What's a 4-Hour Private Food Tour of Toyosu and Tsukiji in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from North America. The weather was sunny at 22°C, making for a pleasant 4-hour tour of Tokyo.
[Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) arranged this private tour, which began at Toyosu Market. Since the guests had requested to see the tuna auction, we met at the station in front of the market and spent the last 30 minutes viewing the site. They already seemed quite hungry by then.
Next, we moved on to the Tsukiji Outer Market. Before the street food tour, we enjoyed a morning coffee break. After that, the guests sampled and purchased nuts, and enjoyed oysters, scallops, daifuku, strawberry skewers, wagyu skewers, sushi, and more. I highlighted the freshness of the food while explaining the relationship between the Outer Market and Toyosu Market.
The final stop was Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple. I explained that although the building's exterior reflects an Indian architectural style, it is in fact a Buddhist temple. We stepped inside to take in the solemn atmosphere. After explaining how to get to Ginza, we parted ways.
A notable stop on the tour was Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple. Tsukiji Hongwanji is a Buddhist temple in Tokyo known for its distinctive stone architecture inspired by ancient Indian and Asian temple styles, which sets it apart from traditional Japanese wooden temples. First established in the early 17th century, it belongs to the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism and remains an important place of worship and a popular landmark for visitors exploring the Tsukiji area.

The Toyosu tuna auction experience was incredible. I have always wanted to see the auction but until this trip had not managed to fit it into my itinerary. So on this trip I decided to make the early morning effort to see it and in the process I was fortunate to win the lottery and get an even better view of the whole experience ! A shout out to my guide who made the experience first rate, Katsu-San. Katsu-sans knowledge of the market and the tuna auction process, and his enthusiasm to share it, was exceptional. I would recommend him and the tour without hesitation . I would not have understand what I was seeing without his guidance and good humour.
