Title: What Does a 6-Hour Private Tsukiji and Asakusa Food Tour in Tokyo Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from North America on a 6-hour food tour covering Toyosu Market, the Tsukiji Outer Market, Asakusa, Yanaka Ginza, and Nezu Shrine.
At the first stop, Toyosu Market, I explained the reasons and history behind the relocation from Tsukiji to Toyosu and the mechanics of the tuna auction at the PR corner on the third floor of the management building, then we visited the tuna auction floor. Four frozen tuna remained, so we were able to get a sense of the atmosphere.
At the second stop, the Tsukiji Outer Market, it was lunchtime. As it was the first day of a three-day weekend, the food court had a 30-minute wait. After lunch, we strolled through the market and enjoyed its lively atmosphere.
At the third stop, Asakusa, we walked around Kaminarimon Gate, Nakamise-dori, and Senso-ji Temple. The guests experienced Japanese culture through the incense smoke of the large censer and praying at Senso-ji Temple, and I explained Buddhism and Shinto.
At the fourth stop, we walked from Yanaka Ginza to Nezu Shrine. Strolling through Yanaka Ginza, we enjoyed the retro Showa-era atmosphere. We passed through "Snake Alley" toward Nezu Shrine. Due to fatigue from the walking tour on a hot summer day, we parted ways just before reaching Nezu Shrine, and the guests returned to the Hotel by taxi.
A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is one of the city's most visited sites. Visitors approach through the iconic Kaminarimon Gate with its massive red lantern, then walk along Nakamise-dori, a shopping street lined with traditional snacks and souvenirs, before reaching the temple's main hall. The large incense censer in front of the main hall is a popular spot, as the smoke is believed to bring good health.

Tripadvisor review: Toyosu Market Morning Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Food Tour with Licensed Guide
The Toyosu tuna auction experience was incredible. I have always wanted to see the auction but until this trip had not managed to fit it into my itinerary. So on this trip I decided to make the early morning effort to see it and in the process I was fortunate to win the lottery and get an even better view of the whole experience ! A shout out to my guide who made the experience first rate, Katsu-San. Katsu-sans knowledge of the market and the tuna auction process, and his enthusiasm to share it, was exceptional. I would recommend him and the tour without hesitation . I would not have understand what I was seeing without his guidance and good humour.
