Title: What Is the Nakasendo Hiking Trail to Magome Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report

Under the blazing summer sun, we climbed the uphill road to Magome while staying hydrated with frequent water breaks and resting often. The guests had come specifically to enjoy hiking, so even while working up a sweat, they enjoyed the climb. Along the way, I shared the story of the tengu (the origin of the tengu traces back to ancient Chinese lore, where shooting stars and meteors were likened to "heavenly dogs"; later, after being introduced to Japan and influenced by Buddhism and Shugendo, it evolved into a mountain spirit and eventually a deified being) along with other historical explanations, and we completed the full-day walking tour. As I myself felt on the verge of summer fatigue, I think I will try to avoid taking on summer hiking tours going forward.
