What Is a Private Nikko Day Tour from Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

At the guests' request, we had lunch at a French restaurant by the lake, which took about an hour and forty minutes. Combined with the late tour start time of 11:00, we finished sightseeing at Toshogu Shrine without being able to visit the inner shrine (Okumiya). Since one of the guests had undergone knee surgery about half a year earlier and could not overexert themselves, we agreed to skip the long staircase leading to the inner shrine. As a result, we were able to talk in detail about the other highlights of Toshogu Shrine, and the guests seemed to enjoy taking photographs as a hobby. In particular, at the Honjido Hall, famous for its "crying dragon," the guests appeared to enjoy the bell-like echoing sound with pleasant smiles, perhaps because it was easy to understand.

Although it was at the guests' request (I suppose heading to Tochigi early in the morning from Tokyo felt like too much of an effort), starting after 11:00 and then extending the trip all the way to Oku-Nikko makes the itinerary quite tight. Today as well, we entered Toshogu Shrine just before closing, and we were the second-to-last group to view Honjido Hall. Going forward, I would like to use this experience to take a more proposal-oriented approach with guests.

I am more than happy to take you to attractive tourism resources scattered in Nikko. I will prepare for your trip enough to satisfy your requests and provide you with the memorable tour. When I was a company employee, I lived abroad for 5 years in Los Angeles, 11 and a half years in Washington D.C. and 2 and half years in Brussels. Despite 19 year long stay abroad, I remain charmed by Japanese things, such as culture, custom, spirit, martial art etc. I am glad if I can be of help you understand Japan as well as Nikko through my guide. I am interested in Japanese martial arts: I own the third grade in Japanese archery, known as Kyudo and I have passed a certification examination (1st grade) for Sumo wrestling conducted by the Japanese Sumo Promoting Association.
