Can You Do a Private Walking Tour of Kyoto's Higashiyama and Nanzen-ji from Kyoto Station? A Licensed Guide's Report The tour was originally arranged for a larger number of guests, but as some of the group were unable to join, we carried out the tour with the remaining guests. I had originally planned to travel from Kyoto Station to Yasaka Shrine by bus, but because it was hot and I wanted to reduce the walking distance as much as possible, we instead traveled by subway and the Hankyu line. This meant the guests had to walk from the Hankyu station to Yasaka Shrine, but as a result I was able to show them the Shijo Ohashi Bridge, Hanamikoji Street, and more. Thanks to the heavy rain the previous day, the river was slightly swollen and its flow looked refreshingly cool, and the guests were delighted to see the riverside restaurants preparing their terrace platforms. They were also very fond of the sight of the lanterns decorating the dance hall at Yasaka Shrine. I had originally intended to walk along the Shirakawa, but since we had already entered Yasaka Shrine, we skipped the Shirakawa route and instead passed along Chion-in and in front of Shoren-in. The guests were amazed at the sheer size of the Chion-in Sanmon gate. When I told them the story of how Tokugawa Ieyasu took part of the neighboring Shoren-in grounds when building Chion-in, they were very surprised. They greatly enjoyed the tranquility of this area. From Heian Shrine to Nanzen-ji, we walked along the Lake Biwa Canal, and the guests enjoyed the scenery there. Along the way, we could see the head of a giraffe from the zoo, so they stopped to watch it. At the Sanmon gate of Nanzen-ji, one member of the group was not comfortable with heights, so they waited below. The rest of the guests admired the view from the gate and the Buddhist statues inside. We then visited the Hatto (lecture hall), and I considered entering the Hojo, but the guests decided not to go inside, so we visited the Suirokaku aqueduct and left Nanzen-ji. It was around 13:30 at that point, and when I asked what they would like to do, they said they would return to the Hotel. With the guests' agreement, I saw them to the transfer point at Karasuma Oike, confirmed that they boarded the train heading toward Takeda, and said goodbye. One member of the group spoke excellent English and was very polite. Another member of the group did their best to keep walking in the heat. As a souvenir, they gave me some chocolate from Europe.

I am a 53-year-old woman, living in Kyoto for nearly 40 years. I got the license in 2001. Since then, I worked as an interpreter or a translator in several companies, secretary at universities, and now work for a company on weekdays at the international dept.I do guiding job only weekend now. I started full swing guiding career after COVID-19 pandemic. I have gotten good review from many of my guests. I love my hometown, Kyoto which has a lot of interesting and historical sites to see. Particularly, I am native to Arashiyama which is famous for bamboo forest. So, I know a lot of places where you can relax yourself around this area. Other than that, Kyoto has many attractive sites which surely interest you. Also, I like meeting many people from different cultural background. I am very happy if I learn about your culture as well. Let’s enjoy exploring around Kyoto!

Title: What Is a Private Tokyo Fish Market Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Toyosu and Tsukiji The guests were a group from North America. Some of the group had visited Japan several times before, while others were visiting Japan for the first time, and they planned to visit Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima after sightseeing in Tokyo. At Toyosu Market, they observed the tuna auction area and introductory videos with great interest. At Tsukiji Market, they enjoyed exploring the many shops of the Tsukiji Uogashi and the outer market with great interest, and they enjoyed a sushi lunch. They were also surprised by the large number of tourists. Since they wanted to visit Kappabashi in Asakusa after the tour, we parted ways at Tsukiji. As I accommodated the guests' wishes as requested, I believe they were satisfied.

Kanagawa in One Day: Sightseeing at Hakone & Ropeway

    Tour Itinerary

    • 10:00 Meet at the hotel
    • 10:30 – 12:00 Sightseeing at Hakone Shrine
    • 12:10 – 12:30 Pirate ship (Motohakone ~ Togendai)

    • 13:00 – 14:30 Owakudani sightseeing, lunch

    • 15:08 – 16:09 Cable car, mountain railway (Owakudani ~ Hakone-Yumoto)
    • 16:09 – 16:30 Guiding around Yumoto, tour ends once the dinner restaurant is decided

What Is a Private Hakone Day Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report Since rain was forecast to linger through the morning, I contacted the guests the day before and moved the tour start back by one hour to a 10:00 meeting. As a result of this change, we avoided being caught in the rain all day. With the whole of Hakone shrouded in mist, we started by visiting Hakone Shrine. The mist may have actually been good for visiting Hakone Shrine, as it created a more sacred atmosphere. By the time we boarded the pirate ship, the mist over the lake had cleared. The distance was still wrapped in clouds and Mount Fuji was never visible during the tour, but the guests seemed to greatly enjoy the lake scenery. Owakudani was also covered in mist so the views could not be enjoyed, but we had lunch at the spacious black-egg hall restaurant, ate the black eggs and light snacks, and took a rest at the table. I had been considering going to the Hakone Open-Air Museum after Owakudani, but changed the plan to shopping and dinner in Yumoto. I accompanied the guests to Yumoto, introduced the main shops, and once the guests entered a sushi restaurant, the tour ended. Although Mount Fuji could not be seen, the guests seemed to greatly enjoy the sightseeing in Hakone and the natural scenery.

