What Is a Nagasaki Cruise Port Private Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The tour started later than scheduled, at 9:30 a.m. First, we walked about five minutes from the Matsugae Cruise Terminal to the Tokiwa South parking lot, where we boarded the bus that had been arranged and headed to the Atomic Bomb Museum.
Because it was an extremely hot day (37.8°C, the highest ever recorded for Nagasaki City), we normally walk about ten minutes from the Atomic Bomb Museum to Peace Park, passing the hypocenter and other spots, but after consulting with the guests, we moved by bus from the Atomic Bomb Museum parking lot to the Peace Park parking lot (stopping the bus at a point where the hypocenter monument was visible so I could explain it). After that, we went to Peace Park, where I explained the Peace Statue and set up photos, and then headed to Sanno Shrine.
At Sanno Shrine, in addition to explaining the one-legged torii gate and the atomic-bombed camphor trees, I also explained the manners for visiting a shrine.
Afterward, we went to Wakatakemaru Nagasaki Main Branch, where the guests enjoyed sushi. Of course they savored the delicious sushi, but they also watched with great interest as the ordered sushi was carried along on the conveyor lane.
After lunch, we toured Dejima quickly for about 30 minutes (only the Archaeological Museum and the Kapitan's Room), then went to Amu Plaza adjacent to Nagasaki Station for about 50 minutes of shopping, after which we moved by bus to near the Matsugae International Cruise Terminal, ending the tour.
This time the guests visited only the atomic-bomb-related sites and Dejima, but the atomic-bombed camphor trees left a strong impression, and they also enjoyed delicious sushi. I believe they returned to the ship feeling pleased.

Hello, my name is Junichi Matsumoto.
I will be your guide on this occasion. With warm hospitality, I will do my best to help you fully enjoy and appreciate the charm of Japan.
Before becoming a guide, I worked for the Kumamoto Prefectural Government and retired in March 2023. From 2003 to 2005, I was stationed in Montana, USA, which has a sister-state relationship with Kumamoto. During that time, I actively interacted with the local community together with my family, which gave me valuable cross-cultural experiences.
I am an easygoing person who quickly builds a friendly relationship with international guests. With a sincere smile and attentive care, I always strive to provide tours that are warm, enjoyable, and memorable. It would be my great pleasure to help you make unforgettable memories during your stay in Japan.

Amazing tour by an amazing guide
Junichi, our guide, was simply amazing. He traveled for two days to be with us. Using public transportation (which was very cheap), he got us to see the Atomic Museum, the Peace Park, the Grover Gardens, and even got us a reservation for lunch in a Chinatown restaurant (We were ten people). I thoroughly recommend him.

Nagaski day tour
Junichi was a great tour guide. He met us at the cruise port and customized the tour for our family interests. We started the day at Glover gardens and got to learn how Japanese industry evolved. We experienced local lunch in Chinatown and ended the day at the Atomic bomb museum and peace park….
