Solo Private Osaka Tour Report: Osaka Castle, Dotonbori & Kuromon Market with a Licensed Guide

Today's guest was a person visiting Japan for sightseeing from North America. During the pre-tour planning, the guest had very clear objectives: (1) no shopping, (2) as this was their first visit to Japan, they wanted a tour focused on Japanese culture and history, and (3) they wanted Osaka Castle, Osaka Castle Park, and Dotonbori included in the course. In the end, the itinerary was finalized as "Osaka Castle and its main keep ⇒ Osaka Castle Park ⇒ Dotonbori ⇒ Kuromon Market."

The weather forecast beforehand raised concerns about rain, but on the day it stayed cloudy without any rain, making for fairly good conditions. Although the guest had only arrived in Japan the previous day, they were extremely energetic and walked quickly, and since we used the subway for transportation, moving between the sites went smoothly. At Osaka Castle and the main keep, I explained the end of the Sengoku period and the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate, and at Osaka Castle Park the guest enjoyed a stroll among the refreshing fresh greenery. At Dotonbori and Kuromon Market, they deepened their understanding and experience of "the daily life and culture of ordinary people," which has a different flavor from Tokyo and Kyoto.

Thanks to the guest's curiosity and the one-guest-to-one-guide arrangement, there was never a shortage of topics to discuss, not only during the sightseeing but also on the subway between destinations, making for a fulfilling tour.

Hi, everyone! I’m Norifumi Kamon, a government registered guide interpreter. Please call me “Nori”, or “Kamon-san”.
Let me introdece myself. I was born on April 17th in 1952 in Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu island. I used to be an English teacher of Osaka Prefectural high school. When I retired from a teacher ten years ago, I decided to get a professional guide license. I wanted to play a role of the bridge between Japanese people and the people from all over the world as a second life of mine. After two years efforts, I finally got the guide license. Since then, I have guided several handreds of foreign people mainly in Kyoto and Nara for about five years except Corona Pandemic period. Almost all the tourists were deeply impressed by the beauty of nature, traditoin, culture, and art of Japan. I can surely help you enjoy and be satisfied with the sightseeing in Japan. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.
