What Is a Private Family-Friendly Tokyo Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Africa. They arrived in Japan via a connecting flight and, due to a flight delay, arrived later than planned and seemed quite tired.

Since one of the guests did not have an IC card, we started the tour by first purchasing a children's Welcome Suica at Ueno Station.

The day of the tour was extremely hot, so I kept the introductions at each spot brief so that they could explore each place at their own pace later on.

At the guests' request, I placed the Pokémon Center at the very end of the tour and guided them around some of the less touristy areas nearby. I had originally planned to show them Ningyocho, but after scouting it in advance I felt it might not be very enjoyable for the group, so I changed the plan to Akihabara (after consulting with the guests). One of the guests was very much looking forward to visiting the Pokémon Center and kept eagerly asking when we would get there, and since the group seemed a little tired, I decided to head to the final destination earlier than planned.

At the guests' request I kept the tour within a small area, but this actually ended up involving more walking to get around, and I felt sorry for making them walk in the heat. The guests kindly told me it was fine, but next time I would like to find better ways to avoid walking so much on extremely hot days.

I’m Yoko Kusumoto, a government lisenced English-speaking guide.
I have been living in Tokyo for more than 20 years, and it’s my pleasure to show you around Tokyo. I recommend Meiji Shrine and Asakusa if you are first time in Japan. I also recommend off-the-beaton path spots like Fukagawa Fudodo and Gotokuji Temple(lucky cat temple).
I was born and brought up in Kamakura, where the first shogun’s government was established. It will be my pleasure to introduce you my hometown as well.

I live with my husband and one teenage son.
I like traveling, flowers, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and exploring Tokyo.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
