    What Can You Do During a Tokyo Layover? A Private City Tour Report by a Licensed Guide The guests were visiting Japan for the first time, stopping over in Tokyo, which was a transit point on their onward flight. Since they had time available during the layover, they joined the tour. As they preferred modern attractions over temples and shrines, they enjoyed a café break at Harakado in Jingumae and a shopping stroll at Tokyo Midtown Roppongi. They seemed to enjoy it very much. If time had allowed, I would have liked to show them Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen, but with a long flight ahead, they decided to save Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen for a future visit, and we returned to the airport. After confirming all the procedures for the departure gate, we said goodbye. The guests seemed a little tired, but were looking forward to reuniting with the group they were soon going to meet.

    Title: What Is a Private Himeji Castle Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were a group visiting from North America. The meeting time was 10:00, but the group arrived in Himeji early and were already at the meeting point by 9:40, so the tour started ahead of schedule. The guests had visited Japan before and were interested in Japanese history and castles, asking many questions about castles and the Edo period even before we reached the entrance of Himeji Castle. They took their time exploring the castle interior thoroughly, and since going up and down the stairs was demanding for one of the guests, most of the tour was spent at Himeji Castle, with the farewell coming shortly after entering Koko-en Garden. Fortunately, contrary to the forecast, we avoided rain during the tour, which was a relief.

    What Is a Private Nara Park Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests walked around the Nara Park area without any trouble. In our earlier communication, they had mentioned a strong interest in history. During the tour, I learned that they had climbed to the summit of Mount Fuji two days earlier, which helped me understand that they were likely tired. It was impressive to see the guests remain completely fine after completing the full ascent and descent of Mount Fuji in a total of eight hours and then walking all day today, and it made me reflect once again on the wide variety of what people around the world consider normal.

    Hello! Thank you for choosing Nara! I bet you’ll love Nara. I specialize in Nara because Nara is the unique place where in one day you can cover the history and religions of Japan from the ancient times to the post war era while enjoying rambling in the UNESCO World Heritage park, having communication with lovely deer, surrounded with the beautiful nature.
    I grew up in Nara, went university in Kyoto, enjoyed teaching at high schools and a university in Osaka. The three former capitals of Japan are home to me.
    After retiring from teaching I began guiding so that I can meet various people from various corners of the world with a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Each time I guide, I find it hugely rewarding because I learn a lot from my guests sharing the history, culture and all that I know about Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
    I used to be a marathon runner, mountain climber and skier though I am not much of them anymore.
    What I especially recommend is to stay in Nara a couple of days and enjoy communicating with friendly deer while visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Nara in early morning, temples and shrines at night are well worth experiencing.

    What Is a Private Miyajima and Hiroshima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Since the guests would be staying two more nights, I suggested ending the tour on Miyajima so they could enjoy it, and they decided to do so. After the tour, I recommended Daisho-in Temple and the ropeway. As they were also planning to join an okonomiyaki class the next day, I chose oysters for lunch. Since they had not yet tried Japanese sake, I first recommended Saijo for the following day. I mentioned that near the Hotel there was an exhibition about early immigrants, and as it was also related to atomic bomb heritage, the guests showed great interest. At the museum, the guests spent more than an hour and a half viewing the exhibits. At the shrine, I talked about the concepts of impurity and ritual purification, and the guests shared that some of these traditions have been passed down among people of similar heritage. This seemed to resolve some of their questions. I showed them the way to the ropeway station and ended the tour.

    I also would like to share time with you on a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine. We can share an enjoyable time by exploring a sacred atmosphere, tradition, nature, food, etc.

    I am also an official ‘A-bomb legacy successor’ designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors’ experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official ‘A-bomb Legacy Successors. ‘

    What Is a Private Toyosu and Tsukiji Fish Market Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report Because it was a large group, the guests took taxis from their Hotel (in Hatsudai) to Toyosu Market. I had prepared directions in Japanese in advance to show the drivers and sent them by email, so everyone gathered on time without any problems. (They came in three separate taxis.) We watched the tuna auction (there was a lot of fresh, non-frozen tuna), and then went to the intermediate wholesalers' building. On the Yurikamome line, the guests sat in the front seats and eagerly filmed videos. After seeing the Miyazaki Hayao clock at the Nippon TV building, we headed to Tsukiji Market. At Tsukiji Uogashi, the guests enjoyed watching tuna being cut into blocks and seeing unusual fish and shellfish, and then we moved on to the outer market. After I explained the different types of shops, the guests said they wanted to have sushi together before heading back, so I guided them to a sushi restaurant. Once they were seated, the tour came to an end.

    Title: What Is a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Shinjuku The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from Europe. They had arrived at Narita Airport the previous night. They mentioned that they planned to visit Disneyland and DisneySea over the next two days. They were staying in Japan for a total of two weeks, planning to spend some days in Tokyo before traveling to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima, then returning to Tokyo before heading home. Some of the guests were big fans of Japanese anime and planned to visit Akihabara that evening. They said they were looking forward to being able to eat Japanese food. The tour took place in hot and humid weather. At Meiji Shrine, the guests asked many thoughtful questions, such as "What are torii gates for?", "Why do Buddhism and Shinto coexist?", and "Do Japanese people believe in Buddhism or Shinto?" They also asked, "Do Japanese people respect the Emperor and the Imperial family?" and "Why did the Meiji Restoration happen?" We strolled along Takeshita Street and Cat Street, where some of the guests bought socks as souvenirs. After that, we moved to Shibuya. At the Scramble Crossing, they commented, "Why are there so many people here?" We took photos in front of the Hachiko statue and took a break at a Starbucks, where they remarked, "There are plenty of Starbucks cafes back home too." We then moved to Shinjuku and walked through Omoide Yokocho and Kabukicho. They commented, "This feels somehow different from other parts of the city center." They also shared observations such as "The city is clean and quiet everywhere," "No one talks loudly on the trains," and "There are really so many trains on the subway." They noted that "The Tokyo subway is difficult for beginners when it comes to transfers," so I saw them off at Hatchobori Station, where we parted ways.

