What's a Private Tokyo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Takeshita Street, and Omoide Yokocho

The guests were visitors from North America, visiting Japan for the first time. They mentioned that after sightseeing in Tokyo, they planned to visit Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. At Meiji Shrine, they listened with great interest to explanations about the differences between shrines and temples, and they seemed impressed by the quiet and solemn atmosphere, which was very different from Shibuya. On Takeshita Street, they showed great interest in the many shops and animal cafes, and said they would like to return another day to do some shopping. At Omoide Yokocho, they were interested in the many restaurants and eateries. After the tour, they had a reservation for a sumo show in Shinjuku, so I guided them to the entrance and we parted ways. Since I responded according to the guests' wishes, I believe they were satisfied. A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine. Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Shibuya, Tokyo, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Completed in 1920, the shrine is surrounded by a vast forest of around 100,000 trees donated from across Japan, creating a peaceful green sanctuary in the heart of the city. Visitors often enjoy strolling through the grand torii gates and the tranquil forested approach, which offers a striking contrast to the busy streets of nearby Shibuya and Harajuku.

I am Seizo Kamiuto, National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter (English). I was born in Kagoshima City in Kyushu (Southern part of Japan) and grew up there until the graduation from a high school. I came to Tokyo to enter a University in Tokyo and since then, I have lived in Tokyo for more than 40 years and therefore I know Tokyo and its suburbs and Kagoshima City very well. After retiring from an IT company, I have been working as a Guide Interpreter of English since March 2018. I have guided many overseas guests to the popular sightseeing spots in Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji area (Kawaguchiko Lake etc.), Hakone, Nikko, Yokohama, Kawagoe and Kagoshima and so on. I have received good reviews from many guests. I can explain the history and the culture of Japan in detail. I look forward to an opportunity to guide you in Japan. Thank you. Seizo Kamiuto
