What Is a 6-Hour Private Nagasaki Cruise Port Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests, with whom I was able to stay in contact via a messaging app, contacted me at 7:30 in the morning to say they had come out of the cruise terminal building. I let them know to wait in the larger building where the shops, currency exchange machines, and restrooms are located, and I arrived shortly after 8:00 and was able to meet them without any trouble.

Inside the terminal, while looking at a map together, I explained the general itinerary I had in mind and received their agreement (in practice, additions and changes were made based on the guests' wishes), and the tour began.

Since the weather was not great, we first headed to Glover Garden to make the most of the better conditions. We entered from the upper entrance, which is physically easier since the route only goes downhill. The guests did a little shopping at the shop near the end and also stopped by the crepe shop just past the exit.

After explaining the episode of the discovery of the hidden Christians in front of Oura Church, we boarded the car that had been waiting and, again while the weather was still tolerable, headed to Nabekanmuriyama above Glover Garden. Even though it was not clear weather, the guests were delighted with the view.

Next we went to the Atomic Bomb Museum. I explained that they should take a good look at "The Boy Standing by the Crematorium" displayed at the end of the exhibition, and the guests viewed the exhibits on their own.

They came out of the Atomic Bomb Museum looking deeply moved. From there we walked to the hypocenter and then to Peace Park, after which we boarded the car that had been waiting beside Peace Park and went to the shop for kakuni-manju (braised pork buns) in Chinatown that the guests had requested (Iwasaki Honpo). In fact, this was my first time eating it as well, and it was very delicious.

After that we went to the Gunkanjima Digital Museum. Gunkanjima is a very unique World Heritage island where people lived for only about 90 years for coal mining and which is now in ruins. The guests looked at the exhibits with great interest.

Finally, I guided them around Dejima for about 30 minutes (the miniature Dejima, the archaeology museum, and the Captain's Quarters), and since they wanted to do some shopping, we headed to Yume Town Yumesaito, which is very close to Dejima and also near Matsugae International Cruise Terminal (about 1,000 yen by taxi). We arrived at exactly 2:30 in the afternoon, so with the guests' agreement, we decided to end the tour there.

The guests said they would take a taxi back to Matsugae International Cruise Terminal on their own from there. Since it was necessary for them to split into two cars, I informed them of the location of the taxi stand and handed them two pieces of paper reading "Matsugae International Cruise Terminal," explaining that they should show these to the taxi drivers, and the tour concluded.

In six hours we were able to visit many places and enjoy delicious food, so I believe the guests must have been satisfied.
