What Is a Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa The tour started in light rain, but the cherry blossoms were in full bloom at both Meiji Shrine and Shinjuku Gyoen, and at Meiji Shrine we were also able to see a ceremony. Overall, the first half received a very positive response. On the other hand, since we continued on foot from Meiji Shrine to Shinjuku Gyoen and then to Shinjuku Station, and because it was the day after their arrival in Japan, some signs of fatigue became apparent toward the latter half. In particular, the reaction at the scramble crossing upon arriving in Shibuya was not as strong as I had expected. When boarding the Ginza Line, I chose to wait for a train departing from the terminal so that everyone could be seated, but they appeared a little tired as soon as they sat down. We arrived in Asakusa around 12:15, as planned. Initially the plan was to have a light meal along Nakamise-dori and similar areas, but after discussing it during the Ginza Line ride to Asakusa, the guests expressed a preference to dine at a restaurant, so I took them to a tempura soba shop. Due to the crowding at the shop and the cooking time, it took a while for the food to be served, resulting in a stay of about one hour. As a result, the sightseeing time in Asakusa was limited, so I changed the original route of "Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center → Kaminarimon → Nakamise-dori → main hall" and guided them to the main hall first instead. In the end, I guided them through Senso-ji Temple, Asakusa Shrine, and the observation deck of the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, ending the tour at that facility, but overall the latter half proceeded at a somewhat rushed pace. Based on this experience, I recognized that, especially for tours with an early morning start, it is important to set a break at a midpoint and to manage meal times. Going forward, I will make an effort to communicate more clearly about meal content and required time, both in advance and on the day, in order to maintain overall balance in the tour operation. The guests were visitors from Europe, and after Tokyo they were also planning private tours in Kyoto and Osaka, and they appeared accustomed to overseas travel and guided tours. In the preliminary discussions as well, they left the itinerary entirely up to the guide, and I sensed a high level of expectation for the guiding content. Takeshi was an essential partner for planning our first trip to Tokyo. He made a customized itinerary for me based on my preferences – one historic sight, one place with lots of plants, and one place that would be fun for our 10 year old. He planned the perfect day for us which was fun for the whole family! He showed us how to navigate the subway system, and he also had lunch with us which was a real treat! I appreciate him sending us recommendations before our trip even started – even guiding us on how to buy tickets for the limousine bus in Narita to get to our hotel. My only regret was not booking more time – 6 hours went by so fast! You won’t regret booking Takeshi to be your guide in Tokyo 🙂

I had a 12-hour layover in Tokyo and decided to book this tour with Takeshi. I’m so glad I did. He was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the history of Tokyo. Since I was traveling solo, I really appreciated having Takeshi’s support.
From the beginning, Takeshi was very helpful. He helped me find a place to store my luggage at the airport and made sure to ask which terminal my flight was leaving from so we could store it there, which made everything much easier at the end of my trip.
Takeshi took me all around Asakusa, where I got to see Senso-ji Temple, walk around, and buy souvenirs. He suggested a great authentic place for us to eat soba noodles and shrimp tempura, which was one of the highlights of the tour and very tasty.
We also got to walk across Shibuya Crossing at night, which was exciting. Takeshi has a very energetic walking pace, which helped us make the most of my limited time and see many places around Tokyo. He was very knowledgeable about the transit system and guided me safely to and from every location. He also brought me back to the airport at the exact place where I could pick up my luggage.
Throughout the entire experience, I felt very safe, secure, and happy. Takeshi made my long layover a wonderful experience, and I truly appreciated his help, knowledge, and guidance.
