What Is a Private Tokyo Day Tour Like for First-Time Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were first-time visitors to Japan from Africa. They mentioned that they travel every year around a birthday, and the day before the tour (their arrival day in Japan) had been that birthday. In fact, just before meeting at the Hotel, I received a message via a messaging app from one of the guests asking whether the tour could be changed to another day because one of the group was not feeling well. Since I, the [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide, had already arrived in the lobby, I spoke with them directly. During the long flight the air conditioning had been a little cold, affecting their throat and nose. It was not serious enough to see a doctor, but they wanted to buy some over-the-counter medicine at a pharmacy. I explained that a same-day cancellation would involve a charge, and the guests decided to take some medicine and join the tour while seeing how they felt. So, at the start of the tour, we explained the symptoms to a pharmacist at a nearby pharmacy, received advice, purchased a general cold medicine, and they took it on the spot. As a result, there were no particular problems, and by the time the tour ended they said they felt better than in the morning. On Takeshita Street in Harajuku, they ate long fried potatoes and strawberry candy, took photos, and enjoyed it so much that they planned to include it again in their Tokyo sightseeing plans over the coming days. They also loved the robot café in Shibuya (Pepper Parlor) and said they wanted to make a reservation and return. They were very excited by the fun, lively atmosphere of these places. At the same time, they took many commemorative photos at Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Station, and thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing.
