The guests were visitors from North America. During the day, the group chatted happily and were deeply engaged throughout, listening attentively to the explanations at each site and asking a wide variety of questions. At Osaka Castle, they took their time viewing the main keep and the Toyotomi Stone Wall exhibition hall. They also enjoyed hunting for treasures at the used book market at Shitennoji Temple and at the antique stalls around Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, so our schedule ran a little behind. After a quick visit through Dotonbori, they returned to their cruise ship.
A notable stop on the tour was Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. Sumiyoshi Taisha is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan and is the head shrine of the many Sumiyoshi shrines across the country. It is famous for its distinctive Sumiyoshi-zukuri architectural style, which predates the influence of continental Buddhist architecture, and for its striking arched bridge known as the Sorihashi. The shrine is dedicated to deities associated with the sea and safe voyages, and it remains a popular place for visitors seeking blessings and a glimpse of traditional Japanese architecture.

Sachiko was our tour guide and she is one of the best we have had. Not only did she show us Osaka in the rain, she went above and stayed with us 45 minutes past the tour time to make sure she brought us back to our hotel and taught us the trains to take and the restaurants around. We highly appreciate her.

I enjoyed seeing Osaka through Sachiko’s eyes and experience. She showed me what was special about Osaka, answered my numerous questions about life in this city and in Japan. Sachiko or Choko Ogura is a fantastic guide who not only explained the importance but also the backgrounds and histories in details of the locations we visited.
She is extremely proficient in English but is lovely lady with very helpful and pleasant nature. She guided us about what to do and what not to do.
