Title: What's a Private Tsukiji and Asakusa Shopping Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were staying at a hotel in Shibuya, but since they wanted to make the most of their time, we set the meeting point at a convenience store inside the Tsukiji Outer Market. Thanks to this arrangement, I believe the guests were able to enjoy shopping for a good long while.

At Tsukiji, they not only enjoyed eating on the spot but also actively bought food items that could be taken back overseas, such as prepared wasabi and steak sauce. One of the guests purchased a kitchen knife and a whetstone at Tsukiji, while another sought out somewhat specialized tools such as a bread knife over in the Kappabashi area, so in the end most of the tour was spent shopping. For this reason, historical explanations in Asakusa were kept to a minimum.

Since this was a tour with a local meeting point and a local drop-off, the only subway segment we used for transportation was between Tsukiji and Tawaramachi.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.
