Tour Itinerary
- 8:30 Wait in the hotel lobby
- 8:40 Meet the guests. Since I had not been able to contact the guests up to this point, I confirmed basic information. It turned out that their agent had not conveyed any of my messages. The itinerary the agent had arranged on their own included the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, which is closed on Fridays, but they said they would leave the destinations up to the guide, so we first headed to Shimbashi Station to get a SUICA. This was their third time in Japan and they said they were confident in walking since they had done the Kumano Kodo before, so I set an itinerary centered on walking.
- 9:15 Hamarikyu. After a stroll, walked to Tsukiji
- 10:10 Tsukiji Outer Market
- 10:35 Namiyoke Shrine
- 10:45 While resting on the rooftop of the outer market, I asked about their future schedule. Tomorrow they would go to Nikko from Tobu Asakusa Station, the day after to Hakone, and so on. So on the way to Asakusa after this, we would confirm the location of Tobu Asakusa Station, and also exchange and activate the JR Pass at Tokyo Station or somewhere, and return each of the vouchers to the hotel.
- 11:45 Hotel lobby. It turned out that neither the JAL, nor Hakone, nor even next week's Kyoto accommodation vouchers were included. I had the hotel WiFi used to contact their agent, but since the pre-purchased SIM was not working, it would be a problem if trouble occurred somewhere without WiFi, and so on. I ended up spending the rest of today helping to resolve the problems for tomorrow onward.
- 12:05 Shimbashi Station
- 12:00 Tokyo Station. After showing them the location of the Shinkansen ticket gate, when we tried to exchange the JR Pass at the JR Cafe, it newly turned out that there were 15 days from the day they leave Tokyo to the day they return, so it could not cover the entire itinerary, and so on. Helped arrange tickets to Takayama for the day after tomorrow.
- 13:20 Purchased and set up a new SIM at Yamada Denki
- 13:45 Lunch at Gransta Tokyo
- 14:45 After taking a commemorative photo at the SK Plaza of Shimbashi Station, we parted ways at the hotel.

At Hamarikyu Gardens, the guests were very intrigued by the explanation of the duck hunting grounds. Since it was still a bit early for lunch at Tsukiji, they said they would come back another time, and at that point they were relaxed, planning to see an exhibition at the Kabukiza Theater afterward and then visit the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, which they had missed on their previous visit to Japan.
However, as I asked about their upcoming schedule, it gradually became clear that the itinerary arranged by the travel agency was poorly put together—for example, a day trip to Nikko and sightseeing in Hakone followed by an overnight stay in Takayama, all without any explanation, and with no vouchers attached. In the end, the guests were even more grateful for the time I spent helping to resolve these problems.

If you are interested in hidden gem, here are some examples;
Kawasaki, located between Tokyo and Yokohama near Haneda Airport, is the second station of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido, the 400 years old highway towards Kyoto from Edo (old name of Tokyo). You can do Hand-cut glass experiment, stopping at a bar for sake tasting, visiting Kawasaki-Daishi temple that receives 3 million worshippers in the new year period.
Another spot is Echigo-Yuzawa in Niigata prefecture, 75 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen train. Echigo-Yuzawa is “Onsen” (hot springs) town. You can enjoy visiting Sake brewery, skiing in winter, veiwing Sakura (cherry blossom) in spring. Appreciation of contemporary art displays in open air and old carvings at temples, in neighboring towns will be also memorable experience.

Our private tour with Tatsuki was fabulous! He was friendly, knowledgeable and kind. Our visit to the Gotokuji Temple was our first time at a temple. Thanks to Tatsuki, we had a enriching and fun experience! He even researched the time to catch the cat train for our return. At our lunch together, Tatsuki generously answered all of our questions. As Tatsuki is also a sake sommelier, my husband enjoyed learning about and trying different sake! It was hot (97 degrees!). Tatsuki was so thoughtful about our wellbeing. He even had a cooling pouch and hydration packs for us when we needed it. This made our visit to the Imperial Palace gardens manageable. Tatsuki made our day so smooth. Thanks to him, we didn’t have to think about logistics and we saw more. We enjoyed his company and commentary.

Tatsuki Endo showed us around some Tokyo highlights as it was our first time here. He helped us navigate the public transport, answered all our endless questions, showed us cool land marks, showed us some insider look out points for minimum crowds but maximum views, introduced us to Sake and taught me how to use chopsticks! The Perfect Shore Excursion to Explore Tokyo
Four of us had a great Tokyo adventure with Tatsuki. He met us in the Yokohama cruise terminal on time and escorted us on a series of trains to Tokyo, including a diversion we requested to ride the Shinkansen bullet train. Having a knowledgable local guide made the experience much easier and trouble free than doing it on our own, and based on reports from shipmates it sounds like doing the tour this way on foot and by train was more enjoyable and memorable than experiencing Tokyo via car or bus tours. Tatsuki spoke perfect English and provided a wealth of information about the places we visited. Highly recommended!
