What Is a Private Nagasaki Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meganebashi, Glover Garden, and Local Shopping Streets

The guests enjoyed the tour. They were especially delighted that the Meganebashi (Spectacles Bridge) really does look like a pair of glasses. Rather than simply visiting the sights, they also enjoyed interacting with local people, chatting with junior high school students on a school trip at a train station along the way and greeting elementary school students on their way home from school. The guests also expressed a wish to see an ordinary local shopping street rather than a new shopping center, so on the way from Meganebashi to Glover Garden, I guided them through the Hamanomachi Shopping Arcade, a historic shopping street with origins dating back to the 16th century. (Although this added one more stop, the Hamanomachi Shopping Arcade was located on the route from Meganebashi to Glover Garden, so it had no significant impact on the overall itinerary.)
