Tour Itinerary in Detail
This private tour of Tokyo began at 8:30, when the guide met the guests at @ Hotel, and finished at 14:40. The day ran to 6 hours and 10 minutes from start to finish. It included lunch @ Maisen at 12:00.
From there the group visited Asakusa at 9:00, Yanaka at 10:30 and Meiji Shrine & Harajuku at 13:00.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Roppongi to Asakusa by subway (280JPY); Asakusa to Ueno by subway (180JPY); Ueno to Nippori by train (150JPY); Sendagi to Omotesando by subway (210JPY); Meiji-jingumae to Roppongi by subway (290JPY). Across 5 sections the fare came to 1,110JPY per person.
The guests came from North America. They had mentioned that since their home region is very hot, they would be fine with the heat in Tokyo, but they were surprised by how humid it was. They did not do any shopping, but they looked at Nakamise Street with great interest. Since they expressed a wish to visit places that are off the usual tourist path, we took our time exploring Tendaiji Temple and Yanaka Cemetery in the Yanaka area. The day before, they had eaten wagyu beef, and they mentioned that they did not care for sushi, so I took them to a tonkatsu restaurant, but they did not eat very much. I think fatigue had begun to set in. After that, we went to Harajuku and Meiji Shrine, and then I saw them off at their hotel.

Tour of Tokyo- family with older teens
My family had an excellent tour around Tokyo with Rumi as two adults and two older teenagers. Rumi met us at our hotel and dropped us back there afterwards, which was really helpful as we were struggling with Shinjuku station. She was knowledgeable in the fish market and suggested food we might want to try from the best stalls. She showed us a great place for lunch where the kids enjoyed katsu curry. Rumi was very kind at the temple, showing us how to test our luck and providing offerings as well as walking us around the streets to buy souvenirs. She also helped with printing train tickets, checked up on us after an earthquake and sent through photos she had taken, none of which she had to do- she really went above and beyond expectations and made our first day in Japan a day to remember.
