What's a Private One-Day Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, and Asakusa

The group assembled as scheduled. It was their first time in Japan, having arrived just the day before. Since they were not familiar with IC cards at all, we purchased a PASMO at Daiba Station before starting. At Tsukiji we looked at many kinds of food, but since some of the guests do not eat seafood, there was not a big reaction, and we finished touring the outer market rather calmly. We then entered Hongwanji Temple, and as no service was being held, we took a short rest in the chairs. We went to Otemachi and had lunch at a tonkatsu restaurant. They finished everything except the cabbage and told me it was "very delicious." At the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, they took photos of the stone walls, gates, and plants and were impressed. There were persimmons growing in the orchard, and since they had never eaten a persimmon, they took photos with great curiosity. In Asakusa, they first enjoyed the view from Azumabashi Bridge, then sat and rested at the observation deck of the Culture and Tourism Center while enjoying the view. At Senso-ji Temple they bought a charm. We also looked around Asakusa Shrine and other spots, and finally, at the guests' request, we caught a taxi near "Ekimise," told the driver the destination (their accommodation), asked for a rough fare, conveyed it to the guests, and parted ways. They seemed a little tired, but I believe they were satisfied. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is one of the city's most visited religious sites. Visitors approach the main hall through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and the lively Nakamise shopping street, which is lined with shops selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. The temple and the surrounding Asakusa district offer a vivid glimpse into Tokyo's history and traditional culture.

Hello, I’m Masaaki Kurata. I have been conducting walking tours in Asakusa, Ueno, Yanaka and the East Garden of Imperial Palace since I joined an English guide volunteer club in 2016. I worked for 2 U.S. based companies in Tokyo for 41 years and retired in 2023. I developed good communication skills with people from other countries in my long career in those 2 companies. I was born in the suburb of Tokyo and I’m familiar with Tokyo pretty much. Since I retired and do not work for a company any longer, I can be flexible in making itineraries. I really want to make tourists happy by making fun and interesting communication.