What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour from Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report At the guests' request, we had lunch at a French restaurant by the lake, which took about an hour and forty minutes. Combined with the late tour start time of 11:00, we finished sightseeing at Toshogu Shrine without being able to visit the inner shrine (Okumiya). Since one of the guests had undergone knee surgery about half a year earlier and could not overexert themselves, we agreed to skip the long staircase leading to the inner shrine. As a result, we were able to talk in detail about the other highlights of Toshogu Shrine, and the guests seemed to enjoy taking photographs as a hobby. In particular, at the Honjido Hall, famous for its "crying dragon," the guests appeared to enjoy the bell-like echoing sound with pleasant smiles, perhaps because it was easy to understand. Although it was at the guests' request (I suppose heading to Tochigi early in the morning from Tokyo felt like too much of an effort), starting after 11:00 and then extending the trip all the way to Oku-Nikko makes the itinerary quite tight. Today as well, we entered Toshogu Shrine just before closing, and we were the second-to-last group to view Honjido Hall. Going forward, I would like to use this experience to take a more proposal-oriented approach with guests.

I am more than happy to take you to attractive tourism resources scattered in Nikko. I will prepare for your trip enough to satisfy your requests and provide you with the memorable tour. When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. Despite 19 year long stay abroad, I remain charmed by Japanese things, such as culture, custom, spirit, martial art etc. I am glad if I can be of help you understand Japan as well as Nikko through my guide. I am interested in Japanese martial arts: I own the third grade in Japanese archery, known as Kyudo and I have passed a certification examination (1st grade) for Sumo wrestling conducted by the Japanese Sumo Promoting Association.

Title: What Is a Private Hiroshima Tour Like for a Family Visiting from Asia? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from Asia, who had arrived at Fukuoka Airport the day before and planned to tour only Fukuoka and Hiroshima. Some of the guests had previously visited Hokkaido, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, but for others it was their first time in Japan. The group shared that they always wanted the younger members to experience the different cultures and histories of various countries from an early age, and since one of them had just begun studying world history, they were especially eager to show them Hiroshima. At the Peace Memorial Museum, some of the guests put on the audio guides and looked around carefully. After the museum, we visited Hiroshima Castle, where everyone enthusiastically viewed the exhibits and asked many questions. They also happily took photos wearing a samurai helmet. Since Hiroshima Castle has five floors accessible only by stairs, some of the guests rested along the way as they toured. One of the guests had a great sense of humor, and upon meeting at Hiroshima Station immediately said that sightseeing on an empty stomach would be impossible and that they wanted to eat Hiroshima okonomiyaki as soon as possible. So we moved the schedule up slightly and entered an okonomiyaki restaurant near Peace Memorial Park at 11:00, and everyone enjoyed the meal. The group were very fond of Japan, and some of the guests mentioned that they always watch NHK on television. They kindly invited me to visit their home country as well.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kinkaku-ji, Nijo Castle, and Nishiki Market The guests had arrived in Japan only the day before, and some of the group seemed a little tired. Keeping an eye on how everyone was doing, I used buses as much as possible to avoid having them walk under the blazing sun. Each time we reached a destination, I told the guests the next place we would visit and the bus departure time, so they could keep a good sense of timing. After finishing at Kinkaku-ji, we took an ice cream break, and the group became completely re-energized, allowing us to visit Nijo Castle without any trouble. They enjoyed feeding the carp in their own way, which was wonderful to see. When we said goodbye at Nishiki Market, the guests looked truly sorry to part, and I felt a little sad too. I believe they were smiling and enjoying themselves throughout the day.

Hi! My name is YUKA. I’ve got the government license in 2018 and joined a half year traning to do the guide. But a half year later I started my carreer, Covid came. I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America, spending one day on a domestic tour before boarding a cruise ship a few days later, exploring Tokyo by chartered car from Yokohama. Since some of the guests could not walk long distances, we visited the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace and Meiji Shrine using the car to keep the walking to the shortest possible routes, yet the guests were still able to fully appreciate the unique charm of each place. They were amazed at the crowds in Asakusa and Shibuya, wondering where so many people could be coming from, and they experienced walking through Nakamise Street and crossing the famous scramble intersection. Before heading back to the hotel in Yokohama, we went to see the statue of Hachiko, where the guests touched its tail to pay their respects.

What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour from Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Today the weather cleared up beautifully, as if the damp weather of this week had been a lie. The guests mentioned that the weather had not been very good since they arrived in Japan, but they said it looked like they would be able to enjoy the Kyoto tour today. Today's itinerary was quite a tight schedule, covering six locations in eight hours, including the round-trip travel time between Osaka and Kyoto. At the meeting point, I explained this to the guests and asked for their cooperation so that we could proceed with the tour efficiently. The guests understood well, and we were able to visit all the planned spots within the scheduled time. I would like to express my gratitude to the guests.

Title: What Is a Private Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Market Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report From 5:15 to 5:30, I used the materials inside the facility to explain the market and tuna. The guests seemed to be having a great time during the auction. There was another guide nearby who was guiding continuously, but I provided guiding only at key points. The guests were also very pleased with the sushi after the auction. At Tsukiji Market, since one of the guests was helping with a family coffee business, I introduced two coffee shops. At one of them, the guests enjoyed a lively conversation with the shop staff, and I think they had a wonderful time. The recent training was extremely helpful. Thank you very much.

Can You Take a Private Kyoto Tour of Tenryu-ji and Kinkaku-ji? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from North America who already had knowledge of Japanese history. On this private Kyoto tour we visited Tenryu-ji and Kinkaku-ji, both temples founded by Ashikaga shoguns, so I focused my explanations on the Muromachi shogunate. The guests listened with great interest to topics such as the relationship between the emperor and the shogun, and between those in power and temples and shrines. For lunch we were lucky to get seated smoothly at Gyaatei, where the guests asked many questions while comparing dishes with the English menu.
