Tokyo in One Day: Kappabashi Shopping Street & Kodokan — Guide Shigeru

Title: What's a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? Meiji Shrine, Asakusa, and Kodokan — A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group of adults from Europe. Because their stay in Tokyo was short, they did not purchase Suica or similar cards, and instead bought tickets for each ride as they traveled around the city by subway. We began in front of the south gate of Meiji Shrine, where I explained Japanese history, the difference between shrines and temples, and the origins of Meiji Shrine. As we walked along the approach, I added explanations at various points, and we offered prayers at the main hall. The guests seemed impressed by the forest within the grounds and by structures such as the torii gates. Afterward, we moved to the area in front of Shibuya Station, took photos in front of the Hachiko statue, and had lunch at a ramen restaurant. After traveling to Asakusa, I explained the buildings on the opposite bank from Azuma Bridge and talked about Senso-ji Temple at the cultural tourism center. Walking from Kaminarimon Gate through Nakamise, the guests seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of the traditional shopping street. After praying at the main hall, we went to the Kappabashi shopping street for some shopping, and then headed to the Kodokan by subway. At the Kodokan, some of the guests wished to take part in training, so I assisted with the procedures, which extended the finishing time beyond what had been planned. It was gratifying that the desired training became possible as we brought the tour to a close.
