Title: What Can You See on a Private Day Tour of Nara from Kyoto? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests had toured Kyoto with a guide the previous day. [Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide explained the differences between the temples of Kyoto and Nara: Kyoto's temples belong to many diverse Buddhist sects and feature elaborate architecture and gardens due to the deep involvement of aristocrats and the shogunate, while Nara's temples are larger in scale and strongly reflect the idea of Buddhism as protection for the nation. After visiting Kasuga Taisha Shrine and Todaiji Temple, the guests strolled through Naramachi, and were particularly interested in the Koshin "substitute monkey" charms. Afterward, at their request, they visited Nakatanidou to see its famous high-speed mochi pounding. Since it was set to begin ten minutes later, we waited and watched the powerful mochi-pounding performance. The tour concluded after seeing the guests off as they boarded a limited express train bound for Kyoto at Kintetsu Nara Station.

I’m Yuri Takeda, a goverment lisenced English tour guide. I’ve been working as a tour guide for about two years. I was born and raised in Osaka. I’ve been in Nara for about 40 years. I can guide you Kyoto, Osaka and Nara. I like visiting historical sites, eating and cooking. I also like meeting people from different backgrounds. In Japanese, we have a wonderful phrase “Ichigo Ichie”. It means we have to treasure every encounter is a once in a lifetime opportunity. This word came from the spirit of tea ceremony. I’d like to help you discover, enjoy, experience and feel Japanese culture with the heart of Japanese hospitarity, “omotenashi”.

Our guide Yuri was the heartbeat of this experience. Gentle, generous, and bursting with knowledge, she didn’t just show us the sights—she made them come alive. We wandered through the mystical gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine, sampled tasty chaos at Nishiki Market, and stepped into history at the imposing Nijo Castle.
We got around by train and bus, and Yuri made everything seamless—translating signage, answering questions, and rescuing us from transit confusion like a local superhero. Our crew started strong at six, but the Kyoto sun had other plans. As family members tapped out (infant included!), Yuri coordinated taxis and made sure everyone was looked after with grace and care.
Despite the heat and shifting group size, my experience only grew richer. If you’re a history lover or just craving something deeper than a selfie, this tour is an absolute must. Thank you, Yuri—you turned Kyoto into a story I’ll never forget.
Quick Tips for Fellow Travelers:
🎟️ Grab a Suica card ahead of time—you’ll glide through train stations like a local.
💵 Bring yen in cash—not everywhere swipes plastic.
🥤 Hydrate and snack smart—touring in summer is a marathon, not a sprint.

We loved having Yuri as our guide. She took us to many beautiful and fun spots to see, including beautiful temples, shrines, the monkey park, and also guided us to a few places we wanted to visit after our tour concluded. We loved her kindness and made quick friends with Yuri.
