What Is a Private Tokyo Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They mentioned they run a dairy farm and live in a very small village. We visited the places they had originally requested. At the station, I explained that they did not need to display the Suica screen on their phone each time, because the ticket gate recognizes Suica even through a closed case, but one of the guests kept opening it every time and always checked the amount, possibly because a credit card was also stored inside. Perhaps a cautious person, while another in the group passed through easily. They also did not seem particularly interested in the cherry blossoms; even when seeing the trees in full bloom, they did not take photos or show much reaction, so it was somewhat hard to tell whether they were enjoying themselves. At Tsukiji they did not eat anything, so when I mentioned that Japanese strawberries are truly delicious, they said, "Then let's buy strawberries," and purchased a pack of Tochiotome. While buying Welcome Suica cards at the JR Cafe in Tokyo Station, they enjoyed the strawberries at the table. "These are delicious," was the reaction, especially well received by the younger members of the group. At the East Gardens, one of the guests said they liked gardens and took many photos there, though elsewhere it was only occasional photography. Afterward, arriving in Shinjuku from Meiji Shrine, we waited about five minutes until 17:30 when the 3D cat appears and filmed a video. I thought they might be interested in the Godzilla Head, but they were not familiar with Godzilla itself, so the reaction was muted. When we stopped by Omoide Yokocho, many tourists were dining and the shops were full, and here they showed interest, saying, "Maybe we'll have dinner here tonight." After that, since the bus meeting point for going to Lake Kawaguchiko to see Mount Fuji is the Love object, I guided them there, and then we headed to the final stop at the Metropolitan Government Building, where we parted ways. Although the wait was 40 minutes, they said it was "no problem at all" and lined up. It was an unfortunate day with rain coming and going, but they did not use umbrellas, saying "no problem because we have rain wear," and one of the guests in particular said they "like the atmosphere of rain," so they did not mind at all. At the end, they thanked me with smiles, and said "Here, this is for you," giving me a Swedish coin, so I would like to consider today's guiding a success as well.
