What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Meiji Shrine, and Beating the Heat

The guests arrived from Europe on the morning of August. Since I had shared detailed advice on coping with the heat well in advance, the guests came prepared with UV-blocking parasols, which was a great help. They had also brought cooling towels, and since the temperature in central Tokyo reached nearly 39 degrees today with a stifling, exhausting heat outside, these items proved very useful. I also came prepared for the heat with my own UV-blocking parasol, towel, and fan (laughs).

For the sushi restaurant at Tsukiji Outer Market, since the guests preferred an economical option, I chose a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. This restaurant is different from ordinary conveyor-belt sushi places — the ingredients are extremely fresh and delicious, and it is also inexpensive, so the guests were delighted in the end. They ate their fill of sushi and enjoyed beer and wine, all for 9,000 yen, and were amazed at how affordable it was. I was glad I took them there.

At Meiji Shrine, I received many questions about the process of Japan's modernization, so while walking I explained in considerable detail the process of Japan's modernization and the role played by Emperor Meiji. The guests plan to visit Kyoto and then Osaka, returning home from the Kansai region. They were a lovely group to be with, and it left me feeling warm and happy as well.
