What Is a Private Walking Tour of Takayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests had expressed interest in visiting Hida no Sato, but after discussion, we decided to focus mainly on the town center. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led this private walking tour of Takayama. We began with the morning market, which finishes before noon, and since the guests had an interest in architecture, they strolled leisurely through the merchant houses and the temples and shrines of the Higashiyama area. Afterward, they enjoyed a meal at a locally well-regarded soba and udon restaurant, and because they seemed interested in samurai culture, we finished at Takayama Jinya, where I explained the facility along with how people lived during the Edo period.

During the tour, our conversation also expanded to topics such as recent bear sightings within the city and aspects of contemporary Japanese life, including minimum wage and housing prices. When the topic turned to religion, it became an enjoyable opportunity to learn about pre-Christian religions in Britain as well.

I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter(English).
I have lived in Takayama city more than 30 years and worked for the city office, mainly at sectioin of cultural preservation and at local museums. I would like to take you to popular spots such as Takayama Jinya, a national historic landmark, and old town atmosphere, morning markets, and The Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall in the city.
