What Is a Private Day Trip from Kyoto to Nara Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were interested in Japanese otaku culture as well as temples and shrines. On the train between Kyoto and Nara, I asked them about what they had seen and enjoyed in Tokyo, what they were expecting in Nara, and what kinds of food they wanted to try. When I mentioned kakinoha-zushi (persimmon leaf sushi), they said they would love to try it, so I took them to my top recommendation, Hiraso. Unfortunately, the chef who prepares the rolled dishes was not available, so we could not order the menu item they wanted, but the head chef specially arranged an assortment of kakinoha-zushi beautifully on a large platter for us. It looked lovely, and the guests said it was delicious and finished it in no time. When I asked for their impressions at the end of the tour, they happily told me that the kakinoha-zushi and the bustling traditional townhouse in Naramachi were especially wonderful. They also thanked me for a meaningful day.

Hi! My name is YUKA. I’ve got the government license in 2018 and joined a half year traning to do the guide. But a half year later I started my carreer, Covid came. I should have given up guiding. During the Covid, I’ve read many books and made my own materials to explain Japanese culture, history, etc. I love guiding because the guests expand my horizon all the time and let me know their own country and culture, etc. It is really important for us all to know each other and respect each other to make this world peace. Thank you for coming to Japan! Let’s enjoy Japan together!
