<title>What Can You See on a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour? A Licensed Guide's Report</title>

I guided a guest who had arrived in Japan from North America the day before. This was their second visit to Japan, following a previous trip two years ago. Since meetings were scheduled to continue starting the next day, today was the only day to freely enjoy Tokyo. When we met in the lobby, I was pleased to hear them say, "I'll leave today's itinerary entirely up to Bruce," and I guided them mainly along the course I had proposed in advance.

At lunchtime, the guest expressed a wish to purchase a square plate of the kind used for serving assorted sushi, so I asked the sushi restaurant to recommend a specialty tableware shop, which we visited after the meal. The shop was filled with many appealing pieces of tableware, and although it was quite a difficult choice, they finally found a favorite plate and appeared very satisfied.

Along the way, we had lively conversations about work and culture. We discussed differences in attitudes toward work seen between Japanese and overseas companies, communication styles in meetings, and how consensus is reached within an organization, and I was able to hear many interesting stories. We talked about how each side's cultural background influences the way work is carried out, making it a meaningful day that deepened understanding not only of sightseeing in Tokyo but also of business culture.
