What's a Private One-Day Tokyo Highlights Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa

The guests were a lovely group visiting from Oceania. They had come to Tokyo after an Alaska cruise. Some of the guests had visited Japan before in winter and were quite familiar with Japanese culture. We toured the highlights of Tokyo, including Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa, and everyone was a very strong walker. At the pig cafe on Takeshita Street, they took many photos. Since there were no particular dislikes, we had lunch of hand-rolled sushi at a restaurant, which was very well received. From Shibuya we went to Asakusa, and on the way back I introduced them to shops in Ginza, such as a department store, before we parted ways. The weather was fine, and it was a very enjoyable tour. A notable stop on the tour was Asakusa. Asakusa is one of Tokyo's most historic districts and is home to Senso-ji, the city's oldest Buddhist temple, founded in the 7th century. Visitors approach the temple through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and walk along Nakamise-dori, a lively shopping street lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. The area offers a vivid glimpse into old Tokyo and remains a favorite destination for those wishing to experience the city's traditional atmosphere.
