Title: What's a Private Full-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Roppongi, Nezu, and Asakusa

I guided guests visiting from North America on a private full-day tour of Tokyo. In advance the guests had requested a visit to Nezu. Considering the location of their Hotel and other factors, I decided to skip Meiji Shrine and instead re-proposed Akasaka and Roppongi at the meeting point, which the guests agreed to, and we started the tour. During their ten-day stay in Japan, their plan was Tokyo to Osaka to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. The night before, they had enjoyed an omakase course at a high-end sushi restaurant in Nishiazabu. They also had plans to visit a steak restaurant in Ryogoku, showing a strong interest in food.

We began by trying tamagoyaki at Yamacho in Tsukiji. After strolling through the crowded market, we headed to Akasaka and Roppongi. As the temperature rose, I encouraged the guests to stay hydrated, and we walked in the shade of buildings and trees while I introduced various spots. While showing the former Nogi Residence and Nogi Shrine — where a guest remarked, "Unlike Meiji Shrine, there are few people here and the quiet, serene atmosphere is impressive" — as well as the building of an art museum, the topic of Frank Lloyd Wright also came up. After buying water at a supermarket in Tokyo Midtown, we headed to Nezu. From Nezu Station we walked through narrow alleys lined with eateries and shops toward Hebi-michi. Passing through a residential area and going up Misakizaka, we took an air-conditioning and shaved-ice break at Marguerite Cafe.

Because one of the guests seemed a little tired in this unusual heat, instead of walking to Ueno Park as originally planned, I asked, "How about passing through the cemetery, taking the JR line to Asakusa — though this would extend the tour by about 30 minutes beyond the end time?" and the guests agreed. I also suggested we could visit a knife shop on Kappabashi Street (mentioned during the Tsukiji portion) and eateries in Asakusa, which they also agreed to (at this point it was 13:00). While guiding around Kappabashi, the heat seemed to take its toll, and a guest requested, "Please skip the temple and take us to eateries." I asked, "It's about a ten-minute walk, but is your condition okay?" and the guests agreed. I introduced several eateries and we arrived at an udon restaurant. After confirming with the staff that they served cold noodle dishes and accepted credit card payment, we parted ways with smiles.
