What Can You See on a Full-Day Private Walking Tour of Tokyo? A Licensed Guide's Report

The group's hotel was a little away from Shinjuku Station, but since the guests seemed quite comfortable walking, we started out on foot. After that, we moved around using a mix of the subway and JR lines.

I had originally planned to leave Yoyogi Park off the itinerary, but I found information that the kanzakura (early-blooming cherry blossoms) were in bloom, so I decided to guide the group there after Meiji Shrine. Although the number of trees was small, they were almost in full bloom, and since it was a weekday there were few visitors, so I feel this was a good decision. As we had some extra time in the itinerary, before Asakusa I let the guests do some shopping at Kappabashi Kitchenware Street, and in the time left after lunch I briefly showed them around Akihabara.

One of the guests planned to take part in the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday and wished to stop by a related event being held at Tokyo Big Sight after the tour, so at the end we took the JR line to Shimbashi Station and I walked them to the Yurikamome boarding area before we parted ways.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.
