In the pre-tour communication, the guests requested using taxis where possible and noted some dietary restrictions (no beef, no pork, no raw fish, no raw egg). I replied with a proposed itinerary, explaining that taxis have some limitations on pick-up and drop-off locations, and that traffic conditions could shorten our time at each site, but that taxi use was fine with that understanding.

We confirmed the details again when we met on the day and took a taxi to Meiji Shrine. During the ride, the guests shared that they had previously lived elsewhere in North America and later relocated after retiring, that they were outdoor enthusiasts, and that they were planning to join a Japan Alps trekking tour heading toward Kyoto. One of the guests had read a well-known novel set in Japan and already had some knowledge of the country. Walking 14–15 km every day is a hobby for the guests, who love nature. They even stopped to take a photo in front of an ordinary bamboo fence and thicket!

The guests were far more energetic on their feet than I had imagined, so the visit to Meiji Shrine finished quickly, with just a short look at the souvenir shops. We took the JR Yamanote Line to the Shibuya crossing (the guests wanted to experience one stop by train). However, to avoid the heat and crowds, we took a taxi again to Tsukiji Market. Including a restroom break, we moved along smoothly.

From Tsukiji we took a taxi to the Hirakawamon gate of the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, entering earlier than planned. I guided them around the large lawn where the former castle keep foundation stands. As we headed toward the Ninomaru Garden, the sound of gagaku court music drifted from the Music Department building, and we paused to listen for a while. The garden offered scenery with azaleas in full bloom and colorful koi.

Since the guests had eaten a hearty breakfast, we skipped lunch and headed to Asakusa. In the taxi, one of the guests, who prefers natural foods, mentioned wanting dried ginger to ease some stomach discomfort. It was of course not available at convenience stores, so at the medicine section on the 4th floor of the Don Quijote in Asakusa I inquired with a staff member. After some back-and-forth (using the guest's smartphone app to convey detailed symptoms and product names), I explained that it is not sold at general pharmacies in Japan. The guest understood, purchased dried mango instead, and the symptoms settled.

We viewed the main hall of Sensoji Temple from outside, then walked around the Yogodo area → Hanayashiki-dori → Nishi-Sando shopping street → Hoppy Street → Denboin-dori → Shin-Nakamise shopping street → the back streets of Nakamise → and finally to the Kaminarimon gate. It was just about time to finish, so I guided them to the taxi stand and we parted with smiles.
