- 10:10 – 10:30 View of Shibuya Scramble Crossing and more from the Hikarie Sky Lobby 11:15
- 10:30 – 10:50 Stroll around Shibuya Scramble Crossing, Hachiko, and Shibuya Center Street
- 10:50 – 11:15 Travel from Shibuya to Tochomae by Hanzomon Line and Oedo Line
- 11:15 – 11:40 Tocho South Observation Deck
- 11:40 – 12:00 After seeing the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building as an urban district by Kenzo Tange, travel through the West Exit area to Shinjuku Station
- 12:00 – 12:30 Travel from Shinjuku to Ginza by Marunouchi Line, then on foot to Hibiya Gourmet Son
- 12:30 – 13:30 Lunch at Kushiyaki Kuromatsuya
- 13:30 – 13:45 Travel on foot

What's a Private Day Tour of Tokyo Like from Yokohama for Cruise Passengers? A Licensed Guide's Report
The night before the tour, the guests contacted me to say that during their cruise they had already seen many temples, shrines, and gardens in Kyoto and elsewhere, so this time they wanted to see Tokyo.
I explained that if we were to travel beyond Yokohama and Kamakura, they would need to cover the guide's transportation costs from Yokohama to Tokyo and back, and since they readily agreed, we changed the plan to a Tokyo tour. Based on our earlier communication, the guests had expressed a wish to taste Japanese whisky, and I told them that Tokyo offered far better options for this than Yokohama. At the whisky venue we actually visited in Ginza, there were so many paid tasting sets to choose from that it was hard to decide, and the guests were very satisfied. In Shinjuku we caught a bit of rain, but after that we were mostly under cover, which was a great help.
Note: Yokohama Port has three cruise ship terminals. Osanbashi Pier and Hammerhead (Shinko) are convenient, but Daikoku Pier is far away with limited bridge access, making it very inconvenient. Yokohama City's website even recommends taking a taxi when cruise ships arrive, since public buses become crowded, take a long time, and may not be able to accommodate everyone. Even so, taxis compete with numerous excursion buses at the bridges, making travel times hard to predict, and a taxi from either Yokohama Station or Tsurumi Station costs between 3,000 and 4,000 yen, so it is hard to justify paying out of pocket from the guide fee to go and meet guests there. On the return trip, the number of public buses becomes unreliable as well, and in the worst case a round trip by taxi could eat up half the guide fee. This time the guests had initially hoped to meet at Daikoku Terminal, but since starting the tour from there would have taken at least an hour round trip, we were able to agree that they would take the shuttle bus provided by the cruise ship to Sakuragicho instead, which worked out well. Still, thinking about future tours, this remains a very difficult issue.

Kawasaki, located between Tokyo and Yokohama near Haneda Airport, is the second station of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the 400 years old highway towards Kyoto from Edo (old name of Tokyo). You can do Hand-cut glass experiment, stopping at a bar for sake tasting, visiting Kawasaki-Daishi temple that receives 3 million worshippers in the new year period.
Another spot is Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata prefecture, 75 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Echigo-Yuzawa is “Onsen” (hot springs) town. You can enjoy visiting Sake brewery, skiing in winter, veiwing Sakura (cherry blossom) in spring. Appreciation of contemporary art displays in open air and old carvings at temples, in neighboring towns will be also memorable experience.

Our private tour with Tatsuki was fabulous! He was friendly, knowledgeable and kind. Our visit to the Gotokuji Temple was our first time at a temple. Thanks to Tatsuki, we had a enriching and fun experience! He even researched the time to catch the cat train for our return. At our lunch together, Tatsuki generously answered all of our questions. As Tatsuki is also a sake sommelier, my husband enjoyed learning about and trying different sake! It was hot (97 degrees!). Tatsuki was so thoughtful about our wellbeing. He even had a cooling pouch and hydration packs for us when we needed it. This made our visit to the Imperial Palace gardens manageable. Tatsuki made our day so smooth. Thanks to him, we didn’t have to think about logistics and we saw more. We enjoyed his company and commentary.

Tatsuki Endo showed us around some Tokyo highlights as it was our first time here. He helped us navigate the public transport, answered all our endless questions, showed us cool land marks, showed us some insider look out points for minimum crowds but maximum views, introduced us to Sake and taught me how to use chopsticks! Four of us had a great Tokyo adventure with Tatsuki. He met us in the Yokohama cruise terminal on time and escorted us on a series of trains to Tokyo, including a diversion we requested to ride the Shinkansen bullet train. Having a knowledgable local guide made the experience much easier and trouble free than doing it on our own, and based on reports from shipmates it sounds like doing the tour this way on foot and by train was more enjoyable and memorable than experiencing Tokyo via car or bus tours. Tatsuki spoke perfect English and provided a wealth of information about the places we visited. Highly recommended!
