Title: What's a Private Tokyo Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Market Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guest was a visitor from North America who came to Japan this time traveling alone to join a tuna auction tour. The guest had wanted to see the tuna auction on a previous trip to Japan, but had not been able to go because the early morning start was considered too early. With fishing as a personal hobby, the guest watched the auction with great interest. The guest was especially amazed to see large tuna hooked and carried, then loaded onto carts. The guest was also impressed by how systematically the auction proceeded, admiring how well-organized everything was. For breakfast at a sushi restaurant after the auction, the guest enjoyed a tuna-focused meal and was delighted that the medium-fatty tuna seemed to melt in the mouth. While touring the intermediate wholesalers at the Tsukiji Outer Market, the guest showed me a video of what is called "Flying Salmon," a custom among wholesalers in their home region. In the video, when a customer buys a salmon, the salmon is tossed to a staff member as part of the practice. Showing this, the guest admired how thoroughly professional the Japanese intermediate wholesalers were.

A notable stop on the tour was the Tsukiji Outer Market. The Tsukiji Outer Market is a bustling district lined with hundreds of shops and stalls selling fresh seafood, produce, kitchenware, and prepared foods. It remains a popular destination for visitors seeking to experience Japan's rich culinary culture, offering everything from fresh sushi and grilled seafood to specialty ingredients and traditional Japanese knives.
