodes and stories.
Offer a cross-cultural perspective on why concepts such as honji suijaku (the idea of local deities being manifestations of Buddhist figures), as seen at places like Meiji Shrine, represent a worldview that Japan can be proud of.
Provide warm and humorous interaction, incorporating the spirit of hospitality I learned while studying at Columbia University in the United States.
Use my experience working at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to explain Tokyo’s present-day situation with the support of statistical data.

What's a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like on a Rainy Spring Day? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe who planned to stay in Japan for a while. Since I had asked in advance about the spots they wished to visit, I guided them accordingly. During the first half of the day we were hit by cold rain, which made guiding challenging, but the guests did not seem bothered and appeared to enjoy themselves. For lunch, I took them to a yakitori restaurant in the basement of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, which they seemed to like very much, telling me it was delicious. Afterward the rain cleared, and at Ueno Park some of the cherry blossoms were in bloom, so I believe they were satisfied.

I have been an English guide in Tokyo area since January 2017.
Tokyo is a wonderful city, and you may enjoy this city by yourselves.
Even so, I recommend you go around with a guide, especially if it is your first time visit to Tokyo.
A good guide will help you to understand about Tokyo and Japan as well as how to use convenient but complicated public transportations more effectively.
I am glad if I can help you to make your tour more enjoyable.
I am looking forward to meeting you in Tokyo soon!

    • 13:45 Disband @ Dotonbori Udon Restaurant

What Can You See on a Private One-Day Osaka Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle, Shitennoji, and Dotonbori The guests were visitors from Europe who booked through a travel agency. The itinerary had been decided by the guests according to their wishes (they mentioned they had consulted an AI), and originally included Osaka Castle, Nakazakicho, and Dotonbori, but when we spoke before the tour, Nakazakicho was changed to Shitennoji Temple. March 21 is the memorial day of Kobo Daishi Kukai, and a fair was being held at Shitennoji Temple, so the guests enjoyed mingling with the crowds who had gathered to pray, and browsing the many varied stalls in the temple grounds, including food stands and antiques. At Dotonbori, they were delighted by the contrast between the bustle of Dotonbori Street and the tranquility around Hozenji Temple. After the tour, at a udon restaurant we visited together, they were impressed by the flavor of kitsune udon and purchased the restaurant's specialty sansho pepper. Along with the sake flask, sake cups, dried persimmons, and pickled plums they had bought at the fair, they were pleased to have gathered a collection of memorable souvenirs.

Title: What's a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. It was an unusual format in which we met at a hotel in Hiroshima, I took them to a restaurant I had recommended and reserved in advance, and we parted ways there. Photography was a hobby of the guests, and they seemed to fully enjoy taking pictures on Miyajima. They were looking forward to showing the photos they took in Japan to the people around them after returning home. Having arrived in Hiroshima the previous day, the guests enjoyed dinner at Okonomimura, and on the day of the Miyajima tour, instead of having breakfast, they took a taxi to Shukkeien Garden before the tour started and bought some light snacks for breakfast at a convenience store. The guests were remarkably active, which surprised me. At Itsukushima Shrine, the line to receive a goshuin (temple seal) was too long, so we had to give up, but at Daishoin Temple they were able to get a goshuin and were delighted. They also enjoyed exploring various parts of Daishoin Temple, and I was relieved that we managed to make it in time for the reservation at a sushi restaurant housed in a traditional old house.

What Is a Private Kanazawa Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America. Today, being the middle day of a three-day weekend and with two cruise ships arriving at Kanazawa Port, the buses were very crowded, so after consulting with the guests we decided to travel entirely by taxi. Some of the guests were interested in traditional crafts, so they enjoyed shopping for items such as Kutani ware and gold-leaf chopsticks in the Higashi Chaya district. After visiting Kenrokuen Garden, they wished to have a relaxed lunch, so I arranged a restaurant. We then moved to the Nagamachi area and visited the garden of the Kanazawa Craft Academy and the Takada House. Afterwards, since they wanted to buy Pokémon souvenirs, I guided them to the location of the Pokémon Center in the Forus building near Kanazawa Station, ending the tour. The guests enjoyed the tour.

What Is a Private Walking and Taxi Tour of Osaka Minami Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests arrived in Japan from Oceania the previous evening. Based on their preferences gathered in advance, we toured their requested sightseeing spots by taxi and on foot. Today was a three-day holiday weekend during the spring equinox, so both Shitennoji Temple and the Namba area were extremely crowded, but the guests seemed to fully enjoy the lively atmosphere of Osaka Minami. In particular, Keitakuen Garden, which they had specifically requested, was quiet, and they were able to enjoy a relaxed stroll there, which appeared to be their favorite. Since they walked energetically without stopping for breaks or shopping along the way, we arrived at the final destination, Daimaru Department Store, slightly ahead of schedule. I guided them to the food court in the basement, and we parted ways there.

They were traveling in Japan and had already visited Hokkaido, Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone, and Kanazawa before this day. Today's tour was a 4-hour course. We departed from a hotel in East Ginza and walked to Hamarikyu Gardens. Inside the garden, I explained the garden culture and history of the Edo period, and the guests enjoyed a relaxed sightseeing experience. After that, we walked to Shimbashi Station and took the Ginza Line subway to Asakusa. In Asakusa, I guided them through Kaminarimon, Nakamise-dori, and Senso-ji Temple, and along the Sumida River we viewed the Asahi Breweries headquarters building and the cherry blossom scenery. The cherry blossoms were just beginning to bloom, but the guests seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of spring in Japan. Next, we transferred subway lines and strolled from Otemachi to Sakuradamon. I explained the history of the former Edo Castle and the present-day Imperial Palace, and we took a commemorative photo in front of Nijubashi Bridge. After that, we returned by subway to the hotel in East Ginza, and the tour concluded. Since all transportation today was by subway, it was a little unfortunate that there were fewer opportunities to view the scenery above ground, but the guests showed a strong interest in sightseeing and appeared satisfied overall.

    Self-Background

During my university years, I lived in a dormitory for four years and had the opportunity to live with many international students.
    Of course, we spoke English.
After graduating from university, I started working as an English teacher at a junior high school.
I was able to have a fun teaching life while interacting with many students. During that time, I continued to study English on my own and obtained the pre-1st grade English proficiency test.
After that, I worked for the Board of Education as a supervisor in charge of English education, and then managed a school as a vice principal, and later principal.
After retiring from teaching, I took the TOEIC (L&R) and achieved my highest score of 945.
I also obtained a license as a national guide-interpreter, and began working as a guide for overseas visitors in English.
Currently, I guide tourists to several places around the country.
Many customers have told me that I am a good guide, saying that my guidance is easy to understand and that I have a lot of knowledge about sightseeing spots and history.
Furthermore, I will continue to improve my skills and make efforts to give you a better experience in Japan, so please come and enjoy your trip in Japan with me.
