What's a Full-Day Private Tokyo Tour with a Licensed Guide Like? A Guide's Report

The tour started at 8:00 in the morning, so Meiji Shrine was relatively empty, allowing me to guide in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The subway ride was also smooth since the morning rush had settled, and overall we were able to move around efficiently.

On that day, the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace were closed, so after guiding the guests mainly around the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Marunouchi area, we moved on to Ueno.

This was my first time incorporating the Tokyo National Museum into a tour course, but we were able to view the main exhibits centered on the Main Building in about one hour. The guests showed a strong interest in Japanese history and culture, and one of the guests in particular enthusiastically took photos while viewing the exhibits. I believe it was a great opportunity to experience Japanese history and culture.

We had an early lunch near Ueno Station. Since it was still early, the restaurant was not crowded and we were able to use it smoothly. After that, we took the Ginza Line to Asakusa and I guided the guests around Senso-ji Temple.

The overall pace was faster than originally planned, and by the time we arrived in Asakusa we had about one hour of extra time. I had anticipated the possibility of visiting Tokyo Skytree after the tour, but since the guests told me they planned to visit Skytree on another day, we discussed how to spend the remaining time.

Having heard that one of the guests was interested in Pokemon, I suggested the Pokemon Center inside Shibuya PARCO, and since the guests wished to go, we moved to Shibuya. As the guests said they would explore the Pokemon Center on their own, the tour ended at Shibuya PARCO. The tour was scheduled to end at 14:00, but at the guests' request it ended around 13:30.

The guests on this occasion were visiting from Europe.

Initially I considered how to travel from the Hotel to Meiji Shrine, but I judged that walking would be more efficient than taking a train or bus, so we walked directly from the Hotel. The guests had plenty of stamina and said they exercise regularly, so they had no trouble and enjoyed the longer walk. As a result, the route from Nishi-Shinjuku through Meiji Shrine and toward Harajuku made for a good start to the tour.

One of the guests had stayed in Japan for a trip about a decade earlier, and this time they came to Japan together as a group. In talking with them, I was impressed by the educational value they placed on giving children the chance to experience other countries and cultures from a young age.

The guests were both very calm and polite, and we were able to proceed through the tour in a relaxed atmosphere throughout. During the tour I actively helped take photos using the guests' smartphone, and they seemed pleased with that as well.

Overall, I was able to guide flexibly in response to changes in plans while tailoring the content to the guests' interests, and I believe it turned out to be a highly satisfying tour.
