Tour Itinerary in Detail
The tour started at 9:00 at lyf Hotel and ended at 15:30. The day ran to 6 hours and 30 minutes from start to finish. It included lunch at the food court inside Meiji Shrine → Iris Garden in the Inner Garden → Meiji Shrine visit at 13:30.
Over the course of the day the route took in Tsukiji Market, Tsukiji Uogashi at 9:30, Fukagawa Edo Museum at 10:30, Kiyosumi Garden at 11:30 and Stop by Cocokara Fine near Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station at 12:30.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Kyobashi to Tsukiji by subway (180JPY); Tsukiji Market to Kiyosumi-Shirakawa by subway (220JPY); Kiyosumi-Shirakawa to Meiji-Jingumae by subway (210JPY). Across 3 sections the fare came to 610JPY per person.

The guests were a group visiting from North America. Because the itinerary needed to prioritize the comfort of the group, I planned the tour with that as the top priority.
We first headed to Tsukiji Market. The guests enjoyed one thing after another — tuna sushi, fried corn, oysters, and salmon — so I was glad I had brought them there. They said they would like to come again the next day.
Our next stop was the Fukagawa Edo Museum, chosen partly for the exhibits but also because it offered facilities for changing and feeding. There was a clean nursing room available, and the group was able to rest comfortably in a cool indoor space. Inside the museum, a senior volunteer explained the details of the exhibits in fluent English, which I truly appreciated.
At Kiyosumi Garden, the group strolled slowly around the pond and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Since the garden has many stones, the stroller was left at the entrance and the exhibits were viewed while carrying the child.
At Meiji Shrine, we also stopped by the Gyoen iris garden. The irises were in full bloom at this time of year, and the guests took many photographs. As I am a member of the Meiji Shrine reverence association, up to three people can enter free of charge, and it was nice to be able to make use of this benefit. For the meal, the group had curry and tendon at the food court in Forest Terrace, and it was good that the group could take a break in a cool place. At the main hall, it was memorable to see the guests worship slowly following the Shinto style of prayer.
This time there were many tasks — using elevators at stations, finding a drugstore, securing a place for diaper changes, and coping with the extreme heat — but I was relieved that everything went smoothly and without incident.

We had such a lovely time with our guide, Yumi. We wanted to visit places that showed us
life for Tokyo residents plus some architecture heroes. The four hours disappeared so
quickly and Yumi had planned our tour so efficiently, no wasted time. Yumi is a star!

took us to the major attractions in Hakone efficiently and helped us avoid long lines. We

Yumi is an outstanding guide. She greatly assisted in guiding us in our choices of areas Tokyo to tour based on our likes. Yumi gave us a wealth of information on Japanese history and culture specific to the areas we toured. She met us in the lobby of our Tokyo hotel and guided us with travel using the Tokyo train and subway. We choose to see the Rikugien garden, the Asakusa area of Tokyo and the Sensoji Temple. The Japanese Tea ceremony was beautiful, calming and informative. Yumi helped us arrange to add wearing Kimonos for this experience. She graciously took our photos throughout this tour. She is such a lovely lady. We highly recommend this tour and have high praises for Yumi.
