Can You Do a Private Family Tour of Tokyo with a Large Group? A Licensed Guide's Report

A group visiting Japan from Europe had already explored Hiroshima, Kyoto, and, in Tokyo, sites such as Tokyo Skytree and Harajuku. On short notice, relatives of the group arrived in Tokyo the previous day from Asia and joined this tour, bringing the total to eleven people. Several members of the group had visited Japan before. Since the group included some who needed a gentler pace, rather than adding more destinations, I kept the walking pace relaxed and made sure everyone could comfortably enjoy the tour.

Although we had not originally planned to go up Tokyo Tower, tickets could be purchased quickly on the day, so I asked the group and we went up to the Main Observation Deck. From there they could look down on Zojoji Temple, which we had just visited, and enjoyed a clear view of Tokyo under fine weather.

For lunch, most of the group ordered hashed beef rice and enjoyed it very much.

As for Meiji Shrine, which had been planned as the final destination, the group had already visited Harajuku the previous day (Takeshita Street and Yoyogi Park), there was not enough time left before closing, some of the guests said they had seen enough shrines and temples, and some of the guests wished to go to a shopping mall. Taking all this into account, I guided them instead to a commercial complex in Roppongi (Tokyo Midtown Roppongi), which offered convenient access back to their hotel, introduced the main shops, and said goodbye.