    What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Asakusa, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya The guests were visitors from North America, traveling in Japan for the first time. They had been encouraged to visit Japan by a family member who had traveled to Japan many times before. They had arrived at Haneda Airport the previous night, and after strolling through Center-Gai, they enjoyed ramen at Ichiran. The guests were staying in Japan for ten days. After spending time in Tokyo, they planned to travel around Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka before returning to Tokyo and then heading home. They said they were looking forward to eating Japanese food, though they mentioned they could not eat raw fish or sushi. The tour took place in hot and humid weather. The guests remarked, "Where we are from, the temperatures can be even higher than in Tokyo, but the climate is dry with no humidity. This humidity is really getting to us." At Asakusa, they asked questions such as, "When was this temple built?" "Why are there so many people here?" and "Do all Japanese people believe in Buddhism?" They also asked, "What kind of teaching is Buddhism?" One of the guests drew an omikuji fortune and was delighted to draw "daikichi" (great blessing). The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were also very crowded despite the heat. They asked questions such as, "When was this built as a castle?" and "Why did Edo Castle become the Imperial Palace?" I explained the nature and history of the Japanese Imperial Family. They asked, "Does the Emperor live inside here?" "What is the relationship between the Emperor and the Prime Minister?" and "Who will become the next Emperor?" At Meiji Shrine, they asked, "What are the torii gates for?" "How are Buddhism and Shinto different?" and "Which do Japanese people believe in, Buddhism or Shinto?" They also asked, "Why did the Meiji Restoration happen?" We strolled through Takeshita Street, then moved on to Shibuya. At the scramble crossing, they commented, "Why are there so many people here?" We took photos in front of the Hachiko statue. They made comments such as, "The city is so clean and quiet everywhere," "No one talks loudly on the trains," and "There are so many subway trains." They said they wanted to eat curry rice somewhere, so I introduced a restaurant in Center-Gai, and we parted ways at Shibuya Station.

    As a recent group travel record, in October 2023, we have a track record of guiding a group of 33 people from Singapore to Narita Airport transfer plus sightseeing in Tokyo.
    Self-introduction:
    In the past, I was stationed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico as an expatriate of a Japanese bank for over 11 years.
    Since I have been mainly involved in the financing business in the United States for a long time, I think I am able to provide interpretation and translation services related to business and finance.
    I am a certified CPA in the United States.
    In addition, for three years from April 2016, I will be engaged in Japanese-English translation work (part-time), and I can also handle translation work.
    Although I don’t have a qualification in Spanish, but I think I can handle day to day conversation in Spanish without any problems.
    My hobby is trekking and from time to time, take a walk around mountains near Tokyo like Mt. Takao, Tanzawa, etc. I think it is possible to provide tourist information here as well.
    Since April 2015, I have been working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourism Volunteer and Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Volunteer.
    One more, I have a separate house near Asuka Village, Nara prefecture, and I stay there for a total of about 30 days every year and have been enjoying sightseeing personally in the vicinity. Therefore, I think in the Kansai region, especially in Nara, Asuka, Yoshino, Koyasan, Kumano Kodo, etc., where I think I will be able to tour guide with confidence.

    Title: What's a Half-Day Private Tour of Osaka Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Osaka Castle and Dotonbori The guests were visitors from Europe traveling through Tokyo, Kanazawa, Takayama, and Kyoto, with Osaka as their final stop before flying home from Kansai International Airport this evening.     What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visitors from Europe. They mentioned that their home is a small country not widely known in Europe, and that at immigration they had once been jokingly asked whether they had invented such a country themselves. We met at the Shinkansen exit of Kyoto Station. Unfortunately, we started the tour in the rain. However, after lunch the weather improved to the point where umbrellas were hardly necessary. Partly because of the weather, the tourist sites were not crowded. Even at Kiyomizu-dera, it was easy to take photographs. Within the group they spoke Spanish among themselves. The guests were able to converse well in clear, easy-to-understand English. One of the guests appeared to run a business operating a ski resort. Some of the guests were involved in figure skating and table tennis, and mentioned that they knew of the Harimoto siblings, the Japanese table tennis players. We walked all the way from Kiyomizu-dera to the entrance of Pontocho, where our time was up and the tour ended. The photo was taken at the lunch spot.

    Can You Do a Private Day Trip from Osaka to Hiroshima and Miyajima? A Licensed Guide's Report The guests were visiting from North America. Before arriving in Hiroshima, they had completed a cruise around Japan, and this was a day trip from Osaka to visit Hiroshima and Miyajima. Everyone in the group, including a young child, stayed in good spirits throughout the day. In our prior email exchanges, places such as Shukkeien Garden and Hiroshima Castle had been listed as desired destinations, but I explained that within a 7-hour stay it would only be feasible to visit the two World Heritage Sites of Miyajima and the Peace Memorial Park, and guided them accordingly. There was no time to sit down at a restaurant, so they bought momiji manju, fried oysters, grilled skewers and other items at shops and ate them on the spot. Therefore, before parting ways, I guided them to the restaurant area at Hiroshima Station, where they had dinner.
