Title: What's a Private Tokyo Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a family visiting Japan from Europe. One of them had visited Japan before during their student days, but for the others it was their first trip. In addition to Tokyo, they planned to visit Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Hiroshima. For Tokyo sightseeing, they had also reserved Shibuya Sky and teamLab. For the first part of their stay in Tokyo they were staying at a traditional hotel, but after returning from the regional areas they were scheduled to stay at a very differently themed hotel. Everyone in the group was quite tall, and since I am short, I found myself looking up to speak with them. One of the guests, who plays volleyball, was well over 190 cm. It seemed one of the guests found this "tall and short combination" amusing, and actively took photos of the two of us as we talked. One of the guests, studying engineering, mentioned that their exchange program options included a Japanese university, which happened to be my alma mater. Because of this connection, there were many questions during the tour about that university and Japan's education system. I answered as much as I could, and when we parted ways, I told them, "Please come back to Japan to study someday."

For lunch, at the strong request of one of the guests, we decided to have sushi. Since it happened to be lunchtime around Shibuya, we first went to Tsukiji Tama Sushi inside FUKURAS. However, it happened to be during the all-you-can-eat service time, and we were told there was a two-hour wait, so we gave up. Next, we moved to Shoei inside Shibuya Scramble Square. Here we were able to be seated right away, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the nigiri sushi. At Tokyo Station, I helped at the JR Central Shinkansen ticket counter. The Shinkansen tickets had been purchased online, but one of the guests had forgotten the password needed to display the QR code, and we struggled greatly trying to reset it, spending nearly an hour there. With the help of one of the tech-savvy guests and the station staff, it was finally resolved. Worried about the same problem occurring when actually boarding the next day, the guests changed to paper tickets and seemed relieved. The scheduled tour end time had already passed at that point, but after discussing it between the guests and myself as the guide, we decided to take a quick look at Takanawa Gateway Station and its surroundings before heading to the hotel. At Takanawa Gateway Station, we rode a mobile robot and enjoyed the night view from the upper floors of a high-rise commercial facility. Although brief, we thoroughly enjoyed the futuristic facilities, making it a very lively final stage. It was well worth pushing on a little to visit. We took the Yamanote Line back to Yurakucho Station and parted ways on the platform for boarding the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line toward Edogawabashi Station.
